My sources say that he's actually a portabella mushroom. Take from that what you will. I'm just passing it on.

I guess I do know a lot of outspoken drunks. Can't say I understand WHAT they are saying but they are usually pretty loud about it. :D

Then you should find a nice NAIA Christian school to support, because we wouldn't have made it anywhere close to where we are without football players who party. Sorry, it's just the way it is.
There ya go, that's the spirit!!

Just so we're clear, I wasn't making the case for how VT screwed over Boone. I was merely agreeing with Smooth's comments that college coaches have to be weary of how they are perceived by high coaches in the treatment of past recruits. And I did that by providing the perception of Coach Morgan in regards to Greg Boone and VT. Whether that perception was accurate or not, doesn't matter to me or to the situation, as it is still an issue that can hurt the recruiting process from high school to college.

No worries, It is more of my frustration with the Oscar coaching falling head over heels for London. The real issue is that there is a 7-on-7 movement happening in high school football. It is almost like the AAU and NIke/Adidas camps that have been around for basketball. Well the deal with these camps is that the 7-on-7 coaches act like secondary recruiters for the schools. I don't know what kind of promises that London made to these coaches, but it sure paid off for his first few years up at UVA. What you are slowly starting to see with departure of Rocco and Richardson is that London has been full of you know what and he is breaking up his relationships with high school coaches in favor of these 7-on-7 coaches. Oscar Smith is just now sending back kids to VT and that is b\c they are sick of how things are bing handled in UVA.

This is stupid. Don't take Sims because he got drunk and smoked at parties? Like anyone on our football team hasn't sinned. Are we not supposed to be a school that seeks to change hearts for the Lord? I thought that was our goal? We don't need more Christians on this football team. If Sims parties, I would rather he come play at Liberty rather than if he went to Richmond or ODU. Instead of constantly thinking about what's best for Liberty, start thinking what's best for the kid. If he parties, what better school for him than Liberty? We're one of a handful of schools who discourage that behavior. If a player isn't a Christian, coming to Liberty MIGHT be the only chance he has to hear to gospel. Simply because a kid sinned at a previous school, is no reason to deny him a chance to change here.

As far as football goes, I hope that Woodrum starts the season. Sims would without a doubt be one of the best players to wear a Liberty uniform. But Woodrum has worked hard for that starting job and had a very respectable Freshman season last year. I think you send a very negative message to the team if you let some transfer take over, when your current starter is solid. If Woodrum gets injured, and then Sims comes in and plays well, maybe you can give him the snaps.

All of that is very true. However as the qb and leader of the team id want him to be a great example for the rest of the guys.

If Sims is struggling with drinking, smoking, and/or partying, then LU might not be the best "fit" for him because of the Liberty Way policy. I do not believe that the current administration is going to relax on the current set-up, especially for its football players...

If I'm an athlete and I know that certain things I participate in will get me reported by some "informant", fined and possibly suspended, I would not want to put myself in that situation. To be honest with you all, this may be the reason why we lose local kids to Richmond, ODU, and JMU.

With all of that being said, does LU have a program for student athletes that struggle with addictions and other "non-Christ-like" behaviors that are against the Liberty Way? Have fines ever been erased if a player gets some sort of counseling?

Liberty has had players who partied their 4 years (got around the liberty way). they also had players leave because they couldn't stand the liberty way. Then they also had players who came in as partiers who got saved while being here.

So as a school who wants everyone the opportunity to have a christian education and believes people can change why would you not want him when there has been people like him "supposedly" in the past who came to liberty who has changed?

Sims adds competition to the QB spot. if he wins then it just shows Woodrum wasn't ready.

I trust coach Gills judgement. He knows the mission and the young men. He's also proven he will let you go, if you can't hack it on and off the field.

No, my point was not that there is some ratio that we should seek to achieve or some non-Christian to Christian player quota we need to meet. My only point is that we should keep from being the University that turns kids away because of issues outside of the classroom or football field. On the flip side, we ought to be seeking kids who have had issues at other schools. Bring those kids in here and we'll change them. I'm confident in our leadership to have an effect on any kid that puts on a Liberty uniform. That doesn't necessarily mean we'll change every kid that plays for us. Or even that we'll change a majority of kids. I just can't stand it when people choose to look at a player's past, and determine that they aren't good enough for Liberty. That isn't who we are, and I pray to God that isn't what becomes of our athletic teams.

Read doug doughtys blog from today. Just heard him on greg roberts show. Missing team meetings, skipping weight lifting, not being a leader, skipping class, terible grades and being an enabler. Basically said the 2 freshman were leading the team and sims was mia. Says a lot to me

All that is fine and dandy. Talent wise he is a no brainer and IMO, would be a starter. As for everything else its all 2nd hand info. I trust this staff a whole lot more then previous ones to make the right decision as to where/if he's a good fit at LU.

i do not see sour grapes at all. UVA wanted it to work with Sims or they would not have gone through that appeals process with the NCAA. like i said before, he has the talent, it is just will he step up. If so, he can be a beast. The players at UVA who cant cut it in class or are not good citizens are gone under London and he has removed several players because of that. As Haize said, I do trust Gill and his staff. as tight as he runs his program, i am sure Sims will know what is expected of him or he will not come here.

Really? Who knew? I thought the Athletic Department consulted this board before making any moves.
Thank you for the insight Captain Obvious
Everyone knows its only the Adults on this board the consult!
