According to our manson and our friends at Flames Nation, we just picked up another running back...there is a bit of a complication though...
Flames Nation wrote:According to sources, we have been able to confirm that "Richardson is confirmed (to Liberty), but he does have academic issues." No further word at the present time regarding his academic issues.

If he can get his academics squared away, he will definitely give us a shot in the arm in the backfield

Thanks for posting this thread and sources for this subject. I had come on to this Flame Fans Forum just a couple of minutes ago to find out exactly how we had known in rumor or sources of the news that Clifton Richardson was coming to LU?

This certainly would help answer some questions left about depth / experience etc from AA's departure at RB.

According to London, academics weren't an issue.
“Clifton Richardson has been granted permission to seek a release from his scholarship to pursue opportunities elsewhere,” London said in a school-issued statement. “Clifton will be leaving the University in good academic standing. I wish the best for Clifton as he pursues his academic and athletic goals.”

Seems like a nice replacement. This kid did put up 5.08 ypc as a frosh so he's likely going to play very well here if he can stay healthy.

Flames Head Football Coach Turner Gill has announced that former Virginia running back Clifton Richardson will transfer to Liberty. Richardson has two years of athletic eligibility remaining and will be able to compete during the 2013 season.
"We are thrilled to have Clifton in our football program because of his character and his football ability," commented Gill about his newest running back. "He has tremendous power, above average elusiveness and outstanding speed as a running back."

From Rooster's link:
The four-star rated prospect...
How many (if any) 4-star recruits has LU ever had on its football team? The article also stated that Richardson was the 20th ranked RB in in the country coming out of high school.

As I said in the OP, this could be a real shot in the arm for us. It gives Abnar a chance to really focus on his kick returns and gives Des Rice someone that he can push in practice and maybe help up his game after being #3 behind AA and SCH last year.

Here is what we look like with this addition:

Clifton Richardson- 6'0" 210 Lbs
Desmond Rice- 5'8" 195 Lbs
D.J. Abnar- 5'10" 185 Lbs
Kendall Couamin- 6'2" 225 Lbs
Austin Kaigler- 5'9" 200 Lbs

I can't find a listing for his star rating but Antwan Chiles was a HS All-American QB.

if richardson stays healthy, he can be just as good as rashad. im serious about that. his injuries forced him down the depth chart and the fact that the #1 all purpose back in the country is coming to charlottesville in the fall, had to factor in his decision. this has the potential to be a great pickup.

This guy will be great for you guys. As smooth says injuries hampered him this past season and I think we (UVA) just have too many running backs especially with 5 star Taquan Mizzell coming this season.

Richardson is a big back and has a ton of talent. If you need any proof check out the 3:15 mark of this video of his touchdown his Freshman year against GT. I don't know how a guy that big propels himself 5 yards and has that much balance.

Love Richardson, huge get with AA going down. I think Ryan Ayers was a 4 star coming out of high school. Asa ________ was a 3 star I believe.

GREAT article with both Richardson and Coach Gill interviewed:
“They have a very good program,” said Richardson on Tuesday. “They run the ball a lot. (Liberty) coach (Turner) Gill loves pounding the ball, so that was one of the reasons I chose Liberty. It’s a great coaching staff.

“It’s a very multiple offense, instead of being in the I (formation) 90 percent of the time. I can show my versatility.”

Richardson, a 6-foot-0, 210-pound running back who announced 2½ weeks ago he was transferring from U.Va., said he plans to enroll Monday in summer classes at Liberty. In addition to Liberty, he said he looked at Old Dominion, Richmond, North Dakota State and Wisconsin.

He said Marshall showed a lot of interest in him, but even though he has a redshirt year available, he decided he wasn’t interested in transferring to another Bowl Subdivision school and having to sit out a season under NCAA transfer rules.

When he spoke with Gill and Liberty’s coaches, and started to get flashbacks to what he used to do at Menchville, Richardson knew he’d found the right place.

“They basically want to use me the same way I was used in high school,” Richardson said. “I’ll get back to that – having a little fun out there.”

Norm Wood, the writer of the article obviously is not quite up to speed on the RB situation at LU.

¨Next season, Liberty is slated to have senior running back Aldreakis Allen (team-high 1,019 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 160 carries last season while starting just one of 10 games played) back in the fold, but Sirchauncey Holloway (162 carries for 747 yards and seven touchdowns) will be gone.¨

with the addition of Richardson, what does the depth chart look like now, because there seems to be a lot of rbs on roster now. This is what I see if im not mistaken

Richardson /Allen (his name is still on roster, never removed)
Rice
Abner
Kaigler
Macon
Smith

The way I see it, this will depend on the results of AA's adjudication. if he is convicted, it is likely he won't return at which point it will be Richardson with Rice, Kaigler and Couamin battling at number two, possibly Macon while Abnar serves as a change of pace/speedster. if he is able to return to the team, I think it will be AA and Richardson and the real fun comes with who will be the number three back

That is def gonna be a camp battle to watch for, that's for sure. Also, like someone said before the backup QB battle between Shashaty n Masha will be good

I agree with you guys regarding the RB situation if AA is allowed to return. It would definitely be a good problem to have... I have no "insider" info, but I really hope AA is able to come back and compete.

THe thing that is to be considered is you don't want AA being a distraction because you have to think that the guys are aware of what has gone on with his situation and how its been handled by Coach Gill and the staff
Are we back?
