The guys aren't the only ones swinging bats in the spring. You can follow the squad throughout the season and even get the latest on recruiting.

There will be no CheapSeats in the new softball stadium. There will be a lot of sell outs. Therefore, if Dr Dot is involved I will have to change my screen name. Maybe "FrontRow" ( unless something with more flare comes to mind ) 8)

Regardless of who new coach is, I think it will take 3 years to get program where it needs to be. gonna take 3 years of excellent recruiting classes, including getting a top flight pitcher, a couple of big bats, and couple good slap hitters with speed.. Granted it could be done in 2, but I think it'll take 3.

Putting together Sly´s cryptic revelation and the fact that she was on campus, I have to believe Dr. Richardson is our top candidate. If we can get her to come, I would say we can put to rest the red headed stepchild analogies.

You know that we have a history of going for "name hires" when we have made coaching changes (even Layer was a "name hire" in a sense back when he took over)

Over the years there have been too many rumors to mention, but I would say we have really only had 4 ¨name hires¨ in all sports combined. Al Worthington and Bobby Richardson in baseball, Sam Rutigliano in football and Bill Bell in soccer. As far as level of success and respect in their sport is concerned, Dot might top them all.

Dale Layer doesn´t make the list BJ. Closest we have come in basketball would be McKay.

I heard she was interviewed. I guess sometimes you interview consultants, but I think this was for a job.

I don´t see it. I would not call any of JBs hires a big name. I guess McKay and Gill might be called ¨poor man´s name hires¨.

He has made what I think could be considered "name" hires in all three of the "big 3" sports on campus: Football (Turner Gill, former Kansas and Buffalo HC), Basketball (Ritchie McKay, former New Mexico HC) and Baseball (Jim Toman, assistant from South Carolina). If Dr Richardson ends up becoming the HC for softball, that would probably be one of the biggest name hires for a sport under his watch outside of the "big 3"

Assistant coaches aren't name hires. McKay was decently well known, but probably not a name. Gill was the biggest of the bunch, but was coming in with a very negative recent history. None of those is remotely in the ballpark of someone like Sam Rutigliano, a former NFL Coach of the Year, when he was hired. Dot Richardson would be in the ballpark of a hire like Rutigliano.

The master plan calls for the softball field to be located where the current LCA softball field is (near baseball & tennis facilities). I noticed that there is new construction on the other side of the street, which appears to be a new softball field. I assume the new construction is where LCA will play, and that Liberty will be able to start construction soonish.

The clickable dots on the Master Plan say that construction on the new field is expected to be started by the end of the year. It seems like a pretty easy sell to prospective new coaches to be able to show them the football and baseball stadiums, the plans for the new softball stadium, and hopefully the construction under way.

Or the coach could see all the construction for football, and look at the facilities they now have and come to a different conclusion......
It's an easy sell sure, but that's why I asked the question.

I consider myself to be a fairly knowlegable sports geek, and I had never Heard of Toman and knew almost nothing about RMK before they came up on our watch list to hire. As far as his coaching career is concerned, Gill may be best known as the guy Charles Barkley said Auburn should have hired for all the wrong reasons.

Without question, the most famous coach we ever had was Bobby Richardson. Not even close here in the states, although Bill Bell was a legend in the British/European soccer world.

Not trying to argue, but Coach Sam was probably as well known as Bobby at the time of his hire.

What I think made Toman a "name hire" is the fact that he was on staff at one of the top baseball schools in the country at the time we hired him (South Carolina), which also happened to be the former employer of our current AD.
