If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

Just keep in mind that the fans that post on message boards and call into sports radio shows account for around 1% of all fans. I wouldn't stress so much about it, the Sun Belt will invite if they want, if not then maybe there's a better situation out there for us, who knows.

Well it sounds like Benson is desperate to have us. However he isn't able to get a majority of the Presidents to agree with him.

I have a feeling once they get a couple of more "no thanks" answers from other schools they will probably soften to LU. I hate how we are their absolute last case scenario but I guess whatever it takes at this point.

I know you already know what they think. You've stated it many times and I agree.

One of the insiders from Arkansas State shared this nugget on the Sun Belt message board this morning...
Benson really pushing for Liberty
Benson wants to add Liberty just so we will be at 12 in 2014. Good thing the presidents aren't listening. From what I've been told is Benson would add Liberty today if given the chance. He is really stuck on having 12 teams in 2014 and doesn't want to wait. Was told JMU said no and MSU said get back with us next year. I say wait for MSU and see how it plays out. Do we really need a championship game next year?
I truly believe Benson's interest in Liberty is more than just facilities and potential, but more due to the fact that we're here and we're ready. Benson knows that the death of the WAC was due to conference presidents not taking Lamar to get the WAC to 8 football schools. The saying was "We'll get them next time around." Well, there was no next time for the WAC because teams were leaving left and right. I think Benson want to make sure that doesn't happen to the Sun Belt under his watch.

Let's see how much pull Mr. Peanut has. :P

Very good thought process.

Liberty has what it takes to be a financially healthy FBS program and would probably make a long term commit to a conference. In the Sun Belt's case, that would create more stability.

Someone said that internet posters make up 1% of fans .... I hope so and I hope the 1% that post on the CSNbbs SB board are not a true representation of the conference. If we go FBS I want to be able to pull for Liberty first and then any conference mate playing out of conf. My google searches for news take me to a lot of forums and the CSNbbs SB is weak (led by 4 or 5 hecklers). Other conference forums are classier and quite a few people like Liberty and the ones that object are respectful to students and LU posters. I'm still optimistic!

Does God care about who wins or loses a game? Nope, not really. Does God care about how an evangelical Christian university's athletics program interacts with other schools, with an eye towards furthering the Kingdom of God? Yeah, He pretty much does.
In your world furthering=BCS. It may not be in His world
Actually, I never said that, and don't really believe it. In fact, I said that God may not be finished with us at the FCS level yet ;)

He's not the NMSU president just yet - he's a finalist - but I agree that would upset the apple cart.

What he says makes sense; it's tough to financially support a football team, which makes this whole kabuki dance with the Sun Belt Conference presidents so silly. Liberty is probably better positioned financially than most to field an FBS team, and Karl Benson knows it.

NMSU and Idaho both should be in the Big Sky, I can't for the life of me understand why schools that are blocking us in Louisiana would rather travel to Idaho than Virginia

IMHO at the moment. Idaho and NMSU >LU on the football field.
But I think it would be a smart move for NMSU to move down. Idaho football would be tough because they have a much stronger football tradition than does NMSU

LUconn wrote:why does that upset the apple cart? Or is it their apple cart. Seems good for us if they were going to be Sun Belt members.
Yes, it's their apple cart that would be overturned. It's easy for them to be dismissive of LU's overtures when they need only one member to get to 12, and they can hold out hope that JMU will be waiting for them after they complete their FBS feasibility study.

If they need to replace NMSU as well as WKU, it makes it that much harder for them to ignore us -- and it raises flags to impartial observers who will start to question why they won't pull the trigger. Maybe they'll be forced to disclose exactly why they aren't willing to consider us, and that would be interesting - and entertaining - indeed.
