When you see a basketball player who is glorified for announcing that he’s gay and then you see an honest young man like Cole arrested and treated like a criminal for making an honest mistake – you wonder what’s happening to our country,” he said. “The culture seems to be completely disconnected from our roots – our Christian heritage and our Constitution. I hope the American people wake up before it’s too late.”
Why in the world did he say this??? The two instances have nothing to do with each other. If we ever want to get anywhere, those who represent the university have to avoid making themselves the center of political controversies. Stick with the whole education thing.

This story has been bouncing around facebook for over 24 hours .... I just clicked over there again and read through a ton of feed back. Had to come back to FF's to find any criticism. The MSNBC crowd must still be in bed this morning.

Not much ...

And what he said is "so true" most wouldn't argue about it.

100% agreed...seems like a cheap shot. Christ followers should show more caring and love, not less. I'll also never understand the southern Christian love of everything gun related. (I know that's a stereotype, but this type of thing just reinforces that stereotype to me)

huh? What did I do? I said the thing about gay marriage has nothing to do with a story about him fighting gun charges... he can have that opinion but it doesn't have anyplace in a story about offering a scholarship.

I have no idea how I "called out falwell"... I never even mentioned him or anyone else. If you're going to attack someone, at least get what they said down correctly.

I think it is just a commentary on the state of critical thinking in our country. In one camp, you have someone coming out as being gay, which indicates they not only have been lying for a long time about who they are, but also are possibly living in open rebellion against God and he is put up as a hero and a young man who tries to do the right thing when presented with a difficult situation is punished by the system.

I think that was the point.

In his statement, Withrow publicly apologized to school administrators, law enforcement personnel and District Attorney Susan Doyle.
"I was not truthful...I did in fact know that the two shotguns were in my truck on school property. I did not mean to hurt anyone by my actions," he said in the statement.
According to Davis, Withrow was texting and laughing as he taken to jail, saying "Ha, ha, my friends are going to start a petition about why I'm being charged with this."
Withrow said in his statement that he wanted to correct the misinformation reported to the media.
"I understand this inaccurate information resulted in many agencies and individuals suffering significant harm," he said. "I should have stopped the inaccuracies, and I did not. As a result, I think it is imperative that I now take responsibility for my own actions."
Perhaps LU jumped the 'gun' on this one a tad too early.

Something still doesn't add up here. The kid lying is absolutely inexcusable, but did somebody seriously squeal on the guy simply for having hunting rifles in his car? Because that's just stupid.

And no, I'm not a believer in federal property being a good excuse for terrible laws.

Even though millions of Americans carry, both open and concealed each and every day? It's just so irrational. Anyway I don't mean to make the story about you but come on. Who goes around looking in other people's cars?

You are really starting to sound like a troll. I'm a high school teacher. I am legally responsible to report weapons on campus. If I see them in a student's car, of course I'm reporting them. The kid knew he had guns in his car, he deserves what's coming to him.
