So, La Careta #1 on Timberlake is moving just up the road next to Lowes, where Big Lick #2 was previously. Great idea.

The Vinny's on Fort Ave/Timberlake is gone, and being replaced by what's being called "Hill City House". Should be interesting.

Anyone ever eat at that little food shack on Fifth St? Me neither, but she now has a full-fledged restaurant over on Old Forest Rd, called Bernadette's Home Cooking.

The lady who owns Geralds in Wyndhurst opened up a place out in Forest (next to Kroger) called Louises. The chef is an experienced Applebees cook and has trouble with punctuation in the names of her establishments, so take it for what it's worth.

Also, Delicia's on the corner of Timberlake/Leesville is pretty awesome. They specialize in "Latin American" food, but it's primarily Salvadoran and Mexican. Very good, and not expensive.

I hope that isn't related to TY Realty. All we need is non-restauranteurs opening restaurants... and it only makes it worse if they use their own name in the title.

Is there still a pueblo viejo? I know Wasabi's is in the old location next to the dollar theatre but when you google it comes up on Old Forest Rd, atleast it did. Does anyone know if this is the same place?

Slight clarification: Wasabi's is indeed where the old "Pueblo Viejo" used to be. Mi Patron is moving in next door. La Villa is opening a second location where the Sundae Grill used to be.

Is it any good? Have a menu or website?
This. Thai '99 and Blue Orchid are both blah and overpriced. Neither can even get a simple dish like Pad Thai right. I stop in Cafe Mekong in Blacksburg to get my Thai fix in because both places in town are so sub-par.

I made my first trip to Thai 99 a couple months ago and thought it was pretty good. Now I wish they had put more shrimp in my dish but for what I got it was pretty solid. Certainly Im no expert in Thai food like the scribe but I havent really had too many bad meals anywhere (bad service maybe but not bad food)

Ate at Ty Thai last night. In a word...awful. There were about 4 other tables in the restaurant, and it took us nearly an hour (50 minutes) to get our food. Ordered Pad Thai and it tasted the same as what it tastes like when you get it in a box. The bean sprouts were canned as well. Noodle & Company's Pad Thai is better.

I agree. Maybe I just need more experience.

I hadnt tried it and so when a friend of my wife and I invited us out with her and her husband to a Thai place, I figured it was worth a shot. I figure when it comes to food, I'll try almost anything once.

Just so you know I'm recording all of your stories for publication. I will own the rights to them just like when Peterman bought the rights to all of Kramer's life stories. You will be nothing, BJ, nothing but a pair of empty parentheses.

To me it offers heat and strong flavors in a low-fat fresh cooking method. Low use of any processed foods. And I love the heat and depth of flavors that are non-std to US. Also prices very moderate.

Same here. I'm not a Pad Thai fan, but there are some really good rice, vegetable and meat options that pack a lot of flavor combined with sweat-inducing heat which is what I want.

In the NW… not in some other places (i.e. Lynchburg, MI, AL). I lived in Olympia, WA for 4 years… there were at least 10 good Thai places, and it was fairly cheap.
