Could someone please recount Mr. Thibodeaux's credentials again. No offense to our own Flames Nation, but Bobcat Report is simply a BLOG. I'm not sure why everyone takes every little wind blown supposition and follows it like a fact. We have seen the "news" in this process go all over the place, positive and negative for LU, and yet many of you still choose to lift up every Tweeter and Blogger with "my source inside the conference tells me" as stinking Edward R. Murrow.

I also think it's funny how everyone is now an expert on here. Sue the NCAA? Go Independent? Go to another FCS conference? Did anyone hear that the intention was to enter the PROCESS to move to FBS. Just a tip, sometimes Processes take more than a year.

I for one choose to let the process ride out and trust Jeff and Jerry Jr. These guys know the story and ALL the real facts and details, and as of yet they are not running around crying. Give them time.

It may not happen now, but it will happen at some point.

Good Grief!

Everyone apart from LU administration is to be discredited and conjecture no longer tolerated on a sports fan message board. Got it.

Hey guys... Shut this board down... Rooster Cogburn has spoken.

TallyW wrote:At some point these conferences do open themselves up to anti-trust issues and potential collusion arguments. For the NCAA to deny our ability to participate through their tiers system in this one particular sport defies the foundation of free markets and is essentially the reason for anti-trust laws on monopolies.

The subjective nature is what would open them up for problems. If the basis for entry into the "big boy league" is capacity, Title IX concerns or budget... those are within a FCS University's control. If, however, a system is set up to be subjective and that subjectivity denies a University access to a larger stream of revenue, that's classic collusion. The NCAA is the body I am referring to, not the SBC or ACC. No conference affiliation is a 'right' however the ability to play as an independent should be a right if a university is unable to get invited into a conference.

Do I feel that LU should sue? Not quickly. But if it becomes evident that we develop enough evidence that the reasons we're being denied have to do with religious reasons, political reasons or even free-speech reasons...we have a right to nudge our way through the door.

Access should be based on a set of rules that allow a free market approach to take place. 15,000 average fans? Fine. Financial stability? Sure. Title IX? Absolutely.

Free speech? No. Political persuasion? No. Religious freedom? Absolutely not.

I don't know if there is really an injustice here. I really don't. I am however saying that if there is an injustice on the grounds I'm presenting I would hope and expect that we'd take that on to be given the same opportunity as any Independent. Football is the only place in D-1 where this division exists and this invitation rule is in place.

Getting teams to play us at that point would be another challenge but I'd presume we could control that i$$ue long enough to become friends with a few schools.
Tally, for the past 12 years, through work I am a friend of Senator Burr. If you send me questions that you would like he or his staff to respond to I can hand deliver them to him personally. He and I have discussed many issues over the years, in person and via email.

I'm a huge supporter of JB and Jerry Jr. I trust that they have done the best job possible to position LU for an invite and will continue to do a great job. However, until we get that invite, why can't we sue the NCAA or get out of the Big South? I can't see one benefit to staying in the Big South if we have the opportunity to move to the CAA or SoCon. I'll agree that being FBS independent isn't a good idea but I don't understand why we would want to wait in the Big South. If we can't get the FBS invite now, why not try to get in a better FCS conference?

Thanks. Not sure that I have any LU questions. Nor do I have standing. I did Roy taxes yesterday so I'm sure we could talk about that :)

This is my understanding of where things right now. The SBC was to have visited the campus this week. However, Bennett was unable to get any of the SBC Presidents to step on campus...basic problem: we are perceived as a Bible college with an online degree mill that lacks any academic credibility. Of course this isn't true, but this is their perception. This is what Jr has referenced repeatedly concerning the academic elitists that frown upon online education and his desire that they stay that way so we can continue to roll our wheel barrel full of cash to the bank while they scramble to keep their budgets in tack all while they stick their elitist nose in the air toward any online program of study.

Foe example, the UVA attempt at the firing of their President this past year. Gov McDonnell made it clear to her and the Board that UVA needed to explore and develop online programs of study. The reason, to reduce their consistent need for public funds by creating other funding sources; online programs of study. He used Liberty as a successful example of how online programs can sustain and expand a univerity budget through increased sources of revenue. He has sent other VA institutions to LU to examine how we have been so successful...I know, I've been in the meetings. One such institution made the comment upon leaving, will you please call the Governor and tell him why it is impossible for us to do what you've done here. The reason, we aren't tied to the traditional approach to higher education, tenure, etc...as Doc Falwell used to say, the inmates don't run this asylum! Probably didn't win anyone over with those comments either, although it is relevant to the success of LU, it could have been said without disdain for faculty and academics.

UVA's president was given a time frame to get the process started and the programs offered...she stonewalled and did nothing, so the board moved to fire her for her insubordination. However, as we all saw played out, the academic elitists won out. Soon after her reinstatement, UVA announces its exploration of MOOCS course...basically free online courses available for anyone but that do not lead to any academic credit or increased revenue. Apparently, her attempt to satisfy the Governors mandate...what a joke.

What Liberty has done in online education is unparalleled in non-profit institutions of higher Ed. And the academic elitists resent it and look down upon it and us for it. Liberty operates like a for-profit business, checking and balancing revenue sources and making sure all programs are effective. That doesn't mean if a program isn't it is immediately cut, the Law School hasn't made a profit yet, and the school of Engineering may never make a profit but these are programs that LU's leadership has determined are necessary regardless of their profit margin, may be the case with the new Med program too as a tremendous amount of funding has already been infused without one student admitted and enrolled in courses until fall 2015 at the earliest.

So, as it stands now, LU is submitting a full report of our academic credentials and success of our graduates in the market place, especially the changes since the passing of our founder, to the SBC. If we can't get them on campus now, the thought is that maybe this report can open their eyes a bit, and possible get them to at least visit the campus. We all know how impressive the campus is and what a positive impression it makes on anyone who visits. But they have to agree to visit, which may what they are afraid of! We've all known for years that one of the successes of student recruiting is CFAW, if we can get a student on campus the majority of the time they will apply and enroll. Now if we just get a few SBC Presidents to visit! I submit that we should all pray for this report to be effective, impressive and present what we all know to be true about Liberty so that some may come.

Before we get some info that gets us all back to being depressed, let's realize something. I keep seeing people over and over in this thread saying "nobody ever said FBS would be the immediate future just someday". Maybe that's true, but we all need to be on the same page here. There is a definite assumption that we will be FBS within the next few years by the department, whether or not they tell us that. Gill is not here to take us to FBS in 10 years. So when Thibedeauxzhaczk tweets something tomorrow about how the SBC charter was amended to ban Liberty, let's not start up the talk about "well it's a long term goal anyway".

Anybody else feel like we are Gilligan and the castaways and the SBC and whatever other conference you can think of are the oddballs that keep showing up on the island giving us hope for rescue only to steal away in the middle of the night?
