It's a shame but the Sun Belt really is our only chance, even though I hate how we are starting to look like the last kid picked at gym class :(
I certainly hope that that isn't true and that we are still in the running.

If this is true, we would be the last kid of an odd number group and not even get picked and have to wait for the next game.....maybe

I don't understand why we would just fall off of the map like that. Even if they came to a consensus that they didn't want us, what are they gaining by saying they're no longer interested? It would make sense to at least say we're on their radar until they invite JMU. I think there is more to this story than what is being reported.

I have worried about that from day one and have a feeling it will always hold us back. Too bad most hold prejudice towards the school without really knowing much about it except for things that were said poorly or taken out of context 10-20 years ago.

It appears that either

1. We need to focus on winning the Big South next year and make a run in the playoffs.

OR

2. The SEC is sending an invitation and we told the Sun Belt that we were not interested.

Option 1. But option 2 makes us feel better

I could be wrong, but I really don't think religion has anything to do with. Religion hasn't stopped Notre Dame, BYU, Baylor or any other religious college from succeeding all around.

IF this is true its not a bad play by the SBC. If they wait till next year to invite JMU and JMU doesn't accept it's not like we are going to say No if they asked us.

They could make that choice with out "eliminating" Liberty from the discussion.

Still can't believe they want to wait a year for a school that doesn't want to join.
Next year we will be back in the same boat. JMU will have their study done but will still be holding out hope for 'bigger and better' things and we will be used again as leverage.

Remember also that nobody said we would be FBS within a given time frame, they just said that we desire to move to FBS and are ready when the invitation comes. Its certainly a bummer to miss out like this (if this is true), but it just means that we, as SumItUp suggested, refocus on winning the Big South this year, since we wont be distracted by the prospect of joining an FBS conference in 2014, and making a playoff run.

I don't think a private school has been invited to play at the NCAA, FBS level since the 1970's, correct?

Someone posted,
Reporters at Rivals are saying... Liberty is no longer in consideration because of too much push back from Louisiana schools.

Our attention now has to be focused on getting out if the Big South. For those of you that think politics and religion have nothing to do with this decision don't understand the mindset of the progressive liberal educators. Many of those folks have a zealot dislike for Liberty. I'm attend two state schools for grad work. I've witness first hand how Liberty is viewed.

I've attended and worked at State schools. They mock us because we don't WIN. If we had big wins etc, the rest wouldn't matter. But since we don't, it does.

Yeah, I've had some people at Duke snicker at it but mostly indifferent towards LU or have never heard of it. The reaction I often get when I tell folks I went to LU is "Isn't that where Seth Curry came from?"

I've got to disagree with you Haize. The student body of state schools may mock us because we don't win, but the faculty to a large degree mock us because we teach creation and believe in other "unscientific" areas.

No not really, I have been asked about my membership with the Dark Side though, I had no idea we were getting such notoriety so quickly
Having Seth Curry start here has given LU some street cred with the folks I associate with around Duke

I have found the professors and even some admission coordinators have the Bill Maher thoughts about Liberty. Don't confuse students with the important people that make decisions.
