Moving on in our look at the offense, we look at probably the biggest question mark on the offensive side of the ball coming into the spring:

Wide Receiver

Players Lost

Patrick Kelly
Elliot Dutra
Ryan Ferguson

Players Returning

DaMarcus Faison
Darrin Peterson
Jaquan Glover
Branden Francis
Gabe Henderson
Ryan McCarter
Greg Pratt
Dante Shells

The reason this probably is the biggest question mark is because of this list, only Peterson, Glover and Henderson registered catches in 2012. The three combined would still have rated fifth among wideouts last season. Peterson showed flashes of potential to be a #1 receiver throughout (including a 41 yard TD in the win over Concord), so look for him and Glover to be the #1 and #2 receivers headed in to the summer. After that is anybody's guess. Henderson was originally the heir apparent to former Flames star Mike Brown (now with Jacksonville of the NFL), before a coaching change shifted him to wideout. He took a few snaps as the "wildcat" quarterback before moving solely to receiver the remainder of the season. Shells was a player that looked like he would be in the regular rotation following a very impressive spring last year before the injury big bit him again and he sat out the season. Pratt, a transfer from Troy University three seasons ago, has struggled to find a place in the lineup after moving from RB when he arrived. Francis, McCarter and Faison all also will get a chance, the other two after sitting out as redshirts last year.

Tight End

Players Lost

Justin Gunn
Andrew Cordasco
Kendall Couamin (converted to RB)

Players Returning

Brandon Apon
Peter Gagliardi
Dexter Herman
Garrett Long
Canon Smith
Michael Johnson

2012 was the Justin Gunn show, with the converted LB finishing fifth on the team in receptions (18) and tied for the team lead in TDs (3). Apon and Gagliardi (who came to Liberty as a FB), will likely be the top two at the position, but if Gagliardi is moved back to fullback (which seems like a definite possibility), it will come down to Canon Smith, one of the major recruits from head coach Turner Gill's first recruiting class along with Herman and Michael Johnson.
