I hate how it takes it blowing up big in the national media for them to make a move but at lead they did it. Now the question is would they still have fired him had he had any kind of success??? Hmmmm

LOL...that emoticon is funny for this! I don't think he would have been fired if this video did not leak to the public.

this guy may should be hauled into the courts of New Jersey and charged with disorderly conduct and assault, then spent some time in jail. There is no excuse for this type behavior from any coach.

Unfortunately, Rice is far from the only one. But he broke the one rule: he got caught.

It's amazing how much verbal and physical abuse is swept under the rug in athletics. Somewhere along the way, our society granted far more leeway in such things to athletic coaches at all age and skill levels, and we will pay the price for it dearly within one generation. PlCoach-to-player and coach-to-coach, it can be downright brutal. I've experienced it thoroughly myself.

Major props to Murdock for reporting it. Sad state of affairs in coaching is that he'll probably not get another job in the business for quite some time. There is such a heavy unwritten rule against whistle-blowers. I actually read more tweets than I could count today about finding "loyal assistants." Sickening.

NONE OF THIS IS A SURPRISE, NOR WAS IT UNKNOWN! After his suspension in December, it was reported by numerous news outlets that the reason for his suspension was vulgarity, homophobic slurs, and physical abuse toward players in the way of shoving and throwing basketballs at them - all of which was in the video. AND YET HE WAS NOT FIRED THEN! It took the video and government officials' outrage to finally get it done.

If the video doesn't surface, the public and officials like Chris Christie don't react the way they did. And if the public and public officials don't react, Rice still has a job. It's asinine that it took all this to make it happen. And who knows if even this would've been enough if his teams had a winning record?!

The AD should released sometime soon (assuming it hasn't already been done). This is sick.

Not a terrible idea. I don't know a thing about his faith, but this one event says a little something about his integrity. What a statement that Layer could make in the coaching community by taking this guy on.

I wonder if Murdock (who I assume has managed his assets well) stand up against this because he could afford to? The anti-whistle-blowing culture is a tough but to crack for 20- and 30-something's makings end's meat while scratching and clawing for a foothold in a super-high demand niche of the workforce.

Um...there's already a story circulating (from WFAN) that he went to the school and demanded money, reportedly $1 million, to keep him from releasing the video. When they wouldn't play ball, he went ahead with it. If that's true then what he did was vengeance for getting fired, and attempted bribery, not integrity.

Ok. I stated the event said something abut his integrity; I didn't say what.

He was just trying to make it simpler on them. Either give him the $1 million now and avoid the crap storm OR have me release the tapes, you have to deal with the PR disaster that will ensue, and then get sued for illegally firing a whistle blower.

It's definitely fishy that he showed the tape to school officials in December then released it publicly in April. Definitely lends credence to the idea that he was trying to squeeze some cash out of the school in exchange for keeping it under wraps.

His assistant, Jimmy Marinelli, who apparently is sometimes referred to as ¨Baby Rice¨ has also been fired for similar player abuse.................... perhaps worse.

And now the AD has been fired. Eventually schools are going to realize this isn't the 50s, or even the 90s, anymore and you can't cover this stuff up for very long and certainly can't give a slap on the wrist as punishment.

I haven't really followed this story other than knowing of it. Did the players even complain? Doubt it. They've been dealing with it since they were kids.

Several players transferred and about half of them cited treatment by the coaches as the reason.

I thought him getting Rutgers into the B1G would have gotten him some grace and he would have kept his job. But his OTL interview was awful

I remember a coach I had in 7th grade doing the same kind of crap. I thought it was normal and just a way to get us to play better. Of course we were pretty awful and fought with eachother all the time and never came together. There is a big difference between being a disciplinarian and abusing players. This crossed the line without a doubt
