Having read the last few pages and seen the responses on both sides (from FFG and you PH and Liberty22 and everybody on both sides of this whole nonsense), I think I can understand why the chancellor hasnt commented on here (or at least on this thread) recently even though Im sure he reads here regularly when he gets home.

Not moving to FBS necessarily but everybody freaking out at every rumor/announcement and why everybody hates us and all the stuff that fans on other message boards say about us and how realignment is passing us by , we are doomed in the Big South, etc. The Chancellor and the AD are in their positions for a reason and they are working behind the scenes and preparing for an eventual move to FBS. They never gave any concrete timetable for when that move would occur and that is the best thing to do because by not saying "we will be FBS by 2014" or "we will be FBS within 5 years" or something along those lines, nobody (especially some of the Chicken Littles or developing Chicken Littles on here) can go around saying, "see? They said this and it didnt happen when they said it would."

SCAR wrote:I have a couple of general observations about this thread: It is amazing how many on here think that what is going on here in this message board or any other message board is affecting the outcome of this situation. Why would we care what a bunch of fans on another message board think? It may be true that politics and religion might be a factor in accepting or rejecting Liberty. But that has nothing to do with how a small sector of fans on a message board are slamming Liberty. It doesn't matter and had little to do with the decision or the actions of the athletic dept and JLFJR on behalf of Liberty.

Secondly I am disappointed at so many who want to compromise their belief or stance or tone down the message for the sake of Football. The SUNBELT CONF no less!!!!! It shouldn't matter if the Big 10, ACC or any other power conference was calling. You should never change who you are or what you stand for. Flameshaw said it best. I'd rather them shut the whole athletic dept down than to compromise Liberty's conservative stance for the sake of getting an invitation.

I stay out of most if not all political and/or religious conversations on message boards and Facebook because they are pointless, people feel the need to be jerks about their position because they are behind a keyboard, and nothing ever gets resolved. I'm not saying that is happening here by the way. Most times people do more harm to their cause than good on either side of any argument.

However reading this thread I felt compelled to speak up. I think the most important thing here for Liberty is to be patient, keep working behind the scenes, keep making progress towards being FBS ready and it will happen when it is supposed to happen. I had this same attitude in 2001 when I was laid off from a very good telecommunications job and it took me 10 months to get even a part time job. Then I spent 7 years doing Contractor work as a Project Manager. Sure those positions were lucrative but also unstable. They could come in on any morning and tell me today is the last day. Finally I got a full time job in Healthcare and now I am working for a great company that is on the rise and I am in a key position. That was 10 years in the making but it did happen.

It may take 10 years for Liberty. The important thing is to keep doing things right and the process will eventually render the desired results.
+1 And I know about the job situation, 18 months for me in 2000.

Since when did wanting to tone down political and anti-gay speech turn into compromising beliefs? I hear a lot about "rather shut down the athletic department than compromise our beliefs" on this thread and it is putting the cart way, way ahead of the horse.

SCAR - you seem to imply that Liberty cannot remain a Christian school without the political platform? How is that so?

This is the kind of thing we are talking about (those of us tired of the politics)

@jmattbarber: Most "gays" don't want the white picket fence. They want to burn it down #Truth #ProtectMarriage

@jmattbarber: If "same-sex marriage" becomes law of land, observing Christian sexual morality becomes an actionable offense. This is left's goal #Truth

@jmattbarber: Obama's face resembles Burnett's Satan in "The Bible"? Don't see it. Now, as for the two's public policy positions... Well...

"Falwell, 50, acknowledged that Liberty’s image continues to be influenced by the legacy of his late father’s political activism. The elder Falwell, who died in May 2007, was a polarizing figure — beloved on the right, despised on the left.
But his son said Liberty has turned a page.
“We’re not the Moral Majority anymore,” Falwell said, referring to the religious conservative movement his father founded. “We’re not a church. Our mission is to educate.”

Texas State went to the WAC that was expanding their reach into Texas to try and keep the membership alive. If Texas State "DID NOT make the move to FBS to end up in a conference with a bunch of FCS start ups", they fooled a bunch of people by joining the WAC. There was no stability the day that they joined. The WAC was still hoping for the addition of Montana & Montana State (FCS), which never came to fruition. After that, the WAC began calling the eastern schools (LIberty, JMU, App State, Jax State) trying to find a way to get them to join.

Did anyone watch the ASU presser? This guy is claiming benson didn't rule out the possibility of going to 16 teams. That could help us lol.
Benson leveraged the opportunity by bringing in the best talent in the east. He's doing the same in the west as we speak. He mentioned today during our presser that 16 teams is not out of the question. My money is on his being successful with this endeavor.

@SpironNOTW Liberty is on the list but not high up on the depth chart.

People need to learn that most people who go to Liberty are not crazy Christians who say stupid stuff like former Liberty people did. Most people are forced to go to Liberty. Some are Christians as well, but not crazy Christians.
Once again, it does not matter. You will never convince them. You cannot help people who do not want to be convinced.

Most people are NOT "FORCED" to go to LU.

I TRANSFERRED to have the oppertunity to go to a place like Liberty. Most people are proud of their school.

What you might be saying is some people's parents want them to go to LU. That's fine...but by the same token, some people's parents might want them to go to Tech. I know of one person that WANTED to go to LU, but his parents, being Tech people, "FORCED" him to go to Tech.

As far as the conservative stuff. I think it's fine to have people like Romney and Beck speak at commencement...it's fine to teach Biology with an open mind like we do as opposed to the secular schools that would rather believe in Aliens than God.

That being said, Logic made the point well with the twitter posts. Same thing with the Liberty Counsel Alert emails...there are people in these areas that are just looking to be intentionally controversial just to bring in the donations...it's not about toning down the conservative position...it's about presenting the conservative position in a loving and caring way, knowing that you represent an entire school.

There may be organizations within LU that feel that they have to be provacative to be relevant. I just don't think this is the case, and in fact it turns more people off than it helps...but it's so much in their DNA, that's always the way they've done things, that they won't change and they don't care if they hurt the school in the process.

Who cares about Matt Barber? The only time I ever hear about this guy is when it comes to whiners whining about athletic conferences. He appears to be a loud guy with little tact. How many stupid stories to we read about every day about some idiot professes at State U making his class do some dumb thing that we get all outraged at? Yet they never seem to come up in conference realignment talk. I wonder why? Because it has nothing to do with athletics.

The issue here is that many of those schools either are already in the FBS ranks or have no care in the world to join the FBS ranks. We do. Also, keep in mind that because of our Christian message, people judge us according to the standards we say we stand for. It's not so much a matter of politics, but the way in which the politics are portrayed to the rest of the world. Having pundits speak at events at your school is fine. We extend invitations to both sides every year to come and speak. Having them associated directly with your school where they throw bombs at those they disagree with on a daily basis is different. We are called to hold ourselves to a different standard and show love to those who despise us and disagree with us. Compromising our message? That's not what we're advocating. Disagreeing with others in a manner that is respectful and allows us to show the love of Christ to others? That's what we're talking about.

I haven't heard about this. I'm wondering if he's talking about 16 football schools or 14 football schools and 16 overall? Benson always try to hype the crowd with some of his statements. Truthful speaking, I hope he converts back to his "old ways" and expand like crazy. Expanding has always been his M.O.

Absolutely nobody wants that, we want the asinine, intentionally polarizing, shock value statements to go. Being a defacto Republican worshiping institution could fall by the wayside as well and there still wouldn't be a single compromise on core biblical beliefs.

No I didn't mean to imply that. In fact I can't stand extreme views personally on either side of any issue. I am all for toning down the rhetoric especially when it is coming off as hateful. I was just saying that to me it seems like some want to just abandon the moral stance in favor of football. Believe me I am far from the extreme right or left on most issues personally.

It's why I have no moral stance. That way I have nothing to compromise. I'm also ambidextrous so I go both ways.....left and right.....get your mind out of the gutter.

Our country would be better off if the Moral Majority made a hasty return. Just read the newspaper each day.
