Isn't it ironic that the very establishment we spent the first 40 years of our existence railing against now holds our FBS future in their hands...If there is one thing that liberal President's hate more than they love money, it might just be political conservatism, specifically the "in your face style" of our first 40 years. Perhaps even more ironic is the fact that real conservatism isn't even found in the GOP, rather it is found in the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party. Not only are we pushing an agenda extremely unpopular in the liberal elitist academic world, we aren't even pushing a party that is truly conservative.

That conflicts with reports the past few days that Creighton wouldn't be in the initial group but Dayton would be. But frankly this makes more sense. Once it becomes official it will start the dominoes tumbling in the Mo Valley & A-10.

If the Sun Belt were to choose to go to 12 teams to stage a football championship game then I feel we would be a shoe-in for membership ...

As the Sun Belt Conference prepares to add at least two new schools in the next few weeks, another key issue regarding league membership looms.

Should the Sun Belt having 12 football-playing members and stage a conference football championship game?

The question is one is the league — to which UL belongs — debated, then decided against, in 2012.

Yet now the SBC is considering going that route again.

What's changed?

Plenty.

It will be interesting to see how the A-10 and MVC react to losing members. Who does the A-10 take to replace Xavier and Butler? Does the MVC add a member to replace Creighton or stay put? Does one of the conferences cannibalize the other? :popcorn

The SBC Presidents need to wake up. They're already the "worst" FBS league and by not keeping up with the rest of the 5 they're only going to fall further behind. The question is, which President(s) are not on board and how can we convince them to get on board???

The consensus seems to be that the Arkansas State & Louisiana schools are the ones being most resistant to either the CCG or our admission. Keep in mind that the incoming members don't have a vote.

Couldn't Art Williams put a little pressure on Arkansas State for us...didn't he make a big donation to their program...similar to helping LU build the Vines Center...or am I totally off?

Any thoughts on why, Sly? Do they not want to move the footprint further east? Is it the political conservatism?

That is correct. They don't want to be left as outliers in a more eastern-based league. They seem to concede App State & Georgia Southern but they want to find someone further western or within the existing footprint. Ironically it is the same schools that are resistant to considering schools from the Southland Conference to which they now possess a recruiting edge based on their FBS membership.

I'm guessing footprint, cost of travel are worrying smaller FBS public institutions in these troubled economic times? How many FBS schools can each state support.

That is a question being asked frequently in cash-strapped Louisiana. There has been discussion in recent years of possibly merging LaTech & Louisiana-Monroe. The same has been discussed about possibly merging some of the financially troubled SWAC schools into the larger schools.

The ESPN announcer on 106.3 was talking about the first 4 games about 5 minutes before tipoff, and he said, "Liberty University comes out of the Sun Belt conference". Let's hope he was being prophetic.

Although I think I'd be happy with a football only invite. Does the Sunbelt really do much for LU as a basketball conference compared with the Big South? The Sunbelt was a two bid league this year, but most yeara it's a one bid just like the Big South, right? Plus the schools as far as basketball are further away. At least VMI, Longwood, and Radford bring in a couple of fans. Or am I totally off base?

No, you are right on. But it's all about football and I don't think they will take us, or anyone, as football only.

The two teams representing the Sun Belt this year are MTSU and WKU. MTSU's already been invited to the CUSA and it seems WKU is likely to follow. Anyone know anything about the new Sun Belt school's basketball squads?

I can say one thing for sure!!! If the sunbelts inviting schools based on their Bball skills they are no worse off taking us to replace Middle Tenn.
