I am a proud Liberty fan... but I had seen this article this morning on Liberty Men's Basketball that is currently trending as one of the Top Stories on Yahoo.

The posting of this article is not an attempt to rain on yesturday's parade. As the article itself will of course not come as any surprise to Liberty fans that have actually followed this season in detail.

I know that we have all been along for the same ride this season where we seen alot of losses, frustration and difficult adversity to overcome; and then this weekend we saw the greatest display of courage, tenacity, fight and determination that we could all really celebrate about and rally around!

Regardless, here's some press: It is what it is --

One thing about it, LU earned their bid by winning their tournament, which is what any team is supposed to do. There will be a lot ot teams in field of 64 who had to depend on a gift from Selection Committee. LU belongs in tournament as much as any team there, and more so than many.

CajunFlame wrote:Bad press?? An improbable run to the NCAA tourney has been nothing but good news for Liberty. No other final game was the lead on ESPN.

I used the word "some" bad press and for a reason. Of course, not all of it is bad press. We journalistically made one of the top stories on Yahoo today(!) So, of course I do not contend with you a single bit that Liberty has made an epic run to the NCAA Tourney, and that being on the national stage for Liberty will be great.

I heard of Liberty for the first time myself when Liberty Basketball was on the national NCAA Tournament stage in 1994. That aspect of this national stage and exposure is very special to me.

I even overhead coworkers talking (watercooler talk) about Liberty here at the office (in Ogden, Utah). Liberty is on a national stage right now and for the next couple of weeks. I was merely pointing that out. And was posting about some of that journalistic talk presently by some.

I posted a journalistic piece that reflects how our record is seen and and about our overall season and the hand that we were dealt (some injuries). Of course there is no surprise or secret to anyone that follows Liberty basketball.

We don't want to be Nobody's Fool but on this Gypsy Road of NCAA basketball sometimes you just have to say Shake Me when something this good happens. Because eventually you will you will ask Somebody Save Me or Shelter me and realize this type of opportunity doesn't come around too often and if you are not careful you Don't Know What You'Ve Got, till its gone.

Think about the millions and millions of brackets that people will fill out, many of which never even watch college hoops. They all will have to at least look at the name Liberty on their bracket. You can't put a price on that kind of publicity for the institution as a whole.

Some may even write us in as winning in the first four.

Wait, do you guys actually fill in those four? I didn't even think they counted towards my point total at the end of the tournament. I need to check that out...

I saw a quote on a church marquee as I drove home after yesterday's game. It seemed absolutely apropos for the day's events, and serves as a nice glass of "shut-up juice" for those who would simply focus on Liberty's record.

"God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called."

They don't.

This is a MAJOR win in recruiting. The tournament is a bonus this year - but in the long run, having an NCAAT appearance is going to be huge when talking with fringe players. Consdering most of the players today were in the middle of elementary school the last time we made the tournament, this will open a few eyes.

I agree that this is excellent for LU. The Cinderella thing, as others mentioned, will get our name out to thousands of people across the country that may have not heard of us otherwise. Especially if they can win the playin and face a 1 seed. All of the #1 seeds will have a ton of haters, and if LU is the 16 seed then that, by default, will give LU a ton of fans.

I thought that was retarded too. Their questions were about our rules and lack of partying, how stupid..

40 years ago when athletes like McCauley Rivera, Willard DeShazor and Reggie Perkins were practically the only black students at LBC, that was a legit question, and the answer was yes, they did get lonely at times but believed they were where God wanted them to be. I know because I asked them. Asking that question of any LU student today simply reveals a total lack of knowledge of what the school now is and the demographics of our student body.

I agree. Why even ask that question to begin with?
