Relax, I hated it at first too but the more I look at it and think objectively and not emotionally, it is pretty cool..
How can you look at it emotionally ? I mean you either like it or you don't. I don't care for it but realize that my tastes are not as refined as those in the hierarchy that make this type of decision.
Really? You have to ask? It's not that difficult, if someone really loves our "current" logo and then we change it, they will be emotional about it..

I'm not talking emotionally at all. I looked pretty in depth at the branding guide. The serifs and gray stuff looks horrible. Don't worry though, our admin will change their minds in three years and we'll have something new.
True, although I was surprised that we had this past one for a decade.. didn't realize that it was that long!

I think the Atlanta Hawks sued us for that one ha. Which may be why we didn't go the route I suggested earlier,...

For all the remarks about constant rebranding, my current employer has put a league property through three public rebrandings since the league was introduced 12 months ago, and the league hasn't even launched yet. 0 of the 8 leagues we operate have a logo from 2010.

Now's the time to do it. If we are calling the next 3-4 years a timeframe where we step up, over time it will become increasingly counter-productive to make branding changes. The logo is a bit busy for my tastes, but I'm just happy we'll have a logo and monogram that can print without looking ridiculous or non-existent on a helmet.

I wasn't a huge fan of it until I saw it on the helmet. It will work. I like the solid logo without the shading better.

Honestly, I only own one item of apparel that has the word "Flames" on it and I only wear that if I am at a home game. I teach middle school. If I go anywhere near that place on college shirt wearing that one, I get laughed at by the staff and students alike. Sorry guys, having Flames on anything is a GIGANTIC joke to everyone. I really wish they would have strongly considered changing this while they were at it. I'd rather be boring than a laughing stock for the rest of the country.

Oh, and I'm really glad that when I donned a Liberty cross country/track singlet in the late 90s, it simply said "Liberty" on the front. Wearing short shorts and being labeled a flame isn't as fun as it sounds.

I like Liberty Flames. The day we change our name to accommodate for the ignorance of middle schoolers is the day I jump ship. Only a fool would pander to the Justin Bieber crowd. Call me elitist, that's fine, immature 8th graders mean nothing to me when discussing a university logo / nickname. When they reach a suitable level of education or socioeconomic status then perhaps, and only then perhaps, will I listen to their snide remarks.

I said it once and I'll say it again.. If south carolina is fine with "go cocks" I think we will be fine with the occasional homo reference with our nickname. I love that it is Flames, why does it have to have the negative connotation, flames are HOT, HOT, HOT!! Besides, with a nickname like Flames, it should be hard to call us bigots!

Agree with you. Eight logo changes in 42 years . On the positive side, I'll have more money now, as I won't be buying.

Seriously? In the world of athletics there is a huge difference between Go Cocks and its relevant variants and Flame with its relevant variants. Going to aUSC football game and hearing one side of yell GO and the other side yell COCKS is pretty fun.
I'm not hating on The Flames. i just wish we would incorporate it more into our logo's etc. That IMHO, would do more to blunt the jokes and connotations and give us something unique to brand than anything short of a name change. I have never really thought about it being changed, but I must say having thought about it I wouldn't be opposed to changing it to something else.

That used to be on the wall in the Schilling Center (RIP). I spent many an hour staring at it, wondering *were they really serious?*

Look on the bright side, at least we won't have a bunch of annoying high schools stealing or requesting use of the new logo.

It's like Iowa joined the MAC. That's all I can think of when I see it.

Also, it's disappointing that they stole the anger from Sparky. This whole thing is just starting to look really weak to me. Makes me less inclined to buy merch.

What does the stadium chant have to do with the possible negative connotation of the cock nickname? So what your arguing is if our crowd yells go flames its no longer gay but "pretty fun" hmm makes sense..

No that was just an aside. But do I have to paint a picture of why comparing USC's nickname and its connotation is preferable in the world of athletics to Flames and its connotations?

Apparently because I would much rather be "flames" than "cocks". There are a heck of a lot more we can do with fire athletically than a cock
