I don't think it will be a high scoring game. VMI has not had the same defensive pressure as in years past and they certainly don't have the scoring punch or the explosions from Three that they have had.

VMI is really struggling right now. I expect Liberty to be able to handle them in Lynchburg tomorrow.

VMI is struggling, but unless LU "holds the ball" and drains shot clock, I see lot of points being put on scoreboard.

Ball coach I just don't see it man. VMI hasn't got to 80 since the Liberty game about 6 weeks ago. After Okoye and Covington, the talent level goes down considerably. It isn't like in previous years when they would have 4 or 5 really good scorers. They only have 2. Plus not sure if Rodney Glassgow is going to play. Joe Carr is not as dynamic a point guard as Rodney so you lose some scoring punch there too.

I would be absolutely shocked if this is a really high scoring game like the Longwood game last Tuesday. That Longwood game was a statistical anamoly on so many levels including the last 2 min of the game when Liberty scored about 20 pts. Those kinds of things are so, so rare.

I hope you are right though. It is fun to see a high scoring, highly efficient offensive game.

Sorry,

they did get to the 90's vs Longwood a few weeks ago. I was at that game. But Longwood is not very good on D at ALL!!!

I also hope it's a high scoring game with both teams scoring over 80 points. I do not like those games in the 50s/60s.

If both teams get hot, I could see that happening. There should be a ton of possessions in this game.

VMI has only broken 90 twice since the calendar turned over to 2013...over/under on this one...145.5

After listening to the radio show last night, I see "draining of the shot clock" tonight. But I hope it's a high scoring game, at least in the 80s.

I like our offense. I have watched several games on TV this year and it seems we do best when driving to the basket. I was at the game Saturday and then traveled to watch UVA on Sunday. I dont' like UVA's style of play when it comes to draining the shot clock. I think we need to take the shot when open. We had 20 seconds left in regulation Saturday.MArshall took a three with 1.5 seconds left. Not saying that we wanted to give AP the ball back but we had no chance at a offensive rebound and put back. However with all that being said when playing a team like VMI we don't want to get in a run and gun shootout.

Out best offense is Marshall/Sanders shooting 3s, with Speaks driving to basket, and the "4" and "5" hitting the offensive boards. Draining shot clock then turning ball over or missing shot is like a "3 and out" in football. You get nothing out of possesion and opponent gets ball back

well spoken and thats the main reason I like a semi-fast paced offense. Also when draining the shot clock it hurts your chance of offense rebound in my opinion.

For whatever the reason many teams do not hit the offensive boards aggressively. I have noticed that when a shot is launched, most of teams immediately turn and get back on defense instead of going to the board. It appears that stopping the opponent's fast break, takes priority over offensive rebounds. this is especially true on outside shooting. I think 4 players should hit the boards and have a guard drop back to defend the break in case other team gets a defensive rebound.

There is some good news. We still have a chance at second place. If we win our next 2 games and Campbell loses against Longwood and Highpoint then we claim second in the North. I know its a big if but we can beat VMI and Radford.

Actually, if we do our part, I would not be surprised at all to see Campbell lose those 2 games.

Thatd be a big turnaround because as of right now we would be on a collision course with Coastal Carolina. If that scenario you describe plays out ludlp, we would have a first round bye and play the winner of UNCA-Longwood (if the season ended today)

That's is what Michigan St does and they have been pretty successful. However, I think most coaches feel that the risk and percentages of getting back to stop a fast break outweigh the possibility of getting an offensive rebound. I see both points. What I hate is seeing a player do neither. Either rebound or get back on D but don't just stand there

When a shot is launched, there is a 50% chance it will be missed, thus offensive team should hit the boards, box out and try for rebound. Have a guard drop back to defend break, have man closest to ball apply pressure before outlet pass can be made. I have sen this work in high school, think it will work in college. Don't conscede rebound to defensive team

I agree. One thing about "crashing the boards" is it puts you in good position to pressure the rebounder and force a bad pass and as it delays the fast break, other defenders get in the passing lanes as they retreat on the defensive end. The teams that don't send 3 or 4 to the boards are teams that don't have foot speed and/or the opposing team is much quicker than they are. VCU for instance. What seems to be missing on our team is weak side rebounding on the offensive end. We do a lot of standing around. Speaks at 6'4" playing the 3 has to be more involved on the offensive end in terms of getting a few offensive rebounds.

You need to be careful crashing that aggressively if the team you match up with likes to run and you shoot from the outside because (and PH or JK37 correct me if Im wrong in this) on your outside shots, the rebounds tend to go more toward the perimeter and if your rebounders are all going for the basket, leaves a pretty easy run out if the opposing team gets the board.

Leave it to tonight to be one of VMI's best shooting nights of the year and we cant hit a 3 if they put it two feet from the basket

Yeah but look at who we played. We were in the hole from the get go because they, VMI, have 3 initials and we, LU, only have 2. That right there is worth 5 or 6 points. Their school has been around a lot longer than we have, so they have a more established tradition. they had Stonewall Jackson. Plus, our guys were playing for second place and that's a lot of pressure. But in the end we were only 8-12 possessions from pulling this out.
