Regardless of how this pans out, I will always be grateful for the excellent job JB has done at LU. I believe that the wild card may be the potential of each school. I don't see much upside for ECU in the long term, they will always live in the shadows of the ACC schools. They can and will get better, but they have reached 90% of their potential. LU still has lots of potential and the Administration has proven that the sports program will remain a priority. Bottom line is we have a lot to be thankful for.

I don't want to debate on which stadium is better, there's looks a little bigger. But I do want to say they got taken if they paid over twice as much as we did for ours. The site where our new place sits was literally a giant hillside/ravine. They moved truckloads of Candlers Mountain for months until they had a flat area to even start building. If we did all that for 5 million, I can't imagine what we could have got for 11.5. An identical one right beside it, apparently.

Ask any player, what is more important to him:

1. Having a seating capacity of 3,000 (half of which are bleacher seats) as does East Carolina vs. only 2,500 (all chair backs) here.

2. Having your own weight room inside your stadium right next to your clubhouse, vs not having a weight room inside said clubhouse.



Then ask the same question to recruits. Case closed.

My first reaction to East Carolina’s decision to use a large search committee to identify the school’s next athletics director wasn’t a good one.

Truthfully, that position hasn’t changed.

Anytime a school assembles an oversized group of individuals to guide critical hiring decisions, individual agendas have more potential to interfere with the process. That naturally can lead to contentious discussions that ultimately culminate with the selection of a compromise candidate that appeases all sides.

We’ve seen it before at ECU. But hopefully not again.

Yeah, because we all know athletes care about whether the crowd can sit comfortably or not.

Other than that comment, honestly I agree with you that Liberty isn't much different than East Carolina. As far as facilities.

LU stadium smaller, but, in my opinion, looks to be nicer than ECU's. Of course, they best us by 500 seats, but they do have close to double the student population- around 24,000. What has SJ been drinking?

You can look up all the stats online, but they don't tell the whole story. ECU has 3000 seats. They also have areas in right and left field dedicated to standing room only where people can tailgate during the game. It leads to an amazing atmosphere. ECU's park/atmosphere is top 25 in the country.

No way. Liberty is amazing. Probably the best ever. Nobody in their right mind would ever think of leaving Liberty unless its to a top SEC program. Even then we will surpass those programs in 5 years so it would be crazy for them to leave.....

I don't see how anyone can logically believe they can know what situation is best for another person, especially someone they don't know personally. The whole argument about which stadium is better is irrelevant. All that matters to Mr. Barber is what he feels is best for him and his family. Besides, he is not the only good candidate for the position. He may never even have a decision to make.

I'll give the atmosphere to ECU. I dont think we'll beat it. Facility, I'd still vote for LU. Not a baseball fan, but I think LU's looks nicer... and LU has the added advantage of having better surrounding scenery.
On the subject of AD, JB would be wise to go to ECU if he wants to end up at an SEC/ACC/ etc. school.
It really depends on an offer and what he sees as his end goal. Jeff is one of the nicest and most approachable guys I've ever met in any level of administration or athletics.

I am happy that you agree with me....but scenery? C'mon man!! We have a weight room in our new baseball stadium. A baseball only weight room. And we're talking about scenery? Think of the implications of baseball having it's own weight room...no more sharing with other sports and so forth. There is a reason why every football team in the country who wants to actually be somebody has a football only weight room.

ECU having 500 more seats than us can hardly be the straw that makes their stadium better than ours. 500 more seats is a non-issue when looking at what we have to offer above and beyond. Suites in the plural, weight room, training room, more batting cages, etc.

I'll take that over 500 oddly placed bleacher seats any day of the week. Those seats above the third base line look like a badly placed garage on a house that shouldn't have one.

Logic, youd be surprised how much the surrounding area can have as well as the gameday experience. Having the weight room is nice and what not but if the experience while youre at the stadium sucks, once the "ohh, shiny new toy" feeling wears off, people aren't going to give a flying hoot about whether or not the stadium has a baseball only weight room, or indoor batting tunnels or any of the bells and whistles.

Yeah, because a weight room ads so much to the game day experience. Lets see a bunch of people hanging out in the outfield enjoying themselves or a weight room? Which is more cogent to a player enjoying their career......hmmm

I'm now married, so I'm not making this comment for me. However, were I a young 18 - 20 yr. old again, I don't know that I'd necessarily mind sharing a weight room with the cheer squad... Some might even view it as an added perk...
