If you told me that we'd come out 1-2 this wkend I'd take it but you can't help but be disappointed with the missed opportunities. Should have won 2, could have swept it. But I love that we didnt give up and got game 3.

Couple notes for the series;

We got absolutley nothign from Close and not much from Grauer, they can't hit any worse than this weekend

Richardson should be the closer, end of story

We have a ton of arms that we can use, that's why it's inexcusable for Toman to let these pitchers go too far when they are struggling.

We should have won 2 out of 3. I won't say we should have swept because the guys we did throw walked way too many guys. However, we didn't capitalize on the errors they made in the first 2 games.

Am I a terrible fan for not being happy with one win against SC? We were better than them this weekend. They're better overall but we were better this weekend. Our program is past being happy with one win on the weekend. Toman has recruited the talent so that we are good enough to expect one win. We met expectations (look, a complement). We crapped away a chance at a statement.

Im not going to Toman bash because at the end of last season i said i was done with him. He is the coach and does not appear to be going anywhere soon. We should have won two games in this series but a very good showing against a top team. Our starting pitching though not overpowering was effective and alex will rebound from a tough start. The team showed they could fight back after that heartbreaker and i think we have a chance to be really good. On to Radford Tuesday!

We went toe to toe this wkend with the best college baseball program in the country. We came up on the losing side which isn't good but let's not act like Toman isn't taking the program forward. Can you imagine us putting up a similar performance in football? Or basketball? We would laugh at someone for even suggesting it.

I don't know Toman at all but and it sounds like some of you have legitimate beef with him but all I can see is a coach who brings in great talent consistently. None of the other sports that matter can do the same. Eventually the talent wins out and I'm excited to see what he can do now that he has decent facilities.

for one, good to see them take one of 3 but no doubt they outplayed them this whole series. should've taken 2, possible sweep but should've, would've, could've. This is definitely a top 25 ball club.

btw anyone see that Justin Morhardt transferred in from ORU? he was projected to go 1st-3rd round last year in the draft but wanted to play college so he got picked 39th.

Toman is a great recruiter, and he does bring in talent. The problem is, where are the wins? Oh yes, we win a fair amount a games, and we compete, and beat teams at the highest level, but then we lose head-scratching games that keep us out of the NCAA Tournament. The 7-0 game we lost to SC an example, although in fairness, they probably wouldn't have been had we just generically lost.

It's baseball. I know every day, someone can be upset, it's not played the same way as basketball and football are. But there's a clear path in my mind to what this team can be, versus what it is. The talent is there. What's holding us back? It seems evident. Baseball is a game of philosophy.

Last year, we were out to a great start. Then we lost to teams like Bryant, lose a series to UNCA and could never get over the hump with Coastal. It's true he brings in talent, but it seems we can never get to that next level.

Jbock mentioned what I was thinking, too: most of us came in okay with getting one win. But when we lose the way we did (example: losing 7-0 lead), expectations change.

I'm not sure what to make of that.

No one is happy with one win but to act like any old coach can recruit talent to compete with the best shouldn't be overlooked. We haven't had the schedule to compete to get an at large in the past. This year we do.

Any guesses on the mid-week starter. Kody Young made several mid week starts last year and looked OK. Keep hearing a lot about Parks and Mckelvey and their velocity. Of course Grant didn't throw this weekend either. Also juco Fulgham didn't pitch this weekend. I'd bet Kody Young gets the one of the mid-week jobs then 1 of the other 3 nails down the other job.

Another guy that let is down in both appearances was Bankemper, kid was nails last year for us. Thinking back he struggled his first couple appearances then was lights out.

Read up on Morhardt, sounds like he has a high ceiling, can he even play this semester?

Justin Gunn apparently played at Washington as well before coming to LU?

and I work next door to the university of South Carolina. I am a Liberty graduate and there is no doubt that the team had a shot to sweep the Gamecocks. If you would have asked most flames fans would they take a win over #5 Gamecocks I think most of us would have been happy with that. This can be a special season for the baseball team. Lets get ready for Penn State. GO FLAMES!!!

No one with a brain will say anything other than Toman is one of the best recruiters in the country. That's always been his reputation, even before he got to Liberty. His issue is managing games and managing players.
