Long term, I like the WAC better than the Sun Belt because it would include regional rivals JMU and Appy.
But...but.....we don't care about regional rivals......at least that's what I've heard.....

The biggest advatage would be not having to put up with the Sunbelt posters. Some of those guys are relentless. Sly you put up a good arguement over there, but I don't think you're ever going to change any minds. I also like the WAC-E leauge the best. Playing SENW state from the belt doesn't excite me.

And how do we join a conference that doesn't even exist anymore? And why?

In answer to your question, the WAC still does exist but doesn't sponsor football. Under NCAA by-laws, they could sponsor FBS football again with enough members (something no current FCS league is allowed to do). So why we would join the WAC is to have access to the FBS golden ticket while it is still available should the NCAA institute another moratorium that would trap us at the FCS level for perhaps another decade. The only way any of this would work is if the current WAC were to stack enough non-football members out west to keep the conference alive and then bring in a bunch of eastern football schools with very limited cross-divisional play until conference tournaments.

The odds of us joining the WAC are very low but it remains something simmering in the recesses of everyone's minds.

In Sly's defense (...not like he needs any :D ), the WAC has started to expand eastward with Chicago St and UMKC. Plus, Hurd has not officially ruled out the WAC having football in the near future (2014, 2015).

I know it's a longshot. However, given the list of eligible FCS teams that has ciculated on App State's website, I suspect the WAC with first ask the usual suspects again (Montana, Montana St., E. Washington, Cal-Poly, ect.) and if they're denied, they might possibly revisit the "Eastern" plan again. Like I said, I know it's a longshot. However, if their is a memorandum on the horizon to halt FBS expansion for several years, I suspect the schools with FBS aspirations will put their foot on the pedal again to jump-start their programs.

Who could be on the WAC's list if the Sun Belt expands with App St and GSU as expected?

Liberty
Youngstown St
Illinois State
Southern Illinois
Jacksonville State
Lamar
Missouri State
Northern Iowa
North Dakota St.
Sam Houston State
UT Chattanooga

*I didn't bother to include Delaware, Villanova, Richmond, JMU, Towson, etc. As far as I'm concerned its either the MAC, the nBE, or bust for all of them.

UMKC to WAC
Yesterday, Missouri-Kansas City shocked the mid majors when the announced that they were leaving the 'stable' Summit Conference for the decimated WAC.

This seemingly crazy move combined with a tweet from the Chicago State University (new WAC team) Athletic Director stating, "You have not seen anything yet" has people wondering what is about to happen.

UDenver joined the WAC, but after 5 teams bolted they decided the join the Summit next year. Does change their mind?

This is great news here!!!
Agreed. Glad to that something proposed at least 13 years ago is finally coming to fruition!

Someone please get a screen shot of this. Also, can someone with media experience explain how this is different than our current FSN programming?

Surely. But the sarcasm was aimed at higher ups, not a lowly student who is/was thrilled that he and the incredible Oz had finally agreed.

I have no details about the new network and even less about the outfit that will be running it.

On a completely unrelated note, some yahoo on the NM State board is claiming that he has information that they are about to accept an invitation to the Sun Belt Conference:

Yeah, it could be just wishful thinking or there could be some truth to the matter.

This. The fact that we see ourselves this way and the fact that others see us this way as well is very disconcerting.

IM no NCAA expert, that's for sure. I've learned a lot here, from you guys ... thank you.

I just don't buy into the FBS 10 year freeze stuff and the big need to beg for an invite. I think if you meet title IX, you have the facilities and MOST importantly you have deep pockets and a willingness to put the money on the NCAA table you will get your invite. I think the only thing delaying an announcement about where we land is the major realignment of existing FBS teams playing out right now. Once that's over who ever meets "all of the above" will be in.
