Yeah, the airport dropped from 35 to 31 in 30 minutes. Now we're on track!

At the top of the mountain, we have an inch and a half on our sidewalk. We went to wards road to eat at 5 PM sharp. It was raining until about 5:15. When we left at 5:30, the parking lot was already covered. An idiot in a sports car was spinning out driving up Candler's Mtn. SOMEONE CALL OUT THE NATIONAL GUARD!

I just saw lightning and then heard the longest thunder roll in history. I don't even know what's going on anymore.

Thundersnow. Yes it does happen. It's just like a summer thunderstorm. It's just not actually summer. When the dynamics in the atmosphere start doing, it can happen just like any other day.

Okay now the big question... how bad did my forecast bust for LYH? Maybe I should just stick to doing my own home town...

It has let up significantly here, south of the airport. We have about 2 inches of slop. Had to go get the kids from work around 7. From 7:15 to 7:45 was mostly rain coming down.

Yes. I'll write more over in the other thread.

The real bust was elsewhere however. Charlottesville was expected to end up with 4-8. They ended up with nothing.

And it's over. Maybe 3 inches here. I still have pools of water in my yard though.

The storm blew up... and then it sort of just fizzled out and got pushed off the coast for some odd reason. North Carolina and Southside ended up as big busts as well. Looked real good until about 6PM. Oh well.

Why the disappointment?!? The less snow, the better I say. And lucky for you we didn't get much, I missed you in the driveway this morning.

Weren't they predicting 3-6 inches? And we got 3? Sounds like Lynchburg weather, so I'm not sure why everyone is so disappointed. I'm happy with 3 inches of snow and a 3-hour delay at work. :)

I figured with two inches you could just do it yourself 8)

CJ, true, but this storm certainly didn't live up to what the models had shown. The models showed around a foot, and I wasn't willing to go that high but ending up with three inches, and raining until 5pm was certainly not in the plan.

I ended up with 5.1.

What a weird storm. My house, and Liberty, look exactly the same. And in about a 500 foot difference between Montvale and Thaxton, you go from 3-4 inches of snow, to absolutely no snow. Then, from Bedford City to Goode, not much. Finally at Goode, the snow makes its presence again. Amazing.

Landing in Norfolk last night in this mess was fun. Strong winds and snow as we began out descent made it very turbulent until about 500 feet above the ground when the winds died down and it was just rain.

Well, looks as if we might be doing this again next Friday... I'll post as things get closer. Even though nobody probably cares.

ATrain, it's an amazing thing some times when you're just a matter of 1000 feet from a major winter storm. I've seen this flying out of Roanoke during clipper events. Nothing at the airport, but once you climb to 3000 feet it looks like a blizzard.

Models are trending drier, but I think 2-4 is an excellent first guess.
