:BS This thread has never strayed off topic!m :D

There is no news. There has never been any news. This is just a place to come and blow off steam for those who are chomping at the bit to move to FBS. Therefore, ANY movement is seen as a legitimate opening for us to make that move.

I suspect there will be some fresh material to discuss following today's nBE meeting in Dallas. It could give us a better idea of what is hapening on the nBE & MWC fronts.

Some rumors on the Sun belt board that the new additions will be GA Southern and Sam Houston State. Why Appy would be left out is really puzzling. These are just rumors, but it appears two different posters are saying the same thing.

Liberty has an airport. App has one 40 miles down the mountain.

Liberty and it's not even close. Ever been to Boone? It's a beautiful town, but it's not as easily accessible as Lynchburg.

Hickory's Airport is closed to commerical airlines, has been for years. Teams would have to fly into Charlotte, about an hour away.

Yes I'm aware of that, I meant airline charters as well. But you're correct.

Let's say Montana playing at App State. That's one game, in one sport. But imagine that extra travel cost for all teams?

Oh and I beat Ohio State as a 15 seed in the first round. But nobody cares.

Charters do fly in and out of Hickory, however. App State has done this in recent years.

I wouldn't exactly call the football in the Big East dead based on this unsurprising development. The buzz the past few days is that many in the league were indifferent about whether they stayed or left. Obviously they were a major outlier even though they allowed the league to consider themselves a national conference from sea-to-shining sea.

The Big east needs to get the details of split with the Catholic 7 worked out so they can nail down a new TV deal. I suspect that the SDSU move mean that a CUSA team or two will be moving up to fill the gap. Most of the speculation seems to be focused on Tulsa, Rice, Southern Miss & UMass. Rice is probably a fallback plan in Houston decides to head west to the MWC. Frankly I don't see that happening unless the Big East falls apart with the departure of UConn & Cincy.

If the Big East calls up a couple of CUSA teams, then you can expect Conference USA to call up a couple more Sun Belt members like Western Kentucky, Louisiana-Lafayette or maybe even Texas State or Georgia State.

That would obviously be of keen interest to those of us looking for an FBS invitation.

It appears that MTSU & Florida Atlantic are going to be able to move to CUSA this summer instead of waiting another year based on speculation on Twitter.

This obviously leads to speculation that potentially East Carolina & Tulane might also be able to join the New Big East this fall as well. This might push up the Sun Belt time-table. Do you know any schools that might be willing & able to jump right away this fall?

bluedevilflame - ECU seems a lock for a full invitation. Navy has never expressed an interest in anything more than football. They like it just fine playing in the much less competitive Patriot League. Navy is the source of much speculation that they might stick with their Big East plans based on the all of the recent developments.

Confirmation concerning FAU and MTSU....

FAU & Middle Tennessee leaving Sun Belt year early, will join C-USA this fall, sources told @espn

Conference USA adding two teams

Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee State will leave the Sun Belt and join Conference USA on July 1, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Both schools were not scheduled to leave the Sun Belt until 2014, but are leaving early for C-USA. The addition of FAU and Middle Tennessee will give C-USA 14 football members in 2013...

It's unlikely that East Carolina and Tulane could leave C-USA and join the Big East this fall. On Friday, the Big East announced football opponents for a 10-team schedule, not including ECU and Tulane...

Well, Maryland finally went public with their battle with the ACC to exit to the B1G ...

Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany, left, speaks with University of Maryland football head coach Randy Edsall after a news conference annoucing Maryland's decision to join the Big Ten Conference on Nov. 19, 2012 in College Park, Maryland.

The University of Maryland filed a lawsuit against the Atlantic Coast Conference after the college football association sued to force the school to pay $52.3 million in exit fees for leaving the group.

The college claims in a lawsuit filed in Prince George’s County Circuit Court in Maryland that the exit penalty is a violation of antitrust law, state Attorney General Douglas Gansler said today in a statement. Maryland also seeks to dismiss the ACC’s lawsuit in state court in North Carolina.

“Our lawsuit calls the ACC’s ‘exit fee’ what it really is -- an antitrust violation and an illegal activity,” Gansler said in the statement. “Our motion in North Carolina will ensure that a Maryland court will rule on the case.”

If the Terps win this legal battle, the floodgates could fly open and the ACC will be cannibalized by the SEC, B1G & Big XII.
