If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

Quite a few of our programs are ready for the Big East now. Those that aren't need to pick up the pace.

Baseball is ready, comp. disagree with that statement. Football and Basketball are not. If baseball doesn't matter we are wasting a lot of money right now. I realize it's a distant 3rd but it is 3rd

Why not? They're 5-2 against St. John's in recent seasons and 1-0 against Rutgers. The Big East is nothing special in baseball and we've done well against arguably the best team in the conference (St. John's).

Totally agree with NAJ. SJU is the best program in the big east and we should have won all the games against them. Big East programs are not good at all

Jinxy hit the nail on the head. "Should have won." We won't be ready under our current setup. We can't win big games or games that matter.

5-2 in the games we "should have won" against St. John's. That doesn't support your position at all.

We should have won them. Exactly. They weren't big games or important games with something on the line. In those games, we aren't very good. Take a look at the 17 straight losses to Coastal, the head scratching losses to UNCA, the losses to HPU and GWU in the Big South Tournament, etc. We can beat good teams early in the season (except Mercer) and in meaningless mid-week games, but not at the end of the season when it matters.

Your point is well made Jon...I know that its not the exact same situation but there was a lot of grumbling (still is really) about Coach Green and not winning big games (especially in the NCAA tournament) but then we got that run in 2005. I'm sure that this year will be watched closely with the new stadium and what not

Using losses to Coastal as justification for non Big East readiness is stretching it quite a bit.

Coastal >>>>> Big East

Considering they are head and shoulders better than anyone in the Big East...just sayin. Losing to them has nothing to do with Big East readiness.

You can name the programs. You don't need my help.

Baseball has lower average NCAA Tournament attendance than lacrosse.

Attendance is a decent point, but I'd argue we've shown we can compete with anyone in Baseball. The real question is, what about our other sports? Men's basketball?

(yes, I realize I asked an obvious question)

^what has that have to do with anything?. Doesn't generate the $$$ as does Baseball.

Baseball can compete with anyone and is ready now. Elite hs talent is starting to camp now from what i heard compared to years past. If you want to talk about other sports. Only Golf, Cross Country, and Track and Field and maybe Volleyball can compete. all the other sports would fail.

Disagree. A few more could, for sure.

This.

If you read the article on ESPN about Boise State staying, SDSU is about to be on its hands and knees begging for forgiveness to stay in the Mountain West. In addition, they also talked about adding SMU, Houston, Tulsa and UTEP. Navy is also reconsidering the Big East.

So, hypothetically speaking, lets say the MWC adds those four schools. That means C-USA loses two more schools.

What you have left is a football/all sports conference of Tulane, Memphis, UConn, Temple, East Carolina (assuming they'll get the all sports invite), UCF, USF, Cincinnati. What are the chances that C-USA takes back one or more of: Tulane, Memphis, East Carolina and UCF to maintain their number or increase to 14/16 schools? Or what are the chances that the more southern nBE schools suddenly clamor of SunBelt invites?

That leaves you with UConn, Temple, Cinncinati and USF. In order to be a conference, they'll need new members, but who is going to join THAT group considering UConn and Cincinnati have wet dreams over joining the ACC?

Since when does winning your conference or making the playoffs have anything to do with moving up in football or being added to a conference?

It doesn't.

The Big East is not dead. It will never be what it was, but it is not dead.

It seems like we've been going in a cycle of saying the same thing over and over in this thread. Then once everything gets settled down, somebody will say something about how we've done nothing where we are now and then the cycle resumes. Not to mention all of the conferences that we've proclaimed "dead".

I don't get the short-sighted rejoicing by the ACC-types of the "death" of the Big East. Why exactly is that a good thing? We're losing something trememdously significant in college sports. That's bad.
