I tell you, this Cajun guy is brilliant! We haven't had this level of intelligence on the board since Prof. Fumble passed away.

I would like a clarification on 'Big Time'. Are we saying ANY FBS school or just the BCS Auto qualifiers?

If you are saying AQ qualifying conference ill agree. If you aren't then I disagree.

They deserve it. They're playing like castrated turkeys right now. (See what I did there?)

I love Bobby Knight. I don't care what anyone else says. I never thought he'd make it as a commentator but sure enough it's worked out great for him.

He's such a great teacher he's able to get his knowledge across in an effective manner. I just wish he dropped more swear words!

Let's put aside WVU for a second, because they are not going to move from the BIG 12 to the Big East, among the teams that could move only East Carolina is a more quality opponent than Marshall.

and since you are a WVU fan, jbock, I will refrain from reminding you what LSU and the honey badger did last year.

But a great move would be to the B1G or the ACC. I think the Big 12 move was a colossal mistake.

I don't think there was any other place to go. The Big 10 didn't want them, the ACC didn't want them, the Big East, who knows.

Cajun, only because Jerrott Lee started that game! 8)

They did, and he was suspended for the Aubrun game. Pitiful.

Yep. Moonshine isn't a banned substance so WVU is all good!

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE EDITORIAL: Sun Belt gave MTSU no choice but to leave

http://www.dnj.com/article/20121209/OPINION01/312090025
MTSU President James Walker pushed for football stadium expansion and the move to Division I-A in the mid-’90s. The results of his vision can be seen across campus with projects such as the Walker Library, Student Union Building and science building project, which is expected to be among the nation’s best.

Moving to Conference USA is a logical step in MTSU’s progression: from a normal school to state college to nationally recognized university. It joins schools in C-USA such as Rice and UAB, which have some of the country’s top doctoral and medical programs.

I have always loved MTSU's basketball facilities. Moving to C-USA will help them tremendously as they try to compete with the SEC schools in the State. Money could be an issue down the road for them. Not sure if it could parallel us or not.

I posted this in the stadium expansion thread but felt it should be here as well. It is in response to comments Jerry Jr. made about the stadium and a question about FBS expansion in the near future.

Also, a very interesting comment on CONFERENCE expansion. He was asked and said.....and I want to quote him because it is very fascinating........"We're still talking to a conference we have been talking to for a while, but it is not ideal."

What does he mean? Obviously he is talking about an FBS conference because he was not asked about a lateral move it was specific to FBS. So, which conference is this? Sun Belt? If so what is not ideal about it? Are they asking for too many stipulations? Would we have to drop some of our collegiate sports offerings?

There is a lot that can be inferred by this one statement but at face value all we can learn is that, we have been in talks with an FBS conference and it is not an ideal situation for the university or its sports.

I have no direct knowledge but I wonder if the WAC-East concept is not completely dead. That would certainly fit the description.

Sly, I think you're right... the interview comes back to his "ideal" statement and at 4:23 to 4:35 he says that we'd hate to have to travel out West... but then he says "it could happen". It sounds like we'd be able to take that route if we wanted to but that with the other movement going on with CUSA and SB... we may be hanging tight a little longer in favor of one of those options. WAC only has 6 schools right now so they'd have the most room. It sounds like we're being patient for the rest of the dominos to fall our way.

The WAC has been dead since before this interview and if that is the conference we are in talks with....NO THANKS! I am not saying you are wrong, because it makes quite a bit of sense that this would not be ideal(Not just because of the travel costs) but I would think that if the WAC was serious about staying an FBS conference they would have sent enough offers to schools to stay FBS eligible.

I figured the "not ideal" conf he referred to might be the Sun Belt .... but WAC makes since also. I was hoping the rumor I heard from friend and big ECU donor ... about us talking with C-USA might be on the table. Would be a big jump, but if ODU can do it so could we?

C-USA would be ideal from a bowl standpoint as they have 6 tie-ins, next would be MAC with 4. The Sun Belt, strictly on a bowl tie in level would be the least ideal as you basically have to win the conference or be highly ranked to get into a bowl and make some money for the school, which is then divvied up to all other schools in the socialist euphoria that is the NCAA.
