We all play the tough guy role and say we aren't sorry, that we're politically incorrect and what not since 1971...how does staying in the Big South feel? Is it worth it? I don't know about you, but I would trade some of the political nonsense over the years for an FBS invite in 2012.

If leaving the Big South means compromising our core beliefs and principles, than we should stay where we are. I'm not talking about the politics. Because our faith is offensive to many. And I don't care who it offends.

I know some people say stupid things in positions at Liberty about social issues or politics. Or fall in love with Newt Gingrich. But I do not apologize for believing God's Word is true, inerrant Scripture. I do not apologize for believing God is the creator of the universe and Jesus is His Son. See, that's offensive to the so-called enlightened progressive marxist land of academia. But I don't apologize. And we shouldn't apologize for it either.

My guess is that class is "cake" on campus, too. The difference is a campus student is forced to spread it out over 3 days a week and an online student working a full time job, doing ministry, and taking care of a family is forced to squeeze it in on weekend or after the kids go to bed.

Wheaton and Grove City are both are highly regarded Evangelical schools, don't see why Liberty can't adapt there approach on Education/Politics.

This is possible, I won't discount that. But I'm getting tired of the faux-standards for an athletic conference. What does politics have to do with 2 football teams playing each other? Why does the ACC look down on Louisville for their academics when they just want to play sports against them? I'm just tired of the whole pretending to be above what this is actually about: money and to a lesser extent, entertainment. If they think of us as a villain, fine. People love to hate villains. It's ridiculous to think someone would look down on your school because it's in a conference with Controversy U. In fact, I would think like-minded people would back your school if they don't have a dog in the fight. To not take us for any other reason than you don't think we'll make good athletic sense for you, is to pretend you're living in a bizzaro dimension.

Too man people in the school love to have their face all over TV whenever possible. I can almost guarantee that out political past is going to get the better of us in realignment.

While there are some things that we would probably do differently given the opportunity, the past is the past and nothing we can do will change that. However, to think that if we change our position(s) on issues, it will somehow change the mind of those that hate us already, is folly. It's kinda like the Republican Party trying to make friends with the media, it isn't going to happen no matter what they do or how they try to change their stance on any position.
That being said, I have full confidence in the current administration and I am sure they are doing what they think is best. Some people will never like us, so be it. I am sure that we will get an invite soon. If we don't because someone doesn't like where we are on certain things, then do we really want to be associated with them? Obviously they are not very tolerant of others.

^agreed. Liberty hasn't brought down or stop research at national ranked universities like Stony Brook and VMI. Pretty sure High Point is moving up in the rankings as well. Same with Liberty as well the matter of fact (forbes and us news). It's all bs. alot of people will believe the lies spewed by the likes or Bill Maher.

This is why I referenced "stupid things", and Newt Gingrich. I agree, the politics can be irritating, especially when 80% of the body at least is Republican. But I'm referring more to our mission and our statement of Biblical values.

But to be honest, it doesn't outrage me that much. Yes they go overboard for my personal taste, but it's hardly different than any state secular college anyone can point to. Although, fair enough, two wrongs don't make a right.

I went back and read thru the head coach search threadhttps://www.flamefans.com/forums/viewto ... head+coach (sly called it on the first page, btw) to figure out how we got the scoop on gill so quick. two thing stood out to me: reading between the lines of jeff barber's statement about wanting a coach with fbs experience, and chris lang noticing/ tweeting about a chartered flight from lynchburg to larwence kansas.

This board brings a smile to my face. Every few months a few 'Chicken Littles' come out of the woodwork and talk about how bad things are and all of the overhauls that must be made.

The reality is that nothing our leadership has ever said on TV is worse than what was done at Penn State... or SMU... I'm tired of hearing how offensive we've been to people who laugh at us purely for believing in God. Please understand this. It's not about much else. The guys on the SB board run their mouth about our belief in creation. They simply deny and laugh at an educational institution believing and teaching anything apart from pure evolution. For these people it is ultimately about our belief in God. It's that simple.

The beautiful thing about all of this is... we control our future. If we build a product that people have to respect... they don't have to like us.... but they will want us. If we fill the campus with quality students, expand online enrollment around the nation, build up our on-campus facilities and develop our fan base through marketing and media... we'll be wanted.

I'd love for fans of other conferences to love us but they never will. That's not their job. Once we land in a conference they will spend their time harassing our players... not all fans... but the types of people spewing venom on boards. I frankly don't care what people think about our science curriculum and I feel extremely comfortable with the education Liberty provides. I have NEVER been in a room where I felt inadequate to hold my own on any given topic. My experience with LU was that I was provided both sides of the coin. I know what the secular college teaches AND I know how my Christian worldview applies to each situation. If anything I feel our education is much more broad because of our faith component.

As to the politics... I don't always agree but I don't want LU to stop. For every comment that comes out of LU in support of a Republican I can find you 20 comments from liberal professors in the exact opposite direction. To believe the left doesn't have flame throwers (no pun intended) would be beyond naive. Turn on a cable TV show and look at the occupation of half of the commentators.

Take a deep breath and relax. LU will find a home and my expectation is that Sun Belt won't be our final stop. It may not even be our first stop. I'd rather be passed on for a year or two and land in a bigger pond than go now if it means any compromise on who we are. For the record, I don't want us to be Wheaton or Grove City... I want us to be Liberty University... warts and all.

Nothing could be further from the truth. God #1, as always. No one is suggesting we fundamentally change the university. But tell me, friends, how do we benefit from aligning so closely and so publicly with the Republican Party? We're essentially cutting our prospective student and parent recruiting base in half. We might also be keen to realizing that political conservatives are the minority in this country and with the changing demographics I don't see that reversing any time soon, if ever.

I'm not saying change the university. I am saying maybe we would be FBS right now had we had toned down the political rhetoric over the years. Open your eyes, the Republican Party today is hardly conservative and freedom loving. Tell me about Bush deficit spending and the patriot act. Awful.

I agree with SJ. Just so he will cringe when he reads that.

Anyone who has taken LUO classes knows they are always easier than on campus ones. There's also an added benefit to finishing things whenever you want to. I was usually done with all five classes in two days, which left me five days just to goof around.

Now, I'm not saying they aren't beneficial to people who have jobs and can't afford to move to college. They were beneficial. But let's not get carried away. One discussion board is about Jesus, and we just recite some line we heard in sunday school.

I agree LUO classes are easier than on campus, but Southern New Hampshire has perhaps the easiest way to a degree I've ever seen. My old roomie is in the Navy, and reading some of his papers that he submitted that got A's...eesh.
