Simply suspend with pay. Clear the direction forward and return..if you are deemed that valuable. But to hope it never surfaces, then when it does go into CYA mode is too be questioned. Crime was committed and plead guilty to.

I am not comfortable with sharing all of the details because it wouldn't be appropriate. But I know for a fact that the reason he chose to plead guilty is because he wanted to take responsibility for his momentary lack of judgement. He is genuinely contrite and the school has been completely in the loop all along.

This is a prescription situation and frankly it is about as benign a situation as you could possibly conjure up given hours. He did something wrong for which he should be punished. But there is absolutely nothing nefarious about the crime.
Let he who is without felony cast the first stone :D

At most schools, actually about all of them, if you get a misdemeanor DUI and your a coach, you get canned! (Unless your'e Big Time Hall of Fame guy)

But at LU, if you get a Felony you get to keep playing football and coach the basketball team!

The reputation of the "worlds' most exciting University" keeps getting better!

No one on this board should ever rip Coastal or Winthrop or High Point or any school when there guys get in trouble.

making a photocopy of your prescription should not be a felony. he didn't even get a ruling, and after a year of probation the charge will be dismissed. this is as benign as we could have hoped for.

fair enough. i guess i didn't really think about that.

it just seems weird that someone can get a felony charge when it can be solved as easily as asking your doctor "hey, this medicine is not as effective as it used to be. help?"

+1. Now we classify the felony. He pleaded guilty and lost his driver's license...obviously the court doesn't consult us on FF to redefine the law. As with most first time offenders he will be given an avenue to remove the Felony from his record, but as of yesterday he pleaded guilty to a felony. Certainly we all have sinned and fall short, but there is a high road to take here in bringing restitution.

Well, at least we can all agree what legally should have happened, happened.

What happens outside of that is up to the school. And because it's a private school, they're allowed to discern severity of the situation and respond with what they feel is appropriate action. I realize that a felony is a greater crime than a misdemeanor in the eyes of the law, but do you actually believe this crime is worse than a DUI, bsk? I agree with you though, we certainly don't have any room to talk about arrests and other schools. Although we probably will.

Do you think your "lowly" academic secretary gets to keep her job or doesn't suffer some sort of punishment if she pleads guilty to a felony? You're dreaming if you believe that. Just another case of a school having double standards for athletics...

Im sure action is being taken and its not like they have to post it up here or release a statement just because a bunch of folks on a message board want them to or something

Yea why should a university answer to people that invested tens of thousands of dollars into it? This is a joke and every time something goes wrong its a joke at Liberty. They try to control the message and have advocates like some on this board. This is a university of higher learning and when something like this happens people deserve to know what's going on and what action needs to be taken. I have a degree from two LUs and my sister was a student athlete, I'm not happy with the way Liberty operates like a communist state in terms of their public relations.

Take your fingers out of your ears, put the kool-aid down, and ask for some accountability from the university. Everyone with any tie to Liberty should feel embarrassed by this and the way it was handled by the university. And its not like this is an isolate incident. More than once Liberty has been caught up in incidents where the "cover up" or lack of response is way worse than the actual action. Yes, people make mistakes, but when it comes to a university of higher learning and molding young minds accountability should reign supreme.

i think there are far more egregious examples of that happening than this situation. by their track record, this is actually pretty tame as far as PR mistakes go.

I understand that, but the way the story blossomed was a perfect example. FlamesNation ran it and respectfully waited for the proper time to post it. There was no agenda behind the post, merely relaying news that is public knowledge and presenting facts that people invest in Liberty's athletic program should know. How did Liberty react? With a senior administrator and the university twitter feed posting "FlamesNaton SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED" in multiple tweets. That reaction is childish, embarrassing, and unprofessional. Your ostracizing people who love and support your university and at the same time making a bigger story out of a story that likely wouldn't have received as much attention if you didn't react. PR is getting out in front of an issue in the most viable way, instead Liberty reads, reacts, attacks, and covers up.

Can someone please explain to me why this guy has not been FIRED yet??? It's pretty simple... fire the guy for having a FELONY on his permanent record... OR... alternatively, fire the guy for poor performance. Has the team even won a game yet? The Sagarin ratings have us ranked as the 329th best team in D 1? Thats 329 out of a possible 347. The New Jersey Institute of Technology is ranked 304... I didnt even know they fielded a team. And this guy is a pivotal part of our program?? I give Dale Layer credit for being the longest tenured "interim" coach. This guy was supposed to be a stop gap... and he's on what year 3?

As a donor, this upsets me very much, to see this is how my money is being spent. Now I question the credibility of Layer as well as Barber. And they will be getting a nasty phone call from me on Monday.

For those of you who are trying to downplay this whole thing. You guys are all either nuts, or are misinformed. This guy now has a permanent record... I dont care, if it may be removed after a year... its a permanent record. As mentioned earlier... ANY student... and i repeat... ANY student that pulled this would've gotten the boot SO FAST.

Here is what you guys do not know from reading that article. The prosecution sat down with Eaker prior to the hearing, just as they do with every case. They laid on X Y and Z... and said, look we have this against you, and if you take this to trial, you're going to recieve the harshest of punishments. Or you can not waste our time, and plead guilty, because everyone in the room knows your guilty.

Every one of you that try to justify this are hypocrites. Its pretty freakin simple to get a stronger prescription of adderol. For all you guys know, he could be selling it to others.

Lastly, do us all a favor... we're not big south football champions. Conference champions go to the playoffs...

It may sound like I'm hating on the program, but again, as a donor... this is very upsetting.

BJ must be taking the day off. He sent me a private message this morning about this thread. I sent him the following reply and told him earlier this evening that he was welcome to post this message publicly:

Hey BJ. Just saw [your message]. Jason Eaker was placed on administrative leave this morning. We are praying for Jason but could not allow him to remain in a position of leadership. The AD was saddened and surprised by the outcome of yesterday's legal proceedings.

The local press was given this statement at about the same time.

Wow, you guys are so fast to jump to conclusions without facts. When the facts are not clear, why not give Liberty the benefit of the doubt, at least for a few hours? And this is not the first time this has happened. I recall that many of you have jumped to conclusions in the past only to be embarrassed when the facts came out.

Also, RVA Parks, Johnnie Moore and Liberty had no problem with anything Flamesnation posted, only with the fact that the site was apparently using Liberty's trademarked logos. That's what he meant when he said the site could not be trusted. His point was-- it is not an official Liberty site and any "news" about Liberty should be viewed with that fact in mind.

Anyone who understands intellectual property law knows that failure by a trademark owner to challenge unauthorized use of trademarks can result in the loss of certain rights. Liberty has a fiduciary responsibility to protect Liberty's intellectual property rights whenever they are being used without authorization. I traded some e mails with Mr. Manson after Mr. Corry asked him to stop using Liberty logos and explained to him that Liberty could not care less what he posts on his website as long as he doesn't use our logos in a way that might confuse viewers about whether his site is official.

Also, I think I saw in this thread that Flames Nation was claiming to be waiting on a response from Liberty's general counsel. I e mailed the general counsel and this was his response:

I replied to him and offered an agreement that outlined the ways it could be used but he wanted something too open ended. I said he needed to give me a list of specifics. I don't believe he ever got back with me. I'm in the Christmas tree tonight so I can't check my emails to confirm if something came over Thanksgiving break or not. I will check and let you know.

It is curious to me that positive news about Liberty athletics like the recent New York Times article never seems to attract as much attention on this board as junk like this seems to attract.

Is this about Asa? If my memory serves me correct, in that case, pretty much the opposite of this paragraph is what happened.
