That was embarrassing. We looked like a high school team. Offense and defense were awful. You're not going to win games shooting 26% from the field. The JUCO transfers played decent. However, John Caleb and Tavares looked bad (a combined 1 for 14 from the field). Things can only go up from here.

We clearly miss Jesse's leadership.

Ouch. Y'all need to rebound against the Tribe, and they handled Hampton easily tonight.

FWIW, I was happy with our effort in the Smith Center tonight. Newsome only scored 5, UNC got 22 offensive boards, and yet we hung around and only lost 76-59.

HP beat UNCG, UNCA beat WCU, Radford only lost to Wake by 12 and CSU only lost to Charlotte by 10. Not too bad a showing for the conference I guess. :|

Hard to feel good about this start to the season. Same garbage every year. I'm trying to stay positive but man, that was a blowout.

For reference, D3 school Randolph-Macon only lost 76-55 to Richmond in an exhibition, and yes Richmond played their primary rotation players the entire game up until garbage time...

Burrus and Gielo were both clearly missed, but that doesn´t change the fact that last night was an awful showing. I wasn´t surprised to see us get down early, and was a bit encouraged by how we finished the first half. The second half was just terrible. No excuses.

I try not to start out the season as a negative nelly however this is the pivotal year for this team and this staff. If this program doesn't show a good deal of positive improvement by the end of the season it will be time for a change. We have the facilities and $ to be a consistent top 100 program. We should be in the top 3 in our conference every year. Anything less is unacceptable and we shouldn't accept excuses. I have been a fan 20 plus years but I have had enough of mediocrity. Make me believe we can really get somewhere!

First of all, I'm excited to be a part of FlameFans, this is my first post!

Getting to the game last night, I have a few glaring concerns. I had the opportunity to be there last night, and unfortunately we got laughed out of the gym. This team has the pieces to be effective. We have good size and are pretty athletic on the wings with a good starting PG.

The biggest problem I saw last night is that we do not utilize our size on the block. The Coronado kid had position countless times down low last night and they would not feed the post. Sommie did not play well at all, and if his play continues I hope we are smart enough to make some changes to the starting lineup. Our offense fills in gaps at the wings and we set screens for days that aren't effective. When we did feed the post we turned it over because our wings don't know how to throw a bounce pass in there. The most frustrating thing was that on almost every possession, it took almost 25 secs. for us to get the ball inside the 3 point line.

Our offense is also ineffective due to all of the subs that are made to set our press defense that rarely worked. That being said, the best people in my mind last night were Jourdan and Coronado. I really liked the Taylor kid for the short amount of time he played, which was also confusing to me because he made an immediate impact. Regardless of injuries, there's no way we should ever lose to an A10 team by 40. Liberty basketball has a long way to go to be effective this season, but I am not ready to count them out just yet, as tempting as it may be.

Welcome to the board, McClanaFan!

I think your observations are right in line with the majority of folks on the board. We have no business getting smoked that badly to Richmond. Hopefully we make some quick adjustments and get some more of our guys back on the floor that are sidelined with injuries.

I agree that Jourdan really impressed me. He has the ability to create opportunities along the baseline that I'm not seeing from much of anyone else right now. And I too was frustrated watching Coronado gain position without an entry pass. But it was the opening night and with so many new faces on the floor together we clearly are still feeling each other out.

I made it to the game and here are a couple of my thoughts...JR, Jourdan should do pretty well in the Big South. I was pretty disappointed in the amount of post touches that both received. Aside from those two guys no one else looked to score. Given we were playing against an A-10 opponet but come on that was terrible. JR and Jourdan should have gotten the ball every possession. I do like Davon Marshall but aside from that I think the guards are too small to compete against competition of that caliber. I still think we will fair well in the Big South, however that doesnt satisfy me. I like to see us competitive outside of our conference. Andrew Smith in my opinion has elite athleticism but man he is SOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was thinking about the time Layer has been here and it seems like during his tenure we have never had a guy who could score by himself..like a Larry Blair or Anthony Smith. I think we will find that to be a huge issue this year once again. Just my two cents.
