I remember walking to classes when the campus was iced over. I guess the kids are just softer these days.

Atlantic City is under water.

A ship sunk off the coast of NC with 2 of 16 crew missing.

That was the HMS Bounty that sunk.

I blame Lieutenant Bligh. If he'd only listened to Master Fletcher things would have turned out ok

I visited the HMS Bounty a number of times as a child when it was docked in St. Pete Florida.

I like it because driving 40 miles each way in high winds and heavy rain is absolutely nerve racking. But I realize, not everyone commutes 40 miles each way.

Pretty sure one of the trees in my front yard cussed at me when I ran out to get the mail and newspaper. Starting to see video of large trees coming down in DC and the storm is still about 90 minutes from landfall.

I'm hunkered down in Frederick, MD. Still have power, though lost my DirecTV signal hours ago. Candles are ready, laptop and cell phone staying fully charged.

Had some pretty strong wind gusts earlier this afternoon, but just been getting drenching rain for past many hours (started yesterday). Campus was closed today and is again tomorrow. Worst is coming through later tonight, I'm told.

For Frederick, yes, overnight hours will be the worst.

Liberty opening at 11am tomorrow. Weird. The weather will be much worse tonight then today. lol. But whatever.

You're welcome for the day off JBock
According to Christian preacher John McTernan, the gays are responsible for Hurricane Sandy. Oh, along with President Obama and Mitt Romney because “both candidates are pro-homosexual and are behind the homosexual agenda.” His proof? Duh, Sandy’s arrived right before the election.

People say stupid and asinine things all the time. But you aren't implying I really believe that right?

No, I'm not implying that. Just trying to be stupid and asinine myself and take credit for giving you a day off of school :P

In all seriousness though, I was not implying that you believed that nutjob.

Glad to see such a small storm didn't impact Virginia much. But it did kill my business trip to DC meaning that I won't be at Saturday's game after all.

Power went out around 6:30 for me and just came back on around 11:15. Just long enough to spoil the meat/dairy in the fridge. We had sustained winds of 43-45, with gusts over 60, from 9-10:30. Amazing that Dominion VA got out there right after the gusts stopped and got things turned back on.

If it was only out for 5 hours, it should still be good. Heck my meat and dairy lasted 24 hours during the Derecho event.

There's actually a pretty detailed list at foodsafety.gov, but I moved most stuff to the freezers before the storm. Looks like a little lunchmeat/yogurt/salad/milk is all that's lost.
