Appalachian State got a raw deal when the NCAA gave the Charlotte TV market to UNCC, a school with no football history. APP State has a Hugh following in Charlotte, Winston Salem, and Greensboro. More fans than Wake Forest?

You may know this being in NC a lot, but west of I-77, there's nothing but App State stuff everywhere.

I had assumed that it was a done package deal with Davidson. With DC out of the equation, the CAA is not the obvious choice for CofC that everyone assumed. That said, they are probably gone. But we have a poster on here with much better intel from inside that school than the rest of us.

The Charleston paper suggested yesterday that there was a Friday vote. One way or the other, it should all be announced by tomorrow if not sooner.

Yes. We will be leaving the Big South in 2023.
You are by far the most obnoxious poster when it comes to realignment.
Is what I said wrong? About Montana? App State? About us?

You're good, jbock. Don't worry about it. Not everyone has to overhype every piece of news and assume LU is moving up to a BCS conference anytime soon.

CoC looking to be in the CAA for 2013-2014 season. SoCon loses non-football member, any chance they'll try to replace them?
Yes they will, but hopefully not Liberty. We should only want in all sports (except the ones that don't qualify for example hockey) to a conference with FBS football. If we also did go to the SoCon then we will definitely not make it to the big dance in men's basketball and also no more big dance for women's basketball either. Play Basketball

Liberty should just go all in to a conference with FBS football for all sports and continue to grow through recruiting, donations, and the Flames Club.

Assuming that we don't get an FBS invite in the next year (very likely) than I don't see why we wouldn't want to jump over to the southern conference. Mens basketball doesn't make the big dance anyway, so I don't think that will be the deciding factor in wanting to switch. More than likely football will once again drive the move. With stony brook leaving, and coastal wanting to, we don't want to get stuck in an irrelevant or unrecognized FBS conference. Coastal wants out of the big south, they want to get into the southern conference, and they have a legitimate shot if Davidson and C of C leave of getting an invite. Trust me, the last thing we want is to play in a big south conference without stony brook and coastal, the only two truly worth opponents in the conference. A southern conference however that adds a coastal and Liberty only bolsters their FCS strength, and we could use it as a potential stepping stone into a more competitive division and hopefully a move to BCS. Is the southern our first choice? Absolutely not, but for safety of our football program I dont see any reason why we should not jump at a chance to land in a better conference in our current division.

I don't see the FBS picture shifting in our favor anytime soon, it doesn't look like the conference's we have a shot at (CUSA, Sun Belt, Mac, reconstructed WAC, which doesn't look like will happen) are going to have enough dominos drop to look our direction. With that being said, I think if SoCon or CAA come calling, we run for it, especially CAA with their NBC Sports coverage, that would pay great dividends for our programs exposure. SoCon or CAA would get us in some much better competition week in and week out and would help greatly in recruiting. Like others have said, I just hope we aren't left behind in a pitifully depleted Big South. The main goal now has to be to get us out the Big South, FBS or FCS. Don't give up on FBS, but certainly play well with the cards we are dealt.

I have to be honest, I don't get this argument. Yes, we win the Sasser Cup nearly every year, but is it really that bad to be in the Big South WHILE we wait on an FBS invitation? If we're too good for the Big South, why does this not reflect in all of our sports? By your argument stating that the Big South was holding us back, wouldn't it also mean it's a lot easier to break into NCAA tournaments by winning the auto bids in each sport? It also keeps travel costs low so we can save for our planned move whenever it happens. Of course, seriously, that could be a long time.

I'm not saying I'm happy with the Big South. But moving now would just be plain stupid, in my opinion, unless we realize we're meant to stay at FCS. Which, probably will not happen.

I think staying in the Big South is bad, especially without Stony Brook and Coastal desperate to leave. They succeed and we're left behind, it would be devastating for our image and our athletic department as a whole. We would have no competition to speak of and the Big South's auto bid would probably be out the window. We have to improve our lot, if that's staying in FCS for a while but getting to a better conference so be it. I'd much rather be competing against App State or GA Southern, or Deleware rather than Gardner Webb, Pres, or Charleston Southern. CAA or SoCon would be a big win for our athletics at this point.

Always some hidden gems from you, jbock. This is one of the better I've seen. We'll put another billion, maybe more in the bank before the federal government pulls the plug on student loans. "Saving" for an FBS move is a non-issue.
