Chris Lang wrote:The beat is what you make of it. Some people told me Liberty was a small-time beat when I took it on. I didn't see why it had to be, and the fan base has grown ten-fold since I covered that first game in the trailer that was the Williams Stadium press box in 2005. I thought my readers deserved to have the same sort of coverage that we would have given to Tech or UVa. It was a win-win. Good for you guys, and good for me experience wise learning how to cover a beat inside and out.
Spoken like a true professional, no matter the profession. Part of the reason my level of "fanship" has increased over the past few years is the quality reporting on the Flames I have been able to read every week. Thanks for doing your job to such a high level.

Agree wholeheartedly Lang...whether you are covering Liberty or Alabama or Tech or anywhere in between, if you can make them feel like a top level program with your coverage like you have with LU, its completely worth it. Im also thankful for Lang because he got me my first serious writing gig freelancing for the News and Advance

So, I'm just reading this with my jaw on the floor. Congrats Chris, but man will you be missed. You have been the absolute best and will continue to be even if it's for VT (yuck). You have set the bar high and someone will need to fill in your LU replacement on what is expected. I wish you the absolute best.

First McKay. Then Rocco. Now Lang? :frustrated I hope we can still be friends.

With a recommendation letter from Lang himself, how could ole bj NOT get the job?

We are for sure winning out and going to the playoffs now. Not because Lang was a jinx (he's not) but because he waited to cover such a trip for a while. Now that he's gone it will happen. That's the way it happens.

I feel bad, but I think I'm going to have to unfollow. Too much Tech info cluttering up my feed. It's been swell.

I know I feel the same way. I just don't have the nerve to hit the unfollow yet. It's like I'm losing a part of myself.

No need to feel bad for unfollowing. It's totally understandable. ... It doesn't help that Tech has media availability on Mondays/Tuesdays and Liberty doesn't have media availability on Monday. Made it seem more sudden.

Thank you again, everyone, who dropped a note on Twitter. The switch itself is bittersweet. Happy that I'm getting a chance to cover a BCS school/conference on a regular basis, sad to move on from the great interactions that I've had with Liberty fans, staff and athletes. Rest assured that LU coverage is a priority at our paper, and we're moving as fast as possible to get things worked out.

Not sure if he's permanent or temp but Damien Sordelett of the Danville Register and Bee is covering LU this week since Chris ditched us. Follow him at @DSordelettGDR on the twitter.

Honestly, I like the gig I have right now, and Id have a hard time being away from my wife as much as I would be covering LU away events. We've only been married for two months as of this coming Thursday and I wouldnt want to take away from the time we spend together on weekends at this point.

Chris Lang,

THANK YOU for some GREAT reading over the past couple of years! I have appreciated the hard work which I can sense that you have put into each article. I also have grown to appreciated your professionalism, and objectivity to the Flames Fanbase - in cutting the news as straight as you know how.

For myself personally, you will be surely missed.

I have a strong love and affinity for the Liberty Flames. And as perhaps the greatest compliment that I could attempt to give you, in terms of your writing over the years, you have personally made my geographical distance of 2,500 miles from Lynchburg and the Liberty Community seem a whole lot more tolerable, informative (in terms of quick, reliable updates), and closer in distance to my alma mater (Liberty) than it really is.

I think that you had said that Virginia Tech is your alma mater, so I hope that you can understand what I am trying to say. And I am sure that to you VT is a special place for you; as Liberty is for me.

I wish you the absolute best in everything that you do. I wish that we could keep you on the Liberty side of things. But I know that this is a great opportunity for you. I also hope as others have said that you will not be or feel a stranger to this board. As you are always a welcomed presence here at FF.

With great respect,
A Liberty Fan Forever

From one Bearded man to another, I'm gonna miss you Lang. I got to LU the same year you started the Beat. working with the team and seeing you around practice was great. Thanks for the great coverage. When I was at Georgia State I wish some of the Atlanta journal constitutions writers would have taken your approach to the small fish in the big pond. Good luck with the new gig. We'll all be praying and rooting for you!
