He kept grabbing his right groin when he came off the field after each kick in the 2nd half. I was surprised they let him continue to kick.

You would think with all of the $$$$$ that have been put into the football program and our great facilities, that our AD would make sure that our key players don't get hurt. He should be hiring better strength and conditioning coaches.

Hmmm.... hate to say that I agree, but over the last few years we seem to really have serious injury issues- FB, MBB, and WBB. I hope Lunsford doesn't have the same issues our last great kicker had.

Better strength and conditioning coaches? It doesn't get any better than Coach Bill and Coach Dave. You my friend are a dolt, and I am not sorry for saying that. Injuries happen, and many times it has nothing to do with muscle imbalances or whatever other ideas your're conjuring up.

It does have a lot to do with stretching. The #1 most neglected area of strength and conditioning.

I was under the impression that personal attacks were no longer tolerated around these parts. Sly? :nono

The football team has a ridiculous amount of mobility work each day. The problem has nothing to do with the strength and conditioning coaches - they are both world class. The problem is called football and the human body. Injuries happen. Every team. Every year. Most of the time there is nothing you can do about it. Both of our strength coaches do an excellent job of keeping the guys in shape and away from injuries the best they can but football is a violent game. Many injuries are unpreventable.

maybe a hip flexor issue..which is no fun. Being a freshman, it is probably the high volume at the college level that he is not used to causing the injury. Atleast Gill is responsible enough to take the situation serious. Because if not taken serious and he would continue to be forced into playing and would eventually get worse over time and could become career altering. (speaking from experience)... I hope John has a speedy and efficient recovery. Sassaman has to step up!

Can't tell if this is tongue in cheek or not...guessing it is but responding as if it isn't...

Speaking as a former player and coach, it's never wrong to ask if the in-season lifting and lackof recovery are contributing to injuries especially if there are any patterns.
However, short of such evidence comments like this one above are malarkey :nono .

Go Flames!

Some here need to get their sarcasm meter fixed. :) I was just saving ToC some time copy and pasting his standard post to almost anything.
I am 100% behind the Athletic staff and the team. It is sad to see this happen to many of our players, but it happens, it is a part of the game.

Actually, I've talked with someone closely tied to Gillespie and Williams and there is some validity to the issue, though replacement isn't the solution. Strength training focused on Olympic type movements requires more time on improving movement and flexibility than most teams will give.
Of course, injuries like Boyd's are just wrong place-wrong time issues; no one can makes bones more flexible.

Olympic movements are not the issue. Football happens. Injuries happen. Olympic lifting actually increases flexibility.

Tread carefully here Haize, you may be in uncharted territory. Power lifting and Olympic lifting are completely different.
