Of course we do. What do you think happens to those not content with the direction of the university?

Definitely not Liberty's, but lots of work at Liberty surely paid for it. With the Runk and Pratt announcement, it looks like it'll continue to be seen at Liberty Ridge.

so i was told that LU has purchased the quality inn by outback and the old days inn (now university inn), in preparation for when the circle will be torn down and the new dorms are built. so with those acquisitions and the wingate i would assume that is enough to house all of the students but that would put a hurting on hotel rooms for a bit even with the new hampton inn and suites being built.

Last month, the front desk clerk at my hotel (not the former Days Inn) told me that Days had pulled the franchise from the owner. Earlier today I noticed the "Under New Ownership" sign in front of the new University Inn.

Earlier this week, Chancellor Falwell was interviewed on 90.9 The Light and he mentioned that they had just bought the Quality Inn, and some students would be moved there after Christmas break, when they begin tearing down 4 or 5 of the circle dorms.

Here's the online recording of the second part of the interview where he mentions the construction: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151121524799079

3 new "towers going up" ASAP. Dorm circle residents will be moved in there, then the rest of the circle trailers will be demolished.

Maybe this conversation has taken place amongst these 17 pages but after my HC visit this weekend I came away with a few...hmmmmmm's .........tell me about this Falwell Library? I heard this weekend one very expensive robot will live there to collect books for people. I'm kind of wondering...instead of a robot why not get with Apple and come up with the Falwell Library of the future. Where books are read from tablets and no robots are needed. Collaboration with Apple seems to make more sense than a room with 20k books in it. Just a thought.

Oh one more thing sense I'm ruffling feathers, what's the purpose of that multi million dollar marble welcome center? Technology folks, lets embrace it!

We've been getting away with the "electronic" library for years with our rinky dink current library. I have actually always been on board with that school of thought but apparently you need a big pile of paper books to get any respect.

With that line of thought, there's no point for a library. All that is already available online, from anywhere. A library needs to be a place with books, not just a really big, really expensive internet cafe.

As relevant today as it was back then.
Thomas Jefferson.
I read books on my iPad and NOOK. Do those not count?
The only relevance is that reading is a great way to help with AD....SQUIRREL

The big pile of paper books gets respect from the old academic crowd, those 35 and older. I know one of the biggest complaints of incoming COMS freshmen as I was leaving was the tour guides kept showing them the library when they were interested in the computer labs, number of MACS, video and audio editing software available, etc...

Jefferson!

Personally, I'm okay with online databases, but not books. To me, there's nothing like an actual, printed book. I'm sure we agree on that.

See, I'm not all that illogical after all!

I didn't know George was into books that much. I guess Weezy read to him each night in their deluxe apartment in the sky.
Seriously though, books are cool. There is something about flipping the page and looking at the next picture.

How do you think he was able to move up to that deluxe apartment in the sky? :dontgetit

Ahhh... that's because LU didn't buy the old Days Inn. I'm sure that they will rent it when the time comes, but for now, it seems to be owned by another entity who happens to have a relationship with the school, as well as our old friend badger.
Interestingly enough, the owner of the old Holiday Inn seems to be G & J Thomas, Inc (eerily similar to Glen and Jimmy Thomas) and they- not Liberty- are paying taxes on it. Liberty is listed as the owner of the Wingate and Liberty is paying the taxes on it. If you had good ties with Liberty, now would be the time to own a hotel close to campus; you could turn a buck or two for some years out.

And PARENTS, who are paying tuition. :oldhag
Meh, I think parents are catching onto technology. My aunt who's 50 now knows how to use an iPad, create a WiFi hotspot, etc... thanks to me.

My mom has also learned to text.

Plus as the younger generations become parents, they'll have adapted and expect more digital technology to be available.

I noticed some enormous greenhouse frames going up on LU property out on Sunnymeade (The direction toward English Tavern). Anybody know what that's about? They might not be greenhouses, but they look like it at this point in their construction.
