I had to run and cover a hockey game midway through the third quarter. Was great to tune in and hear us roar back on the drive to the Ice Center...the wife even was concerned with our play on this day (and she doesn't even watch much football)

No lack of support for TG from one of the more prominent members of the team:

+1, I am concerned as well, there is no excuse for how we allowed GW to work us like they did in the 1st half. I don't know what the problem was/is but hope it gets worked out before next week. I'm just happy we pulled this one out, very sloppy play.

GO FLAMES!

I'm not sure. Chris Lang might be able to better answer that.
Apparently they mistakenly chose to kick off rather than defer. Since they won the toss and chose to kick, Liberty got the choice in the second half, which they obviously chose to receive. Mistake on the part of one of the GW captains.
Kicking off to start the second half worked out for them though? I figured the result of that play finished us off.

We won. I know it's blissful ignorance but a win is win, no matter what.

Gardner Webb must have their hearts broken. They had this game and somehow they let it slip. You could tell if the crowd got into it, we could make the comeback.

I noticed 1/4'th of the students left after it was 21-3. Funny thing is, it didn't much differ from when it was full.

Lang, I was wondering about that myself. I was like, didn't we get the ball in the 1st half?

TH, good point as well. We were all shocked and certainly this team could have rolled over and quit. But we didn't. The kids fought back and snatched this game when it looked like it was lost.

FIFY

We've had the same thoughts for the first 4 games.

From my perspective, we are doing ok. We have a freshman QB, almost no experienced receivers a lot of key injuries and a new coach and system. We should have won the NS and Leigh games, but we made a couple of key mistakes.
Every game the coaches have made some very good adjustments at half time or before. (That is something that almost never happened before). As usual, the expectations here are beyond what they should be (in all sports, just not football). I am as guilty of this as anyone.
For me, I am willing to wait until the end of next year before getting too excited about the coaching staff. They had little to no time to recruit and a lot of key positions have new/inexperienced players.
TOC and the rest of the haters can continue on, I don't believe in censoring her or anyone else. We need some good entertainment here every now and then. It's all JB's fault anyway.

So are those who disagree with Obama's stimulus waste policy haters because they believe a change is better for America? If some one sees America ideals being compromised and is willing to defend those principles usually they are called...Patriots.

Again the only ones laughing are outside our LU family....Richmond thinks it is funny how our AD could not support a winning coach so he jumps laterally and they are winning big road games again....all the AD has to do is make good hires and manage the maintenance staff, God knows Jerry Jr has given athletics all the money and facilities a university this size needs and we can't beat a bad MEAC team at home....keep laughing but in Lynchburg it is not so funny.

Norfolk State? Pretty much went the other way in that game. We haven't played 4 good quarters since week 1. Gill should get 3 years, but year 1 is showing why there was a lot of concern about his actual coaching ability.

He left early anyways. Such a fair weather fan! He apparently ate all the food at the Flames Club tent and wanted to see his Cavs win. I'm betting he's not sober at this moment
now now haize. i fully admit i left early and it was not to see those dogs the hoos play. i am no fair weather fan either. I bleed Liberty and im simply tired of giving money to have a mediocre product. At the end of the day i will continue to support our teams but geez it gets maddening sometimes. i left because i was so fired up at how bad we played.

now on to the game and forgetting the instigator mr. haize. that was one of the worst halves of football i have ever seen. the defense looked like they had not practiced all week. it also seems like the offense starts to slowly and it takes stamm time to warm up in his play calling. i still think our OL play is shaky and will need to get better. I am enjoying seeing woodrum improve each game and i think he is going to be solid. I did like cutting down on the penalties though. in the end we are five games in and there should be more continunity. im still not impressed with the coaching staff, but kudos to the staff and players for getting off the mat. we need to pound presby next week.

T or C's last post has nothing to do with the Gardner Webb postmortum thread. It meantions nothing about the game. He did mention Richmond, Obama, and losing to a meac team...I guess he meant to post it in the Norfolk State postmortem. Maybe it could be moved over there to the past where it belongs.

As far as the kickoffs...how can a Gardner Webb captain make that mistake...even though it worked out for them...who chooses to kick off in each half?

With all due respect to Smoothie leaving early, for my money, the SECOND half was one of the BEST halves of LU football that I've seen, well, since Rocco left: in the last 25 minutes of the game, LU outscored G-W 32-7.

FWIW, I believe GW could win the rest of their games if they stayed in that wildcat offense. That little #23 is fast and pretty tough too. What do they have to lose?

Wait, the guy JB let make a terrible decision to keep a felon on the team and you're worried about Richmond laughing at us? Keep in mind ToC this is a coach who's staff at times couldn't call a decent play against poor BS defenses. Give Gill sometime. He has nothing near the talent Rocco had the last two years and that is exactly why Rocco jumped ship. He knew the cupboards were bare and his stock would go down.
