WHAT WAS WITH GARDNER WEBB KICKING OFF BOTH FOR THE OPENING KICKOFF AND THEN ALSO KICKING TO US AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SECOND HALF?? Could anyone explain this to me?
They won the toss but chose the side of field they wanted. I believe that gave the Liberty the option to received both halves.

I'm not sure. Chris Lang might be able to better answer that.

Offensive player of the game = A. Allen

Defensive player of the game = J. Lundsford (thank goodness for touchbacks )

Best improvement overall = The play calling of Coach Stamn

Well it’s a win..I just can’t see the team getting pass Coastal and Stony. Average coaching and below average skill set from the team as a whole. 481 total yards by Gardner-Webb needs to be addressed by Wimberly. On a positive side, it’s clear that Coach Stamn is adjusting well to the offensive play calling responsibilities.

I am like many of the previous posters in that I do not know what to make of this team. Wow what a first half! Embarassing! But wow what a second half. Pretty Good ! I hope how we played in the second half is is how we play for the rest of the season. I understand we have had many injuries as was evidenced by all the guys on crutches on the sideline. We might be in for a long season but I hope we pull it together now after a win and start playing with some confidence.

P.S. why does any one bother to read or respond to T or C's posts :dontgetit

I have her on ignore but it still shows she posted, so I just throw out my guess since all their posts are the same.

Sticking with Woodrum looks better and better

Apparently they mistakenly chose to kick off rather than defer. Since they won the toss and chose to kick, Liberty got the choice in the second half, which they obviously chose to receive. Mistake on the part of one of the GW captains.

For right now I am happy we won.

As we move forward, it's all about correcting what went wrong tonight. And there seemed to be a lot.

Glad to be in the win column ultimately.

Couple of questions for you. 1. How many Liberty games have you been to over the last 5 years? 2. Are you a member of the Flames Club? Truly just wondering.
You shouldn't need a PM to answer those questions. Why do you feel that you can grind your axe in public but need to explain yourself in private.

The moderators should restrict comments that intentionally direct the threads to personal agendas- and as you are indicating by the whole "PM me" thing, this is personal. Maybe we need a section called "The Axe." Don't think you have a corner on negative experiences with the school- mine go back further than yours- like 1972- but you don't see me trying to push a personal agenda.

Now... loved to see the team fight back and really was impressed with Woodrum's leadership. After the first half, I was surprised to see the defense step up and stop GW. Most disappointing was the lax defense that Aikins played in the first half; maybe by design, but it sure looked weak to me and those around me. Someone made a good point though- the GW QB wasn't pressured much until the second half and that really put our secondary back on their heels.

I will gladly eat my crow. I jumped the gun in the 1st half. But we have several adjustments we need to make. No way we should lose to PC who just lost to VMI

Nothing like a huge comeback win on homecoming....the tithes and offerings will be flowing tomorrow.
Welcome to the tough (#sarcasm) Big South football conference T Gill. I bet u didn't think GW would be this hard to beat?

Norfolk St lost to Delaware St 20-17. The same Delaware St which beat VMI by about the same score. I think Norfolk St is now 2-4 without looking it up

It doesn't matter when they kickoff and our guys decide not to recover it anyway.

Any win is a great win. The defense was shaky but in all honesty losing Fogg and having Ayers out really hurt the secondary and the return game particularly on the kickoff that GW recovered. Speaking of the return game Abner's big return was a real momentum shift and we may be glimpsing the beginnings of a bright future for him.

Real impressive comeback to say the least.... I was surprised that the number of empty seats in the student section late in the game. I thought the QB played well. Still giving up to many big plays in the secondary.

I liked our effort, but we are 0-5 for the first time since 1990, back in the NAIA days. I fully expect the murmuring to continue among some of our fanbase. Speaking of NAIA, I still can't figure why in the heck do we schedule an NAIA power between LU and SB? Nothing to be gained from the game at all next week.

As for the Big South, it is SB and everyone else, I don't see them losing the rest of the way, although their biggest test will be at your place.

I saw the first half and wanted to vomit. Texted SMOOTHIE that I see this as the Karcher Era, Redux

(for those who don't remember that... you have NO idea how bad that got)

anyway then I decided to go w/ the reverse mojo: put on a LU jersey and turned off the second half.

good thing I decided to wait tho. Just logged in to Xbox and watched the second half... what a turnaround. Like a different team.

I'ts been a long time since a conference opponent came in here and embarrassed us in our own house. I really think we have serious coaching issues here but will have to wait and see. We're gonna be dealing with the Cardiac Kids all season and whoever said "we're not used to this" hit the nail on the head. I can't take that.

Great win. I'm looking at it as 9 halfs of some mixed up young team, and 1 half of a team that finally come together and figured it out. Go Flames!

And GW can gain something next week - a win.

PS: kinda glad I didnt get down there for the game. I know me, and I bet good money my conduct would have resulted in me being removed from the stadium sometime late in the second quarter. And SMOOTHIE woulda been mortified.

He left early anyways. Such a fair weather fan! He apparently ate all the food at the Flames Club tent and wanted to see his Cavs win. I'm betting he's not sober at this moment
