Yours truly + 6

My kids might actually be more excited than me about this weekend.

As for the game itself, if you think we are gripping just drop by the G-W board. They are really frustrated with their state of affairs. There is a thread that mentions that both their starting QB and leading tackler are both coming off injuries in their last game. If anyone understands the repercussions of that situation it is us.

Way too much, "drama", if you will, within our program right now. What parents, etc. have written on our board is just tip-of-the-iceberg stuff apparently.....combine that with a trip to your place, and your team hungry for a win, it adds up to more ugliness for us I'm afraid. :(

You are in for a treat, Kricket. As we get closer to the game, perhaps we can lay out our plans so more of us can connect.

It should also be noted that Flames Club is having their luncheon on Friday.

Just saw on FB that Tecmo Bowl legend Wayne Haddix is going to be in the house Saturday. Wish some of you younger guys could have seen him play back at City Stadium in the day.

As usual, Sly has done his homework in identifying those GWU players who have done a good job so far this year. GWU is in that awkward phase of a new coaches' career where he has now gotten rid of the dead weight left behind by Coach Patton and is now working with his first true recruiting class. I discount his first recruiting class since we didn't bring Coach Dickerson along until only a few days before signing day. This year's freshman class is impressive and many of them are already seeing significant playing time. Many of the GWU faithful are disappointed that in several instances a freshman is playing over an experienced player. Some are wondering if promises were made on the recruiting trail to entice some of these guys to get on board with the Runnin' Bulldogs. While they certainly have talent, they do not have experience and the first four games have been replete with missed assignments and poor position play. It's doubtful the mistakes will go away before this season is over. The thinking is that Coach Dickerson is getting these guys ready for next year and if this year suffers, so be it.

GWU really doesn't have to be ashamed of being 0-4 at this point with losses against Wofford , Richmond [GWU can't beat Rocco], Samford, and Pitt. We did show improvement in the game against Samford, but, the Pitt game could not have come at a worse time.

In looking at all of the Big South teams for this year, it is difficult that anyone will put Stony Brook in their place. But, they have posted impressive numbers against unremarkable teams. In two weeks, they play Coastal Carolina and their new billionaire stock broker/head coach and that should give us all a good barometer of who will end up with the autobid this year.

Speaking of Coastal Carolina, their recruitment of Joe Moglia appears to have paid financial dividends for their program. Coastal's football players now luxuriously tour the countryside in 3 fully logoed motorcoaches when they travel to opposing destinations. Even the South Carolina Gamecocks with their $80 million athletic budget rents buses to travel the southeast. The powers that be had to be pleased when Coach Moglia started the season 2-0 including a W over Furman [who hasn't been very good this year with a 2-3 start], but they have lost the last 3 to E. Kentucky, Toledo, and App. State. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes for CCU.

The rest of the Big South teams have all started poorly and we really don't know much about them until we get a few conference games under our belts. Unfortunately, it appears that much of our Conference is going to finish with a losing record this year and that can't be good if anyone actually believes that the Big South is really looking for quality expansion candidates to replace Stony Brook and Liberty U.

Here are some pics of our boys that are a little more flattering than the ones posted by Sly. I look forward to this game on Saturday and will share my pics once they are processed. If you click on the pic, you will be directed to my Slickpic site for more GWU football pics.
