Nick Martin was a back up but they moved him to FB 2 weeks ago to back up Nick. I have not heard if they are moving him back to D

I'm seeing no ChickenSquawk responses on this board so I'll stand in until they become literate. (All in good fun. Not many warm and fuzzies exchanged between the Brownshirts and the good guys at Lafayette.)

I have a question to begin: what's with the Flames? The loss to Norfolk State was a shock. The Big Sky score is more of a confirmation than a surprise. From a distance, Liberty is looking more ordinary than I am used to. What's the story.

As for the Squawks, they are also looking a little ordinary despite their spotless record and lofty (no. 14 last week, but I'm betting they drop) rankings. Their schedule is suspect and the 3 point win over Princeton was in the face of a 28 point spread from the Vegas crowd. I was at the game and was not impressed. As any FeatherHead would tell you, they come out strong in every game, but seem to run out of gas quickly. Their 3rd quarter performances have been ugly.

This looked like a great game in the preseason and should still be one that I'd pay to see. At this point I'm picking the visitors because, thanks to the last two weeks in Flameland, they have more to lose.

We've been hit hard by losses to our lineup especially in our front seven defensively. That's not an excuse, but an explanation. All three losses have been as a results of turnovers and lousy kick coverage. Both of those problems are correctable. After watching how hard our guys played in Missoula, I am really jazzed about Saturday. We have gone from having no confidence in any quarterbacks to being excited about two of them.

And carney2, you are welcome here anytime. Some of the Lehigh folks were complaining on AGS about it being difficult to post here. But I hope Chuck gets on here soon. I love his takes even if I come from a different perspective than him on many topics.

This is about as MUST WIN as any non conference game I can remember. Elon a few years ago being the exception. Granted our chances for an autobid would still be slim to non, if we were 3-0 right now.

If we win, the team knows they can win a game against a good opponent. Coach Gill gets a W in the column for the first time in lots of ball games. It has to do something for confidence, to know you have the forumla. We have a bye week, and can prepare for conference play with the knowledge that that preparation and game planning can and will work.

If we lose, Chalk up another L for coach Gill. The bye week will only give us time to reflect on our 0-4 start. We wont know who our QB will be going into conference play. Fan Moral will be at a 5 year low. We will have to listen to TorC for another week. Lang's view of the team confindence will be a little different than it was yesterday.

GO FLAMES!

I say we win this one. Yes, thew are good and yes they are 3-0. But they beat Monmouth, CCSU, and Princeton. Not exactly the murderers row we've faced. I say we put it all together and come out with a win. I say again this is a good team that is leading in all the key stats every week and losing on a few badly placed mistakes. I plan to keep cheering on the Flames and believing that this team will get a string of wins ahead.

I agree that we're looking at a must-win here. The Norfolk State loss was a tough one, at home, but losing to Lehigh would all but slam the door on our season for all the reasons mentioned above.

0-4, with an 0-2 slate at home, facing a bye-week would be demoralizing.

Our depth, especially at LB, is going to be tested and soon. We have lost a slew of talented guys and I'm hoping we have a few guys step up to the plate!

Not a must win, but important none the less. We need to keep the fans into it and get some momentum going into the bye. If we lose and yet turn around and somehow sweep the BSC, it's not a lost season.

I hate to carry any water for the Foul Fowl, but, Rooster, Norfolk State on "murder's Row?" What did they attack you with, a foam pillow?

In the first four games, all four teams went to postseason play (Wake Forest went to a bowl game last year) with NSU, Lehigh and Montana all earning autobids in 2011.

Pay attention. They won their league and went to the playoffs last year and will likely do the same this year. So yea, pretty good team there.

He was comparing Lehigh's schedule to ours and said ours is a Murderer's Row compared to theirs. I agree

Monmouth - Wake Forest
Central Connecticut St - Norfolk St
Princeton - Montana

It's no comparison.

I think even our young offense could put up 30+ on those teams.

No complaint about schedules. Lehigh has been munching on cupcakes from day one - although Monmouth may yet prove to be a little better than advertised. Perhaps my perspective from north of Mason and Dixon is skewed, but, to me, playoff bid and league championship notwithstanding, Norfolk State may not be a cupcake, but they don't appear to be more than a donut, Danish, or other morning pastry. Certainly not "murderer's row."

Not attempting to get any kind of a spitting match going here. I actually like and respect you guys from our home and home a few years ago. A real fun series. My basic point is that the Flames have not proven themselves this year. Frankly, it's a surprise. You are usually "in the hunt." If this is the week you do it, well and good. Frankly, I think this bunch of ChickenSquawks can be had. They have not shown much so far. As for their competition:

Monmouth - As stated above, may be better than you think.
CCSU - Every bit as bad as you think
Princeton - Better in the trenches than I expected; seriously deficient at the skill positions

Allentown (PA) The Morning Call wrote:Lehigh's Ward looking forward to returning home
Lehigh free safety is going back home to Virginia where a lot of schools showed no interest in him.

September 19, 2012|Keith Groller

Tyler Ward grew up in Charlottesville, Va., the home of the University of Virginia.

And not surprisingly, Ward said he grew up a big Cavaliers fan.
But here's something of interest ...
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE

Both Ward and fullback Zach Hayden, the two players featured at Lehigh's weekly media luncheon on Wednesday, said they are looking forward to Lehigh's only night game of the season.

"Absolutely, I am pumped up for it," Hayden said. "You miss the night games. It's going to be a long day on Saturday since we're flying out in the morning. But you'll get that night chill in the air under the lights, we'll all be pumped up to play."

Lehigh has played one night game per season since 2003 and has gone 6-3 in those games. Dating back to 1999, the Mountain Hawks are 10-4 under the lights, including a win at Liberty in 2004.
and some travel logistics ...
But Coen said that flying down on the same day as the game is a little different. When the team flew to NCAA playoff games at Northern Iowa and North Dakota State the past two years they left on Friday morning for Saturday night games.

"We're fortunate to get the support to be able to do what we're doing, and it's the best thing for us," Coen said. "But we've never flown before on the day of the game and there's going to some down time for us once we get there.

"We'll get down there by noon. We'll get in a hotel and we'll have some meetings. Before you know it, we'll be headed to the stadium. Then we come right back after the game. Had we bused down there, we'd lose Sunday and that wouldn't be good because we do a lot of work on Sunday preparing for our next opponent."

I hope Sly's right about the LU's performance in MT being good news for next Saturday--I had to leave early at the Norfolk game and was very surprised by the final score. NS came out strong and then faded in the first half and seemed to be doing that in the second, but it didn't end that way. It would seem MT's emphasis on fundamentals like tackling and holding on to the ball would be a good example.
