I just can't help but laugh at ToC.

Ignorant comments by an ignorant individual.

Jeff Barber has gone leaps and bounds for this athletic department. He has done a phenominal job since being here at Liberty. Just walk on campus and find out for yourself.

I can see your logic. I may or may not agree, but I see it. Simply put, you believe the competitive output - especially in baseball, football and men's basketball - have not matched the resource input. Fair enough.

1) What AD in Liberty's history do you believe has been successful?
What is success? Riding the wave of unprecedented funding with new facilities and salaries. How about building during the days of very limited funding yet the best team performances attained. Best AD was Dr. Jerry Falwell. His ego did not get in the way of the mission/vision.

2) If/when Mr. Barber is replaced, with whom would you recommend he be replaced? A short list would be interesting to hear. Any internal candidates? Any locals? Anyone with Liberty ties? Many could do what JB has done structurally if JLFjr is going to pay for everything....most on ff would think my wife was a great AD if decorating new buildings with unlimited resources were in the budget. There are issues that need not be aired here that are not congruent with building a sound foundation to the Christian program we all envision. Promoting from within is best if you have a worthy candidate. Ultimately it now is Jlfjr decision on who is best to execute his vision for LU athletics and who he wants to work with....if he is satisfied with the returns than all opinions matter little. Personally I am very confident that we underachieve with JB.

3) What criteria and how much time would you give the individual so selected? If the individual was providing strong servant leadership with a genuine commitment to faith based principles than we should listen to where he/she see the growth process and advance the resources/support as needed.
Success is a process and one's values as well as skill sets will quickly become self evident. Certainly one who would not allow cocaine felons to return to the field prior to charges being reduced. That should have been an easy decision if mission/character is holding the rightful place.

If you are willing to answer any/all of these questions directly, you will earn some genuine respect for me.

Your ignorance is shouting aloud if you think JB is responsible for this campus or athletic facilities. Right time right explosion of income. He is responsible for a sliding MBB program, listen to the baseball insiders and running Rocco to Richmond...let's see how it works for both institutions. So to stay on thread being down 24-0 to a suspect Montana team losing at home to a Norfolk St team that can't beat Howard is not the raving success I walk on campus to see.

I know I said I would ignore this whole thing but again ToC you completely ignore my question.

Who is ultimately responsibly for your arch enemy, Jeff Barber, staying around Liberty for so long???

I may disagree with your view but I wish you would at least have the balls to call out who is responsible for keeping JB around. You have no balls whatsoever and really just hate JB. That is the reality of it and it makes it impossible for your to be unbiased in your analysis.

OK simpleton...of course it is now JLFjr authority to keep any staff at LU ultimately. I pray for his wisdom in seeing what is best for LU. However JB was given unprecedented authority with his hires in major programs and staff athletically. Lying, manipulation and slander will not be blessed in executing LU athletics.

Don't tell me let me guess. He would not name an AD from our past who was better then who we have now? He has no cogent criteria for hiring an AD other then Anyone But Barber aka ABB. He deflects any judgement on Jerry Jr for keeping JB on board using some type of 'I luv LU and support the chancellor line'. And further sprinkles in statement about unlimited funds, decline in major sports and maybe some wild card like RD or Rocco. :D

If this is true, that you pray for JLFJR's wisdom in doing his job, then why do you continue to not trust that God given wisdom? Is it your lack of faith?
If you have serious problems with Mr. Barber, why do you not, as JLFJR has requested on this very forum, go directly to JB and confront him as we are directed to do in Matthew 18? If you aren't satisfied with that then take it to his boss, again, JLFJR, and seek resolution there. If that doesn't resolve the issue then you either decide to submit to the chancellor's authority or if not, go on your way and never have anything to do with the institution again. What you are doing here is WRONG from a biblical standpoint, period!

This thread is a joke. It is really sad to see how threads can get hijacked away from the topic and always seem to go back to the same old stuff (insert Asa thread here). I am here to support my son and the team. Some of you may have given up on the team but the guys who suit up each weekend have not lost faith in their mission this year and they have not lost faith in their fans. Please return the favor.

Since you brought it up, and I couldnt tell you the last time his name was mentioned, the Asa situation is completely different. A great majority of those who opposed the Asa decision opposed the decision. What I stated several times, and to the poster known as JLFJR, was that just because I disagreed with one decision doesn't mean I disagree with every decision. In that argument, the fact that people agreed with more decisions then they disagreed with was lost. Of course the horrible PR response didn't help and provided great fun and fodder, but I digress
What ToC disagrees with is the people, Jerry Jr and JB specifically, and is consumed by hate.

I just want to take a minute to remind everyone (as Sly Fox did just a few days ago) that personal attacks aren't allowed on this board. Disagreement is welcome, but make it about the facts and not the people you're arguing with.

I know that it can be difficult sometimes, but we're going to be enforcing this rule more seriously over the rest of the football season. We want FlameFans.com to be a place where all are welcome to share their opinions. We also want it to be a place where new members feel welcome, so please keep that in mind too.

Thanks!

First off, I will take the time to apologize for (briefly yesterday) posting private communication for public record. That in and of itself was wrong and will not happen again. I was getting quite frustrated with the seeming lack of direct answers from ToC (which seem to be continuing) and I come from a background where if you are given a question, you give a direct answer to that question. Lang was correct to bring it up and I respect him for doing so.

All that said, I am getting tired of everything coming back to ToC and his issue with the AD (who as I believe postman said) continues to be employed by the university so he must be doing something right.

This thread has drifted off and onto the biggest rabbit trail I have ever seen.

If anyone has any comments or discussion on the Montana Postmortem - then let's get at it.

Here's a question or comment: for those of you who were at the Montana game in Missoula this weekend, what were your thoughts on the turnout of Liberty fans? Does anyone have any comparisons to the turnout from other road games that they have attended as a Liberty fan in past years?

My own feelings on the turnout of Liberty fans was that it was great. I was surprised in some ways. On Saturday morning before the game, I had asked the Liberty staff who were facilitating the large Liberty Tailgate & Meal Tent exactly how many people had purchased a meal ticket for this game? And excitedly, they had said that they had 150 people signed up just for the meal portion of the game day experience. I know from the game that there were in fact several Liberty fans, families that did not attend the tailgate experience.

I thought that this was a fairly decent turnout for a game 2,400 miles away from LU. I was also able to meet Liberty fans of all shapes and sizes: local Liberty alumni living in MT or Missoula; alot of online students from Montana or from out of State; current students; out of State alumni etc.

I even met some committed Liberty fans that had driven up from California and British Columbia. And I know from experience that those are very long drives.

Did any other people in this forum meet some Liberty fans or alumni at the Montana game, the airport, in town etc with a cool story or neat conversation?

It was a good turnout for sure. I heard 250 LU fans. I talked to a guy who came up from LA who played Football at LU with Chip Smith in the 70's. He Loves LU and is coming to the SBU game too. I also met Jacob Hagan's parents who came up from Florida and Nick Sigmons parents from the Roanoke area. There were LU fans from all over I hear. Great to see.

The turnout wasn't as strong as games closer to the school for obvious reasons. But several hundred fans dressed in red making some noise was fun. Sorry that I missed you, libertyfan4life. I was eating in the Liberty tent with SumItUp and several staff members. I'm sure we saw each other unknowingly.

Sly,

No harm no foul... It would have been great to chat in person.

In retrospect, there was so much going on in that day. Montana fan's (as great and hospitable as they are), probably also cut into alot of that time to talk with Flame Fans (on my way to the Liberty Tent) stopping me to talk along the way.

Some of the Liberty Fan's & alumni that I was able to talk to, had some great stories etc to tell. So much so that most of my lunch was cold the majority of the time.

I would have also really have liked to meet Chris Lang in person. I am appreciative of his regular articles, insight and column's with the News & Advance - being that I also live 2,500 miles away from the Mountain.

How about some Montana talk?

They lost to App State because:

1. They missed 3 field goals
2. They missed an extra point
3. They turned the ball over 4 times

They're a very good team (like us) when they don't make mistakes. I like OUR future!

Montana is a top 25 team this year. Top 5 program. Liberty is neither of those. We had some good teams and learned how to be winners. We all knew it was going to be a rebuilding year. Before the first game, before we got Gill, before Rocco left, we knew that. It sucks to lose, and I'd rather win but more often than not, you lose when you play a better team on the road.
