Hello all,

I am new to forums and so far have enjoyed reading all the posts so far. My fiance is a graduate from Liberty University and I have made many great long lasting friendships there through the years some of them played football for Liberty at one time or another. Last year was the second time I ever went to an LU football. I've lived in the Lynchburg area most of my life, except the 4 years I went to the University Of Tennessee, and had planned to go to more games but during Karcher era I didn't spend much time around here so I didn't go (my bad). Anyway, I know right now Liberty is 0-2 but we will rebound and beat Montana (I heard Montana had some trouble like Penn State had unfortunately) and look to have a very successful season. This being said the question I have is this. Last year there was a lot of excitement and energy during the games, how come at the Norfolk game there wasn't much excitement before the game or during it?

If you were on the press box side, as most of the guys can attest, its not all that active over there. Now if you are on the student side (I was over there with my wife since it was her first college football game), they were bringing it from the opening kickoff all the way to the missed fourth and goal.

Having been faithfully attending home games for the last 15 years...I can tell you that the baptist side does not get as into the game. It has gotten better than in the past but it was no better under rocco/karcher/ or rutigliano.

In other words...the baptist side has always been more quiet. It was pretty loud verses jmu last year...but most games are like what you saw. I stood with thundersticks most of the game and someone threw a walnut at me. :(

But we're makimg progress!

I know the Baptist side can seem quiet during games but we have a much better crowd than some teams. Come to Duke for a football game, you'll see what I mean!

Like BuryYourDuke said, sadly, it'll take more demand for tickets, which will lead to higher ticket prices :( , to get rabid fans on the Baptist side. I get general admission season tickets for me and my wife because 1) they're cheaper and 2) we have awesome stadium seats. From the sounds of conversations we hear around us from time to time, you would never think you were at a football game. Kids run in and out like its a high school football game and if we lose, oh well. You don't find this kind of stuff at big time college football games (the ones I've been to at least) and if that's what we want, we're going to have to find ways to achieve it. It sucks as a true fan that wants his fellow fans to get involved and care more, but I agree, I think it will take this generation of students becoming alumni to really see a change in culture.

EDIT: Also, establishing a winning tradition (getting back on track with conference titles, get in the playoffs, win national tittles!) and/or becoming FBS should help out a lot as well!

Welcome to the board, FlamesFan99!

Let me use your arrival to remind everyone that we need to show respect to our newbie posters when they arrive. Many of us including yours truly weren't very receptive to a new poster yesterday. Even if they come in with dissenting views that may not be viewed as wise by the majority of the folks on the site, we need to cut the new folks some slack in order for them to get the feel for the place. We need all the new blood we can find in here. New voices make the place considerably more interesting.

I've been to both a Duke football game and a basketball game and I had to wonder if I was at a the same school.

Nope afraid not, that was the year I graduated high school, it was something I tossed in for the heck of it. Now my fiance graduated from Liberty but she's not on this forum and if she was she would be on the basketball board 24/7.

daylight and darkness aren't they? a duke basketball game makes you feel like your at a major college event (which you are) but that football team feels like a middle school track meet

A general admission ticket allows you to be seen by the other TRBC members, and feel involved in the community. A very mild interest in the sport comes along with it. Until we have real fans, it will be like this. I honestly don't know how long this will take. Maybe a generation...who knows?

I would have agreed with that a few years ago, but with the cheapest seat in the stadium costing $20 I would venture to say the TRBC social hour has died down a bit. I know what you are saying though.

I'd like to add one thing to what was said above, a Duke basketball game may very well be on a top 10 list of ANY sporting event.
