This moral victory talk is upsetting. I was watching this game at home through the xbox and I was full on expecting to win this by more than 10 points. When the game ended I was in disbelief. UNC lost to Wake this week by 3. We lost to Wake by 3. We should have beaten NSU with very few problems. The big run plays that we let through scare me. Especially for when we get later in the season and most scary when you think about the playoffs. I am very excited and hopeful of this coaching staff.

Point is: This was NO moral victory. We had the game and lost it. Wake was a moral victory. This was a major disappointment. I can't wait to see the Flames play in again next week because I love Liberty, but I almost feel sick to my stomach that we might lose by 20.

Also, I do not agree with that play call on 4th and goal at the end of the game. And I'm not just saying that because it didn't work. As soon as I saw the QB stand up to look for the throw I almost lost it. We should have just ran the ball to the side and stretch it towards the side line. With that many defenders stacked in the box, and such a short distance to go, a burst of speed from the RB off to the side would have gotten it in and we would have walked away with a victory and possible ranked in the top 25 heading up to Montana.

He never said he expected us to lose to Norfolk State. What he said is that it doesn't surprise him that we did lost given what we did at Wake.

But go ahead, I guess it's 'logical' to stuff words in someone's mouth.

You can pretend that we typically perform well in games we should win. A lot of us whom have been around here, and follow every sport, know better.

Purple Haize wrote:Logic this is where you show your lack of understanding how to build programs and teams. Look at any great coach and program. How many started out on top? How many we're built over years? Your attitude is actually the one that needs to be changed. You EXPECT it but you don't prepare to DESERVE it and TAKE it. It's the'We are Liberty with this great big budget so we should win'. We are no more different and no more special then any other college athletic team that wants to be great. We have to work hard and EARN it.

I think you are confusing the outcome of the game with my thoughts on Postman's attitude towards said outcome. We lost two very close games to Wake Forest and Norfolk State. I am not so much upset with the outcome of the games than the fact that he expected us to lose them. Again I will spell it out for you. I am not upset we lost, I am upset that postman expected us to lose. What kind of fan expects to lose? Losers expect to lose!

Please, do not lecture me about building programs. Programs, like universities and businesses, are built on a lot of things including high expectations. I can promise you Coach Gill, Jeff Barber, and Jerry Falwell Jr. all have high expectations and are building this way. Our fans should do the same.

Again what kind of coach or football team wants to play in front of fans that expect them to lose?

Hogwash!
By your logic, Savannah State should have expected to beat both Oklahoma State and Florida State, correct? Using logic would tell you that these expectations aren't realistic. There's nothing wrong with using your brain to actually evaluate the team you pull for. Thinking you're going to win every game when your team isn't ready is illogical. Hopes and dreams do not equal realistic expectations. Time for a name change, logic.

I will lecture you on building programs because you obviously have never built one.
Last years expectations were higher because we had a veteran group who had been in the system and coach for years. This years expectations are lower because of the wholesale changes we have made in the off season. Any fan wants us to win every game. They don't say 'Golly Gee I hope we really suck and lose this game.'. No one here has done that. When you look at the big picture, like great leaders do, you can see things from an entirely different perspective. You just can't say We Should Win Every Game and Presto, it happens.
I have seen things I like about this team and my expectations for the future are high. But,losing this game does not make me lose sleep at night

I actually expected us to win logic...I am just not at all surprised.

I am a fan, not a coach. I expect our coaches and staff to expect us to win every game. If they don't they shouldn't be here.

As fans we don't need to approach things the same way players and staff approach things.

Keep being angry at me logic, I find it humorous

Maybe at Wake, but not last night. We lost in all categories.

Yet I am the crazy one?

Do OSU fans have lower expectations under Meyer? How about when Saban first came on at Alabama? Will expectations be lowered for whoever replaces Coach K?

Mediocre fans raise and lower expectations based on which way the wind blows. Great fans have high expectations at all times, regardless of circumstance. Who would you rather coach for? Play in front of?

I expected inconsistency. Sorry for not spelling it out for you. Everybody else could figure out what I was saying. Even jbock, and he isn't very smart! :)

Aldreakis averaged 5.8 yards per carry.

We had 1st and goal from the 5.

We threw the ball twice.

With a redshirt freshman QB.

Also - will someone please teach Mike Tilley the names of our players. Josh Woodlum doesn't play for us and he didn't go to Cape Spring High School. He should also know how to pronounce Nicky Fualaau's name. I don't expect perfection but I expect the announcers for the Liberty produced game should know the names of the Liberty plays.

I agree SJ. I was thinking to myself run the ball 4 straight times from the 5 with AA and we tie the game up. Hated the 2nd down play call.

Noone will ever admit it, but I think TG being gone all week then coming back at the 11th hour and calling the plays really hurt us last night.

Watching football games produced by FSN on tv is painful. I always hope it gets better, but it never does.

Move Alan York to tv and have Nick do play by play on radio. Just my suggestion...

Their lack of preparation is more frustrating then the outcome of this game. If it's Christian it ought to be better, right logic?

SJ speaks the truth.

With all due respect to TG, someone needs to show him the video of Aldreakis Allen running all over WVU as a freshman. When I saw us first and goal from the 5 with Allen in the backfield, I was expecting 4 downs of what Kim Graham used to call "smash mouth football."

Instead, we overthought it and tried 2 pass plays inside the 5--with a redshirt freshman QB.

BuryYourDuke wrote:Then we gave up THE MOST OBVIOUS FAKE PUNT EVER. That led to a TD.
THIS. I'm sitting at home on the couch watching on my laptop, saying to myself "ooo -- they're gonna fake this one." The announcers commented on Norfolk State's unusual punting formation. I think every person in the stands knew it was a fake punt. But nobody on the coverage team did. Nobody on the sidelines seemed to. That's not good.

I'm not devastated by this loss, but right now we should be sitting at 2-0. We should have beaten Wake, and we certainly should have won Saturday night. We made too many mistakes. Some of those mistakes are things we could have gotten away with against a Big South team (except Coastal and Stony Brook), but against a decent team you can't get away with them. Norfolk State may not be on the level of Montana or App State, but they are a decent team, and they're well coached.

+1 the whole FSN crew was a disaster and another +1 for Alan York to do tv. it was hard listening to them and who ever was the sideline reporter was brutal too, i know she's no samantha steele but still that was terrible.

as for the game im not surprised. Gill wasnt here for a week to prepare, key injuries, and the fact i think this was a 6-5 team. Didn't help that the refs were brutal. Offense is just too inexperience. Lastly I hope Bah and Sigmon are healthy enough next week or it will be a long game.

There is good reason to be concerned. For one thing, last night was painful to watch at times (in more ways than one...here is hoping that Malcolm can recover and at least get back to normal, much less play football). That said, there were flashes of good throughout the evening (Aldreakis was a warrior, Kevin Fogg was...well he was Kevin Fogg...) but there were also moments that made you want to bury your face in your hands (like the running into/roughing the kicker penalty after a huge defensive stop).

Times like this are what really prove a team's mettle. Stony Brook started 0-3 (including a head scratching loss to Brown) and then didnt lose another game until the second round of the playoffs. So the question these guys have to ask themselves is will they pick themselves back up off the mat and keep on fighting, or stay down and give up?

Equinox wrote:The reality is that due to the near win against Wake Forest, the players looked past Norfolk State, towards Montana and got “waxed”. (I did the same thing) This should have been a win for the Flames, but when the defense isn’t tackling and players are not aware of their assignments (both sides of the ball) this will happen. Allen played a great game and I believe secured the #1 running back position (hopefully for the season). It was commendable that Gill physically showed up for the game but was he there mentally and would the result be the same if Torbush finished what he was allowed to start and someone else, other than Coach Gill was allowed to call the offensive plays. Shoulda, coulda, woulda…bottom-line the game is in the history books and its on to Montana I have a funny feeling that next week a more positive game than the recent one.
I have been thinking about the game today and I think Equinox summed it up very well. And I'm not sure why anyone would say something negative about Coach Gill after what he's been through this week and his effort to be here for the team.

Logic. I'll put this as simply as I can. Coaches want to win every game. Coaches prepare to win every game. Coaches realize they will not, except in RARE instances, win every game. They don't know which games they will lose, although there are a few that they can guess, but they know they'll drop a few. Some years they will drop more then others. This is the way it goes.
To use your examples. OSU fans certainly didnt have the same expectations last year that they have this year and their expectations next year will be greater than this year. Conversely, Boise State probably has lower expectations this year than they did last year. SEC fans are just crazy. Les Miles wins a National Championship and a lot of LSU fans wanted to see him fired. We had expectations to go to the Playoffs last year and are all disappointed. Tis year we expect to be competitive and we are.

When you say "produced", you're only talking about the announcers? Or do other things about the broadcast trouble you?

Folks, I waited to react and I'm still gonna hold back some. I just think emotional reactions are never correct, and i'm emotional.

Some quick hits:
-Crowd was great and LOUD
- Pat Kelly firing the crowd up and the crowds reaction was beyond epic
- Kevin Fogg is actually a genetically engineered super freak player - WOW
- Aldrekis looked like Aldrekis can and should look.
- Injuries and dings really hurt us. We will really miss Malcolm. I hope Nick and Francis are beck for MT
- Pat Kelly's second efforts and Leap were tough and great
- Yea, I didn't really like the 2 passes in the final drive either but it shouldn't have come down to that. RUN RUN RUN
- Hudson was DOWN IMHO, but it shouldn't have come down to that
- Everyone overreacted (including me) after Wake and many are reacting now.
-Season is by no means over and I believe we will see a different team at MT with a chance to win.
-The big south is still in reach and we have SBU at home.
- ON TO MT!

I wanted to vomit and still do. Injuries really starting to hurt now. Don't know if Hudson wasn't getting good protection or if he just had happy feet but he was a mess in the pocket.

Really expected a rushing TD on that last series and stood there in shock watching that pass hit the ground.

Bottom line- our offense didnt show up in the 3rd quarter (and most of the 4th) and they outplayed us.

Also didnt think Hudson's fumble was a fumble but the game shouldnt have come down to that.

Very frustrating game, but Norfolk State was the better team last night.

I enjoyed the game and thought the crowd was GREAT! I felt like we had a lot of momentum leading into the 2nd half and minus a few great plays, let the game slip through our fingers. I don't think Norfolk St was the better team,we made too many silly mistakes and they capitalized. We should have won, plain and simple.
