Official news for Mike, Chris, B.J., Dominique, and Brandon. Congrats. http://www.libertyflames.com/index.cfm? ... um=twitter
Five of Liberty's former football players will have the chance to showcase their talents at the professional level, with two signing free agent contracts and three others receiving mini camp invitations.

Wide receivers B.J. Hayes and Chris Summers have signed free agent contracts, while quarterback Mike Brown, tight end Dominique Jones and defensive back Brandon Robinson have been invited to NFL mini camps.

Summers peaked as a junior in 2010, catching 15 touchdowns on his way to winning the College Football Performance Award as the best wide receiver at the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) level.

Like most lanky receivers, his weaknesses are a lack of quick get-off at the line of scrimmage and a lack of suddenness in his breaks.

He does, though, have sure hands and a huge catch radius. His my-ball mentality comes from his basketball experience, including one year on the team at Liberty.

Yeah, it sounds like Chris has a legit shot to make the team.

Any word on MB? Is he playing WR or secondary?

He certainly lacked the 'my-ball' mentality last season :!:

Listed as a WR here: http://www.jaguars.com/team/roster.html
12 Brown, Mike WR 5-10 205 23 R Liberty
I posted this a while back: http://www.jaguars.com/news/article-Jag ... 1af35975c2
Brown, who passed for 6,072 yards at Liberty, played receiver his first two seasons at the school, catching 60 passes for 698 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore and 19 for 331 yards and one touchdown as a freshman. Still, two seasons had passed since he played receiver.

“The toughest thing was learning, then trying to go out and run the routes the way coach had explained them,” Brown said. “I went down there with a mindset of, ‘I don’t want to get sent home.’ I was going to come down there, leave it all on the table. I felt like I had something to prove.”

Latest news from Espn Chicago, Chris Summers has been waived in order to trim down the roster to 75 players by Monday at 4pm

Such a bummer, hope someone else picks him up. Maybe to fill an injury?

He certainly has a fan in his position coach. That couldn't hurt. I'm anxious to see how the other guys fare in the next week or so.

Final cuts of this round. They're at 75 and still have to get to 53 by August 31.

My prediction is that Mike gets cut on Friday and then signed onto the practice squad immediately afterward.

Summers has worked out for the Vikings who are looking for some WR depth ironically because of Jerome Simpson's suspension

Huh...a former Flame possibly getting a roster spot because of a former Chanticleer...imagine that?

Even more interesting that they're looking to trade Anthony Armstrong for Steve Slaton while keeping the 3 young RBs.

How many people thought Dominique Jones had a shot at making an NFL roster as the final cuts were being considered? His TD the other night certainly has helped his case.

9 cuts so far in Jacksonville and none of them is named Mike Brown. It really is starting to look like he's a lock for a practice squad spot at least.
