Bohl's Bison know all about a lack of respect. Their championship banner for winning last season's FCS title was mistakenly mailed to the University of North Dakota.
THATs just sad I never heard about this happening.

Most casual fans call it that anyway. NCAA can put all the money they want to in renaming it, no one is going to consider it "true" division 1 like folks do with the 1A/FBS schools. It's a lower level of D1, not D1. When the NCAA can't even send a championship banner to the right school, how do they expect the rest of the nation to think any higher of FCS/1AA?

Personally, I'm tired of Division 1 being separated like it is and think things would be a lot more fun if everyone was involved. I say unite FBS and FCS into one Division 1 and see what happens. The conferences would silently divide up into Majors and Mid Majors, just like basketball. The post season would be a 32 team tournament (24 conference champions, and the remaining 8 teams be at large - determined by a committee the likes of college basketball) during the first 3-4 weekends of December, breaking for the Holidays, then having the Final Four after Christmas and the NC game the first week of January. The existing bowls could exist as a NIT of sorts for the teams that don't qualify for the tournament and run during the same time period as the playoffs. This system would make the regular season intriguing because teams would be jockeying for position and fighting for conference titles to secure auto bids. This would completely eliminate the BCS and its faux playoff and put Division 1 back in the NCAA's hands completely. The amount of money this would generate would be mind blowing and the excitement from the fans perspective would be next to none.

Huh? If it's a lower level of D-I, than it's still D-1.

This is what baffles me. How can the NCAA allow the BCS (essentially a conglomerate of the highest of the schools at the FBS level) to control the most lucrative championship it awards? With the amount of money at stake, one would think the NCAA would be more assertive in taking control of it.

5 rounds of playoffs is way too long for college football, in my opinion. Heck, the NFL only has 4 rounds and one of those is the Wild Card round.

The reason I mentioned 32 is because Division 3 does that. I figure if they can do it, so can the big boys.

They only play 10 regular season games though.

Because the NCAA doesn't award a championship, there is no official NCAA Champion in 1A football.

isn't the FCS championship the "offical" NCAA champion?

The NCAA does not award a champion of 1A (FBS).

I understand that, my thought was just that if the National Title is awarded by the BCS in FBS football, wouldn't the FCS be the NCAA's national champion?
