Just got back about an hour ago.
My unbias thoughts as a Redskin fan:
RGIII has a ton of potential, could be a future HOF QB but don't expect immediate results and understand that he may bust. Obviously this description fits about every NFL rookie QB ever but it couldn't be more true for RGIII. My favorite thing is his ability to create plays. On several occasions, we had plays that I thought were dead and he just created something from nothing, finding ways to get first downs. This was huge throughout the game, I don't think people really understand his speed and creativity until they see him live. However, his biggest downside currently is his arm. He has a cannon but it isn't very accurate. Several times, we had one on one coverage or open receivers and he over through them. At least this isn't the Rex Grossman underthrow (he was fantastic tonight btw), or the who know's where it may end up Brunnel pass, it's still not very accurate. He also doesn't seem comfortable throwing those long passes, he's great with the 7-13 yard passes. With that said, I think that will improve over time. He doesn't look anything like VInce Young, Matt Leinhart, Tim Tebow, Tavaris Jackson or Jason Campbell. He's very smart, has a cannon, amazing speed and read defenses really well tonight. My only other negative came on a play when he scrambled for a first down but had a man open 20 yards down field. I'll take the first down any day, but I'd rather see him make the throw since he's a QB.
For Andrew Luck, he is actually very underrated. His ability to read a defense and make picture perfect throws is ridiculous. Numerous occasions saw plays where he just picked the defense apart, most of his incompletions were drops that should have been caught too. I think there were 3 or 4 of those. Really impressed with one play where he's being taken down by two defensive players and he delivers a bullit on the money to a TE. That was one of the drops but the ball was right in his hands. Also, I think Indy is already really close on this offense. Their receivers look really good and TY Hilton is going to be nasty. Need some help on the o-line but I really think they are set for the next decade, provided there are no injuries.
I feel confident that Luck is poised for a better carreer but it's very early with both of these guys. Indy has a better organization and I like the pieces that they're giving Luck. RGIII has a lot of potential but I think he needs to be molded into a more traditional QB that can also run. He seems to rely on his run too much and that could ultimately hurt him. He's smarter than Vick though and he has the ability to launch the ball unlike Vince Young.
The Colts have a very workable schedule this year and it wouldn't surprise me if Indy won 7 or 8 games. The Redskins, however, have a brutal schedule and I would be surprised if we won more than 6 games. I think that's okay though as we really need to draft a deep threat. The posession receivers seem to be taken care of but we don't really have anyone who is a threat for those big 20+ yard plays.
