They're both highly intellectual Calvinists who don't have the abrasive personality that someone like James White does so Liberty can't lie about them in front of the entire student body the way they did concerning the debate that was supposed to happen a few years back.
Here's what I don't get.. LU consistently these past 4 years have had all kinds of people speak at convocation. More than a few had beliefs that your standard Southern Baptist didn't have. Do you really think Liberty is afraid to have Piper or Keller speak at convocation because it might spark a Calvinistic revolution on campus? IIRC, John Piper was actually invited to speak last year at LU.
That would be a big step forward if he was. The closest thing to an actual Calvinist that I've seen is Driscoll, and that seemed more like the typical "grab them while they're in the news" move by Liberty. There also seemed to be a good bit of controversy surrounding that.
I'd love to see Liberty bring in people like Piper, Keller, Mohler (I don't remember him being a convo speaker), Matt Chandler, etc. MacArthur was a solid start, but it would be nice if a Reformed believer who isn't a Dispensationalist was brought in.
