Their AD, Jeff Bourne, said that a move to FBS was "likely" in 18-24 months and that was last September. JMU already has its stadium up to FBS standards and its attendance meets FBS minimums.

Just because a couple people here think they know more than they do, that doesn't change the facts of what certain schools are trying to do.

Well said NAJ! I completely agree!

I find it interesting that the only school shooting down the WAC-E move, by saying its a rumor is JSU. Of course barber mentioned he thought the Idea was dead when asked after hurds press conference came out. But their hasn't been any real "on the record statement sayings yes or no to the rumors except JSU"...hmmmmmmmmm

I guess that's because the WAC is still talking to them. Like Hurd said, he could get a call tomorrow (from 6 committed FCS schools) to push things into action. I know Liberty and JSU have their bags packed, but the others, who knows?

TRUE!! I still don't understand if the extension given to the Wac last through 2013 why they wouldn't give a chance at taking 3 or 4 schools as long as they could get the rest in 2014?!?

As far as the Jacksonville St. comments about not moving up, they're playing both Florida and Arkansas this year. I'm guessing 2 SEC teams in 1 season is more than just a gigantic money grab.

wow that was the worst reasoning I have ever seen...

FCS play 2 FBS teams all the time...and it IS all about the money.

CSU used most of that money for facility upgrades. If Jacksonville State scheduled two FBS teams to help their move up, they're in worse financial shape than we thought...

And don't knock it since we have been hearing this humor from the annistonstar article about JSU's coach talking about WAC-E. This is gaining more legs.
Hot rumor is that Jacksonville St., Liberty, Delaware, JMU, App. St. and GA Southern could join the WAC in 2014. Keywords: could, rumor.
I will believe it when I see it!!!!

I heard LIB was going into the CUSA (when LTU, ODU, UTSA, and UNCC joined) which did not happen, MAC rumors, Sun Belt rumors, WAC choosing new teams on August 18th rumors, the rumor above from Seattle University, and the WAC probably not talking anymore about new teams until January.

All I know is that LIB should have been in the FBS before Texas State, UT Arlington, ODU, UTSA, UNCC!!!! UNCC is bring back football this year!!!! I know they had a football program in the past when UNCC was established, but COME ON MAN!!!!

Well, I guess another way to look at it would be that if their eyes are set on FBS (or they know more than we do) then who cares about the FCS season/playoffs? Make as much money as you can to help your cause. You can never have enough cash in college football!

Anybody know the buyout fee in the OVC? Maybe the extra FBS game is to pay that?

Or it could be to pay for a new cafeteria.

Even more bad news for the WAC ...
Idaho Statesman wrote:Boise State set to join Big West, president says

Boise State is set to join the Big West for most non-football sports, Boise State President Bob Kustra told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday.

"No doubt as far as I'm concerned — (from) everything I've heard, every e-mail I've read, every conversation I've had," Kustra said.

The only hold-up is a formal vote of the Big West presidents.

The WAC already knew Boise St. was leaving. I guess this bit of news makes it about 95 percent true.

If the WAC could invite some FCS schools for 2013, it would truly help them out. If the Big South, OVC, Southland, and Southern conferences could come up with a gentleman's agreement where Liberty, JSU, Lamar and App St. can still play their conference mates in football for 2013, that could ease the scheduling curve for the departing schools. I really don't see the harm. The teams that make the FCS-to-FBS transition play a half-and-half schedule anyways. Why not?

Bye Bye WAC football
Idaho football will be back in the Big Sky where they belong before too long. I just can't see this whole WAC east thing coming to fruition, too complicated and too many variables. I think our best shot at FBS is the Sun Belt (Not likely), C-USA (long shot), or the creation of a new league in the WAC's absense.

You have to think if the WAC had a good contingency plan in the works that Idaho would've stayed. I think everyone can just about pull the plug on the WAC-East.

Honestly speaking, Idaho leaving is not the end of the world. The same can be said about Boise St. Who in here was looking forward to going to Boise and Moscow? If anything Idaho and Boise leaving may encourage Delaware, JMU, and 'Nova to join sooner than later. :P

If the WAC had a plan for this whole eastern expansion and there was actual viable interest then why would Idaho make this move? If there was a viable contingency plan then Idaho would've stayed pat, kept all their sports in the WAC, and re-join WAC football in 2014.

I mean, come on! The WAC has ONE football team right now. And how many schools do they have altogether now? Three? What's more likely? They expand? Or they just become an Olympics sports conference? Or they don't exist in two or three years?

Unless there could be a WAC football that would be an entirely separate entity from the rest of the WAC sports and become an eastern football conference... Essentially it'd be like the WAC selling an FBS football conference to the East Coast. Uh, what am I saying, WAC football is dead.
