Don't get me wrong. I personally love Grand Canyon University. As a matter of fact, I am looking at their online DBA doctoral program. However, Grand Canyon's "for-profit" title is going to kick them in the behind in this game to conference realignment. Can school presidents see beyond their for-profit title? That remains to be seen.

Honestly speaking, the ONLY way GCU becomes a member of the WAC or any other FBS conference is if they can start a football team and play their home games at the University of Phoenix Stadium. They have to funds to make it happen.

KK has spun this as he knew it was not a long term thing with SBU and that may very well be, but he needs to get off his arse and find some new members. You have to figure Coastal would jump at a SoCon invite, and until LU can make the jump to FBS we are stuck in the big south. If we lose the auto bid, i wonder if Gill would stick it out and want to stay. Recruits will not want to come here with next to zero chance of making the playoffs. If im the other big south schools, im on KK hard to get new members ASAP.

I don't think this is as much of a given any more since the announcement of the basketball tournament being at the HTC Center. It's all a money game and the amount of money Coastal can earn from the tournament, sponsors, etc. likely could outweigh any fiscal move to the SoCon. Also, if your Coastal your end goal is to go to NCAA postseason play and where is that easier? Big South or SoCon?

Add in we will need to schedule 1 more OOC game (2 more if CCU leaves which is when we would lose the auto-bid). Look how hard it is now to get 5 D1 OOC opponents, it would be impossible to get 6 or 7.

If you only need 6 teams for the Auto Bid we are GOLDEN. With SB gone we should have free reign in the BSC. Which means multiple trips to the playoffs. Which means we could be the Boise State of FCS!

I will withhold my feelings on PH's raging sarcasm and simply state that I hope that if we are in this conference for at least the foreseeable future that we see a little infusion of new blood from folks like Stetson and Mercer and even West Georgia (who apparently is looking into moving up to D1) and even North Alabama

Who said I was being sarcastic? We should dominate the Big South. We should win the Auto Bid to the Playoffs. Heck, if we do it long enough we will have what people call a "winning tradition"! Finally, it would put action behind the years of big talk about how we are too good for the Big South.

If the CAA offered us a spot in all sports and we didn't take it, I'd be sad about that because I think it would've really helped men's basketball recruiting.

However, if the CAA offered a football only spot, I can understand LU turning that down and trying to win the big south while waiting on the fbs invite in the future. It would seem like a hassel to move football alone when it may move again in a couple years.
