If you want to talk ASUN smack or ramble ad nauseum about your favorite pro or major college teams, this is the place to let it rip.

Keep in mind that it isn't a life sentence, it's just a way for us to become an FBS member. We can move later if we need to.

As fans this would be a great opportunity for us to travel with our team and play in meaningful games. Watching Flames Sports Network while LU plays Utah State?

You mean watching FSN while LU plays NMST, Idaho, Appy St., Jax St., Lamar, NDSU, Montana and Montana State.

Maybe the August 18th thing is both the WAC announcement and HD cameras to add to the excitement! What about OHIO and Marshall someone mentioned in past comments that they wanted to move. I thought GA southern was an Absolute no on going FBS yet ?

I think a better PR move would be for all these FCS teams to Announce the Move Sept 1st after we play FBS schools. Especially if a couple of us upset some teams :)

If the 18th event/item (who said announcement?) is HD, I'll eat my hat. It's just not worth an event or big announcement to talk about HD. It's something that when it happens will just happen or have a small write-up. imho

I would agree. I think if this were JB or Jerry Jr. giving the announcement...everyone would know what's going on. York giving the announcement doesn't really mean anything and keeps speculation limited to an extent.

Um, UVA is playing @UTSA in 2014...that wouldn't have happened if UTSA were staying FCS. Texas State is hosting Texas Tech this year and Nevada. FIU is hosting Lousiville this year and Texas A&M next year, along with Pitt and Louisville again in 2014. Florida Atlantic is hosting Miami in 2015. WKU is hosting Navy in 2013 and has a neutral site game with Kentucky. UMass is hosting Indiana this year, Vandy next year, and Boston College and Colorado in 2014.

+1

My preferences:
#1 - FBS - whenever, wherever, whatever
#2 - CAA - great rivalries, football, exposure
#3 - Southern
#4 - Remain BSC if no other opportunity presents itself

Scott Bilo ‏@BiloFootball: Not enough schools available for football in 2013. Not happening that soon. Not 6 schools available, which are needed.
Goes along with WAC-E. Only 3-4 schools immediately ready

August 18.....23 days away!!

If I recall correctly, weren't most of the conference realignment announcements done rather quickly, like a few days after it all was made known. I remember most of the time reading about it, then the school announced some major event to publicly showcase the move which occured only a few short days later. Even with all the interview threads, videos, tweets etc...this just seems so far out!

I don't know, I want to move up as much as the next guy but putting this out for something 3 weeks from now, seems a bit crazy to me.

My head hurts...!!!! :stretcher

Here is my problem with Sweatypits' analysis on this. Where is the proof of validity in this statement? Look at how difficult it is to wrangle an invite in the first place. When we jump we need to be prepared to be there for a long time.

Some bullet points from Bilo from WAC media day and WAC Commissioner:
• Is it feasible to sustain conference without football, or as FBS member?
• Gone east coast to west coast looking at options.
• Football is not there for 2013. Could be back for 2014 or 2015.
• Need 6 more feasible FBS programs for football, and decision would need to be made before June 1st
• Holding off because options that they think are there may not be in position to make a move now.
• No invitations have been issued to any schools at this time.
• WAC and Big Sky have had several conversations about a WAC/Big Sky merger, but it has lost steam in recent weeks.
• Discussion was not about a merger, but a concept of sharing for auto qualification expansion in NCAA Tournament in basketball.
• Priotirty is to make it to tomorrow. Football is still a priority, but not realistic in 2013.
• FBS, 8 teams is a requirement, but the WAC is in a 2 year waiver period for that rule.
• 2013 is also a waiver period year.
• Have to sustain yourself as a league before worrying about cost as far as travel expenses involved.
• Got a call from a commish of another league about taking on an entire conference for football only. (CAA??)

Being prepared to be there for a long time is different than declining an invitation to the conference.

San Antonio
Austin-San Antonio midpoint on I-35
Miami
Boca Raton (Ft. Lauderdale suburbs/40 miles from Miami)
Navy plays anyone, anywhere and the other is neutral site.
Boston

Those things are all extremely different from Lynchburg, VA. 5 large markets and one team who is playing a military school and a neutral site game. None of that points to a team playing Liberty in Lynchburg just because of an FBS move (unless conference schedules require it). Boise St still had to travel to every major game they had to play until they got into a better conference and Boise is 2.5x bigger than Lynchburg.

Teams are willing to travel to recent FBS upstarts/lower conference teams to get their name/brand seen in a large market without paying for the advertising. Lynchburg doesn't offer that.

Liberty would get some better opponents to come in as I'm sure a Sun Belt or MAC type of school would come to play while we're in the WAC-E. We could also likely get some of those CAA/SoCon teams, but the major schools aren't coming to Lynchburg unless there's much more of a reason than just FBS status. The biggest benefit of moving up is going to be the expanded opportunity to play OOC road games against major programs and continue building the football program's reputation.
