nobody on the team locked up #11 Anthony Atkinson. He scored 25, had 9 assists and 4 steals and he played 40 minutes

one play or a series of plays do accumulate that statement. Although Rell Porter played good defednse overall

Atkinson quickness made everyone on our squad look slow. He definately could be playing for many division 1 schools, and obviously wouldn't miss a beat. I think I remember reading somewhere Blair was contemplating a D2 school. I think many of you are overracting to the loss to Barton. You have to look at the team we played and how we played the game, not the level of competition they play. Barton was fundamental and played hard to win the game. Dunton coached experimentally and obviously won't be subbing 5 guys in and out like he did in this game. Even though you always want to win, I don't think this game is any indication of where we're at.

I don't know about others, but I'm not looking at the loss part of this. I'm looking at the fact that we didn't play defense or rebound the entire game. I'm looking at the fact that we missed layups and were out physicalled (is that a word?) the entire night. That's what bothers me.

thanks for posting things that have already been said....

The statement was about someone commenting on #11.
There team was better than us. It doesn't make our team bad. I think our team has an abundance of talent, but cannot be taught how to play at the d1 level.

You are right we did get out worked. But again, this is a game Barton targetted and obviously wanted to win. They brought intensity and we were out hustled. Their coach was jawing all night at the refs and his players. You could see he wanted it, Dunton on the other hand was rather calm and wanted to see his team execute plays and wanted to see different lineups in the game. This EXHIBITION game does not change my outlook on the season much. We saw some positives and we know we need to bring intensity and step up when the games actually matter.

So the fact that it was exhibition means they are allowed to be outworked, outcoached, outplayed, and have less desire to win then a D2 school??? Dunton was jawing too, just not anything that worked

Exactly. This should've been played with the intensity of a real game. Personnel things will get worked out, but they should've had at least some intensity in this game. It took an alley-oop for them to realize they were actually playing a basketball game.

And you thought you had your fill covering the TEXANS last year. Wait until Feb when things really heat up.

I'm sure Barton was set-up for a big letdown after the emotions they spent while beathing "The LOO." (LU phonetically)

So Barton lost to W & M by 10 and ODU by 30 points but beat us by 6. Not a good sign that is for sure.

I really don't think you can draw transative conclusions like that from an exhibition game. Good luck with that though.

It's pre-season. There was not even tape available for Liberty to do a decent scouting report. WM and Mary did not want to share their tape. Scouting is a huge part of preparation. That is not an excuse for not beating Barton. Quite frankly they don't need an excuse. It was an evaluation time plain and simple.

I don't believe you. ODU and W&M would beat us by 36 and 16, respectively. No more no less. Anyone who disagrees is a liar.

We lost an exhibition game.

The season is over. Let's cancel the remaining games.

Once again, maybe I should put it in caps so that the people that think Dunton is a saint can read it, MY COMMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN ABOUT THE LOSS. MY COMMENTS HAVE BEEN ABOUT THE COMPLETE LACK OF HUSTLE, LACK OF DEFENSE, LACK OF INTENSITY, LACK OF REBOUNDING, AND LACK OF PRETTY MUCH ANY GOOD BASKETBALL. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT WE LOST BUT ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE PLAYED LIKE COMPLETE AND UTTER HORSE CRAP.

SJ, I will have to disagree with you about the overall play. Blair was exceptional. McLean is gonna help this team a lot. Tyler Baker will have to get minutes as a Frosh because he is gonna be great (I heard that somewhere). Justin Holland and BJ seem like they can take care of the ball under pressure and will be able to run the team until Brew get's eligible. BJ may have an advantage but Holland looks much better after an injury plagued freshman year. Defense was horrible but having coached with RD, played for RD, and covered the Flames the past 4 years, I can say that Liberty is gonna play good defense. They will clean up those areas that need to be cleaned up. They were a decent defensive team last year in an aweful season. I was encouraged by the amount of guys that look capable of getting quality shots outside of just waiting for Larry to create something. Our transition offense will blow some people away. The way McLean and others run the floor. I don't think we played that badly but again, there is lots of work to be done but this is a process that doesn't happen over night. Microwave/crockpot etc.

I agree that a few players played really well. The overall team did not though. A few players can play great and still not have a team play great.

The question is, did 8 players play well? Because I hope we don't need to go deeper than that.
