If we sue on our own we will become radioactive to potential conferences. However if we become part of a Conference, new used whatever, and then the CONFERENCE turns around and sues then it wouldn't affect us as much

JB not at the Sasser Cup award last night. Could he be meeting with WAC officials? Meeting with Bill Carr? Both?

The 2013 WAC could easily look something like this.

CSU Bakersfield***
Seattle*
Idaho
Boise State*
Utah Valley University*
Denver*
New Mexico State
Lamar
Jacksonville State
Liberty
Youngstown State**
Villanova **

* Non-football member
** Football only member
** Basketball affiliate member
Great article. It mentions Lamar very heavily. Let's hope that's true. That would bring us to 7. Just need one more.

An interesting thought from another poster at another board:
The thing is- I think for Idaho and NMSU- the group move up has to happen this year- for their schedule in 2013.

It is possible that the NCAA has extended the deadline for these schools until say June 15 in light of the WAC meetings on June 11/12.

I think it's obvious we're in discussions with the WAC. Just calm down and wait people.

I get excited about us moving up. Patience is for not for the young.

Which is why you see your people getting in trouble for doing young and impetuous things

Here's an update from Tobi Writes of Bleacher Report. It sounds like he kind of regrets writing this article. Which is too bad, I kind of liked it myself.
UPDATE: It looks like just another friday.

I found this interview with Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear from the 22nd that I had missed while writing this article. Spear says the following:

“The presidents have been meeting and trying to determine a strategy for the future. I think the first question that needs to be asked is, ‘Is the WAC going to try to be a football conference, or are they going to rebuild as a basketball conference?’ I don't think that decision has been made.”

“Well, I think we're still trying to determine what our future is going to be as a conference, and what we want to be, before we even get into looking at FCS schools to invite.”

That is of 10 days ago. I wish I had seen it before I bothered writing this one. The potential impact of today's date seems pretty irrelevant if the WAC membership doesn't know if they want to be an FBS conference anymore.

It seems very unlikely that the WAC would be able to pull off any of this in 10 days.

It sounds like there is a struggle for control of the direction of the WAC. One wonders if the basketball schools are awaiting the departure of Idaho.
In the world of conference realignment, you never show your hand. All presidents play dumb to keep their competitors guessing. On the other hand, we are talking about the same conference that expanded with a basketball school (Seattle) instead of increasing its football membership (with Lamar).

The WAC could indeed survive as a basketball conference, but when was the last time you remembered a WAC team setting a standard on the hardwood? We just have to wait until after the WAC meetings to see whether they will be a basketball conference or a football conference with eastern FCS schools included. Given the comments made by Benson (saying we were going to look into WAC membership), JFJ (saying we were talking with other schools with FBS aspirations), and Barber (saying that Liberty is national in scope), I will continue to remain optimistic.

I saw this and thought it was pretty cool to see non-Liberty fans defend our school's commitment to athletics.

THSpanger - I also saw that you mentioned on the board we're expanding our stadium by 11,000 seats for the 2013 football season. I've been busy recently and haven't had time to keep up with everything, so I may be a little bit behind. However, where did you see that? The last I heard, we were just considering expanding the student side and adding boxes.

I "think" I read a quote from JFJR two weeks ago saying that "most likely" construction will begin at the end of this season ..that will take the stadium to 30 plus. It's 19 now, right?

That is correct. I would love to find that quote though.

I think 11,000 is high. I think the last expansion was 7,200 (12,000 to 19,200), and I think Stage 2 is closer to 6000-6,500 more seats than your 11,000 figure. I was in the room when the Chancellor gave the exact number, and I don't think it was anywhere near 11,000.

Wasn't Stage 3 closer to 30,000 than 60,000?
