If the CAA does offer Liberty a chance to join, what should Liberty do...join, knowing that the exit fee to go FBS in the future may be higher...or wait it out in the Big South?

I would think LU would make the move as well...But people have referred to the CAA as a sinking ship...but I still think it would be a step up, even if it wasn't to the FBS level.

It very well may be...but it still might have a part of it above water for as long as we need it to. The ship we're currently on is laying on the bottom.

Well played.

Here's another:

We're with the girl that we know we're better than but we can't leave her because we don't want to be alone. The first chance that we find out that another girl is interested, we're bailing on our current girl. Is the new one what we ultimately want? Probably not. Oh well. YOLO, right?

To continue with HMO's/Super's analogy, the Big South is the ugly girl; the CAA is the Honors student with the good grades and high SATS that we hope turns into Carlene (FBS):

It might be a sinking ship right now but bringing the only other Big South programs that are worth saving with us: Coastal and Stony Brook, would breath some new life.

This biggest answer on my mind here is the stated goal of the Admin to go FBS. Do we punt during this cycle is it looks like no FBS invite is coming, or do we wait it out for a few years? Do we go to the CAA at the possible cost of a jump to where we really want to be?

I tell you what... If the CAA is a sinking ship, I would compare it to the Titanic. I would rather be on the Titanic than the S.S. Minnow (Big South). :P

We have to move if we aren't offered a FBS spot. Five-to-six years of a CAA resume looks better than 20 years in the Big South, IMO.

My thoughts exactly!. I mentioned in another post that the CAA would improve our "athletic resume" tremendously.

Yea, the CAA may be a bit of a sinking ship, but the hole can be patched. The big south is going to die a slow painful death. Rather that the SS Minnow, I was thinking about Jack Sparrows sinking Dingy in the First Pirates movie.

Again the question is how long to we hold out for the FBS invite in this round. If the CAA starts looking it will be soon, and will we be ready to punt or wait?

To me it seems like we are going to be left out of the movement up to FBS this year...it looks like it would be a good time to refocus the efforts into courting the CAA while she's still looking. I do think five years in the CAA would help us. Especially if the CAA takes Coastal.

If offered, we should accept a move to the CAA, but if we get invited to an FBS conference, pull a TCU and switch before a game is even played.

I think this was addressed in the press conference. I thought I rememberd Jerry Jr. saying that until they find a FBS home, that we plan to remain in the Big South.

Not sure the CAA will court us, knowing that we're only short-timers.

Isnt that the beauty of exit penalties? Make that penalty high enough they might want you to leave!

Yeager is just as bad as KK. actually... can't believe i'm about to say this... He may be worse. Big south will end up adding a few teams in the next 5 years if we leave with coastal and stony brook. Mercer will be one and I would put money on KSU as well. North Alabama if they do decide to get out of DII.
I would be willing to bet that IF yeager asks us to join he will make sure we are at least committed for an extended period of time. IF we don't get an offer from mac/wac/sb whatever I think we'd be fine in the CAA. HOWEVER, I hate the thought of us not moving up after that press conference. JB has something to prove and all eyes are on him and Jerry Jr. right now. I have no doubt with what has been done so far as far as facilities and money that JFJR is doing a fantastic job. While he hasn't hit a Home run yet(we'll see with TGill) with coaches this is JB's time to quiet all the haters. if this fails I think there are some questions that need to be asked. I'm on the fence. I tend to be an optimist but I don't see a major conference invite soon. Which will give the JB haters more ammo. and Honestly might take some of the fence sitters over to the dark side. I had a conversation with a well known JB hater the other day and surprisingly it was very hard to defend what JB has done especially with coach hirings and "winning the big game" Money and Facilities generally are JFJR's job as president and chancellor. How much has JB doing as a part of all the building and fundraising? i don't know. and I'm going to withhold judgement and trust that things will get done. Just some food for thought.

It's tough to say in LU's situation, but I don't think Barber has much to do with a conference or subdivision change. At most schools this is 100% the university president's call with whatever public board he has to convince. Obviously ours has nothing to do with this so Jr steps into those shoes. I'm sure Barber is advising as he knows a ton more than Jr about where we want to be, but when it comes to meetings and negotiations, a president is not going to want to be sitting across the table from our AD. This is all my conjecture.

I don't see how "not winning the big game" is Barber's fault. If it wasn't for him, would we even be in the "big" game?
