I don't think so -- plus by doing it in phases, we may be able to avoid interest in loans, etc... but that depends on how much we're paying out of pocket for these increases.

It could be:

Level 1: Concessions
Level 2: Offices
Level 3: Suites

Barber had mentioned having a really nice banquet room on that side for the school and community to use.

I hope that that the Jeffersonian portico around the bowl end of the stadium isn't dropped. When I drive by UVA, I think it is a very nice, impressive, unique looking stadium for an unimportant football team. :football

Don't forget that up until you got a new sheriff in town you were struggling for newfound relevance yourself

I really like it as well. But does it make it seem that we are copying UVA?

You do know that the newer architecture around Liberty is "Jeffersonian," (named after the former president and founder of UVA), which is found all around UVA? So yes, we are trying to copy UVA. :D

yea, im not a fan of us using UVA as a architecture archetype (holy alliteration batman!). I would love to see us more establish our own identity in that regard. now Im not suggesting we build like Oral Roberts and make everything postmodern and ugly, but something other than brick and columns or a dome that looks like a mosque would be interesting. personally i find art deco fascinating, and i think it would have blended well with the utilitarian style we see at campus north and other places around campus. it also seems just as academic.

also what on earth were they thinking when they built the vines center? its ugly, and not in a excusable way like the circle. it also looks nothing like the rest of campus.

I completely disagree. As an undergrad student, nothing on campus was Jeffersonian. TRBC (the old one), was, of course. Jeffersonian makes sense for many reasons. 1) we are in Virginia, 2) we are near Poplar Forest, 3) it ties the school to the church (TRBC) thematically, 4) it gives us a more distinguished ambiance to the campus, and perhaps most importantly 5) it ties our name (Liberty) to our American Heritage, and important element to our school's existence.

The Vine's center wasn't ugly in its day, and NOTHING on campus looked like anything else on campus when it was built (a slight over exaggeration, but only slight :D ). But you are right, it doesn't fit now. Which brings me back to the Jeffersonian Portico… The Vines Center needs a Jeffersonian Makeover too. If it were done right, it would look awesome.

i mean we've committed to the jeffersonian thing now, and my point is, buildings should not change from ugly to attractive with the passing of time. i guess thats the good thing of jefferson's neo classicalism. its pretty timeless.

It is my understanding that these are from BEFORE some of the other changes to the campus plans. Hopefully something like this does get done. I also hope they put up real brick, and don't paint the cinder blocks. :D (things seem to be going in the right direction, so I am hopeful).

Yes I do. I am on Liberty's campus at least 6 or 7 times a year since my daughter is a student there. And I like the look of the Jeffersonian style, which fits well in Virginia. I was talking specifically about the portico. Since that is an identifiable part of UVA's stadium, it gives the appearance of "wanna be's". At least in my opinion it does.

I don't think portico is the right word. Those have roofs. Pergola is the word we're looking for.

I want to pick on everybody for the lack of content in the forum but I'm as dry as everyone else. The buzzards are circling - beware of big biting bucolic black birds.

I don't think UVA is known for football, so I think we'd be OK.

lol -- back in the day, you could tell which buildings were built at the same time by what they looked like. It was actually kinda interesting -- you could trace the development of the school by architecture.
