So I just graduated 4 days ago, and started my new job 2 days ago. Turns out the company that I worked for (for 2.5 days) does unethical sales practices. They basically lie and deceive the potential buyer to grab their attention and make the sale. I started realizing this after day 1 on the job, and today confirmed it. The manager that was training everyone at my job said, "Basically you'll need to fib a little bit to get around the secretary".... so 50 minutes later I resigned from the company. That work goes against my integrity and character completely, so I could not stick it out. Here's the catch. I'm supposed to be getting married in 2 months and 12 days. Now I'm without a job. I'm a Sport Management with a lot of experience. Please let me know if you all know of any solid - honest - jobs that you could refer me to. Thanks. PM me for my e-mail correspondence.

Sly, wasn't sure if I should put this in the Chapel or not, so I put it here. Switch it over it need be.

Wow, man. Sorry to hear that. Good for you for standing up for what is right. Integrity like that is hard to come by these days. Praying that you find something bigger and better.

the problem is good luck finding a job at a company that doesn't have some level of dishonesty somewhere. sales people are the worst but it runs through most business if we are talking about "fibbing" a little. sales guys, reporting to superiors, he said she said, its all over the place.

one of my responsibilities as a senior sales guy in our company is training our bdr reps (glorified cold callers) on how to properly do their job. i have a guy who is 60 years old who loves it but man, he will go into some of the most ridiculous calls.

"oh man, i love the broncos! can you believe they got manning!!?"

"oh man i love the jets! can you believe they got tebow!?"

on phone with sec he knows is a bull dog

"hey is bob there? (he's never spoken to bob before) yeah i left my jacket in the server room, i just need him to drop it off" *secretary passes him through*

stuff like that. he doesn't care, he's too old school straight cold call sales to understand non manipulative selling. but i reign him in pretty good. every once in a while i have to pull him aside but hes doing better.

are there companies that exist where its absent? absolutely. good luck in finding them.

I will definately pray for you. I worked at Nationwide in Lynchburg for about 5 1/2 years...they let you be pretty honest even in the call center.

Believe me when I say it's much much deeper than that. It's a sketch company as a whole all the way around. Not just their sales techniques.

understood. i struggled with my first job out of college. regional sales for a architectual hardware supplier. basically bidding to GC's. in order to get business you had to work backdoor deals and do all this other shady crap. because of this and other circumstances, i didn't last long even though i excelled at it while keeping some semblence of integrity.

Thanks ATrain.

I just don't want people to think that I simply stepped away because of a couple white lies. I'm not incompetent and realize that this is a ridiculous thing to do from someone's standpoint who just sees these posts. I'm not stupid, I know what's at stake here, so understand it's been a very difficult past two days.

Not sure what kind of pay you're looking for, but Enterprise (car rental) is hiring in this area, and they always hire new grads. May be worth checking out.

Wow. Now I want to know what company lol.
You have learned, or will soon learn, a great adage 'it's easier to get a job when you have a job." next time, look for a job while holding the one you want to get rid of.
On a positive note Enterprise inst abad place to get your feet wet.

yeah look for a fed job. 2 years as a GS 6/7 making crap, 2 more years makign a bit more than crap. you basically have to not be a total screw up for 5 years and work your way to GS10 and now you are pulling 80k+, have fantastic health benefits and after 30 years pull down a ridiculous retirement and are set.

AND for those 30 years you basically have to just not totally suck at your job in order to keep it. basically show up.

i remember giving buddies a hard time for taking a crap gs6 job out of college, within 5 years they were making bank. oops.

don't get a state gvt job though. those suck.

3rd this. Great company that teaches great sales and service techniques.

Are you staying in Lynchburg? Or are you looking to move? Have you done an internship yet?

I think you did the right thing, and God will honor it. That doesn't mean that everything will be smooth sailing in the meantime. Praying for you and your soon-to-be family.

I wanted to follow up with what's going on with my situation. I followed the advice of several folks on here and applied for a Manager Trainee position within Enterprise. I interviewed and got the job offer the next day. Thank you all so much, God has truly blessed me with a great opportunity. I've already been able to tell that this is a great company to work for. Thank you all for your support/help/prayers!

Great opportunity for sure. Great training that will either lead to a great career with them (several of my friends have) or to other mgt positions.

Glad everything worked out for you.

Agreed. Seeing God bless you for doing what is right should embolden you in similar situations in the future. We are all a very small piece in a HUGE puzzle; we serve His will. Remember what He has done for you, and stick by Him like He does you.

Congrats!

So I am back on the job trail again. Things with Enterprise didn't work out. I was with the company for 8 months, was promoted twice, and was #1 in sales in the state of VA for the last two months I was there (Dec & Jan - was #1 midway through Feb too). I am now without a job and really could use some help. If anyway has any openings, connections, thoughts or anything else that could be helpful please let know. Things are pretty rough right now as my wife has had health issues since Sept and we are really living pretty tight. If you have been in a similar situation please send me a PM cause I could really use some advice/encouragement. If you have any leads or openings also PM me - I'm looking for sales, marketing and management type jobs. Anything dealing with sports is a plus. Thanks everyone.

In Him,
Nick Pretty
