"People of different faiths, like yours and mine..". Great line! Whoever wrote this speech deserves a raise.

I thought it was a very solid speech. No mentions of the president, some mentions of the economy but he kept everything largely focused on the graduates, and other than the line that Purple referenced, nothing about Mormonism.

I only got through half of it before getting annoyed. I am still not angry at LU for inviting him but politician seem to just always annoy me. It was all very political. You don't have to bring up the presidency specifically to make it political.

You were just cranky you had to get up early to be in line by 630 am! It was somewhat political early but I thought the content about faith, family and service was awesome.
But, and as a big Romney fan, they could have ended it after the Chick-FIL-A guy and been successful!
Plus I loved JLFJR busting on his kid for slacking!

whoa whoa, I was watching from the comfort of my couch! No way I would go up to Lynchburg just for graduation! I didn't even go to MY graduation.

I enjoyed Mr Chic-Fil-A. By far the highlight! haha

Mark DeMoss must have read some of my comments.

I thought it was pretty good, and I was very pleased with that line. There were some moments that I felt Romney would have been better to avoid religious themes. I have a transcript of his address, and I may pick it apart later. Again, I was fairly pleased with the address.

I think it is sad that the one man, one woman statement got a standing ovation over some of the other things he talked about. Not because I am for gay marriage, but because I am sick of this non-issue being such a real issue a lot of Christians focus too much time on.

I should just avoid this thread because I probably am going to annoy everyone.

Side note...It was good to see Patrick Andrews finally graduate. Great guy.

Mark DeMoss was definitely reading....ha, but I'm not sure he wrote Mitts speech. DeMoss comments sounded to pleading and a tinge desperate. Sort of like 'Please, like this guy". But I thought Mitts speech was great. It talked a lot about where we agree on day to day issues and how Faith is important in leading good lives.

What choice did he have? It's an issue now. Now he doesnt have to adress it anymore because that line will be played over and over again. He has to take every opportunity to contrast himself with the President

I do! :D have you seen his hair!!
And again why would you be suprised that an audience of Evangelicals would give a standing ovation at that line? Thats like being suprised in a GLAAD audience giving a standing ovation if Obama said the opposite.

This is how politics work. This is the dumbest issue on the campaign and least meaningful, but will be used as the line in the sand because people are too stupid to see otherwise. Economy, debt and jobs. should be the only big issues, but they will hardly be discussed. But hopefully it will be put to rest, but I am willing to bet a nickle it wont.

That is awesome to hear Patrick graduated. :D

yeah it is always some meaningless issue that seems to be the focus of most campaigns because its easy but honestly it is what to expect. You have a guy like Louis Palau talking about the way Christ can change your life and it gets a polite hand clap but then Mitt Romney says one man, one woman for life and it gets a standing ovation. It just seems our priorities are a bit backwards.

I don't dislike Mitt and it is pretty much what I expected out of him. I am just getting sick of gay marriage being the center of everything.

Oh well...

I thought @KenTremendous (writer on Parks & Recreation and formerly of FireJoeMorgan.com) summed it up nicely with his Tweet the other day: I was having a nice day and then two gay people I've never met said some words to each other in a courthouse and now everything's ruined.

I was a freshman with him in 1994. I think he was on the other end of my hall. I was very happy to see him graduate too. :)

So what are we talking about here? We're talking about what, gary marriage? Some political stance you don't care about? Somebody don't agree with your stance, some girl that graduated and so forth, let's talk about something important.

1. Liberty University trending nationwide on twitter
2. 7 Media trucks in the FOC parking lot broadcasting the speech nationwide
3. Liberty University front and center on every major news network in the country
4. Those news outlets relaying that we are the world's largest Christian university
5. FBS ready announcement in front of 34,000+ and said media

Any other questions?

Today was a home run in every possible way. Every single possible way this was a home run day.

Some thoughts -

1. Jerry Jr. and Mark DeMoss, well done!!! You pulled it off, and we're now reaping the benefits
2. Jerry was right on when he quoted his father - We aren't electing a church leader or a pastor, we're electing our commander and chief and the leader of our country - put religion aside and VOTE
for someone with a like-minded world view
3. Romney was right on by saying hey, we may disagree on theological issues, but we have the same goals for this country and we need to unite around that
4. Net worth on stage was 4 billion plus. Truett Cathy and Williams are heavy hitters. Now that Cathy has an honorary doctorate, do you think we'll eventually see a big windfall? Our leaders are smart!!!

Overall -

Was a fantastic day, and I do not think it could have gone any better. Romney was perfect - not too political but just enough. Jerry and Mark's speeches were fantastic. A great day in our history, perhaps one of the greatest when you consider everything and the significance of it all. The kids on facebook don't get it...Would we be all over the news if XYZ religious leader were speaking?

I think the speech went well. I hope if Romney gets elected we have somekind of deal for an executive order allowing LU to become a 1A independent if we don't get accepted into a conference this year. :)

Jerry Jr. could just say...Hey, you know where I meantioned Liberty going 1a...if we dont get accepted in a conference we may need your help with that.

A great day to be at LIberty. Mitt did a great job and I feel made great strides with the ultra conservatives. It is indeed true we are not electing a pastor to be our next president, but if Mitt is elected he is definitely a leader with high morals and values. Also very cool to see Truett Cathy on stage as well! Just a great day!

nice surprise to come home tonight and be able to view the commencement address, apparently unedited- on CSPAN.

thought Romney did a good job- had never really listened to him at length before.

also noted that no other BSOUTH schools commencements were aired on national tv tonight.

There were quite a few pictures of Patrick when we were going through shots from graduation yesterday. I think he got the loudest ovation of the ceremony outside of the comment Romney made that postie was talking about
